You need money to make money.
If you're just getting by, then you'll either have to cut back on your spending and/or find a way to increase your income.
Once you're able to save some money each month, then you can start to think about how to make that money work for you through investments.
Create a budget and track your expenses to see where your money is going. Once you do that, then you can try to see where you can reduce your spending.

I think there's an important distinction between being in control of your investments and feeling the need to constantly intervene.

You can manage your own money without turning every market movement into a decision.

In fact, one of the advantages of having a clear investment process is knowing when you don't need to do anything.

Before worrying about whether a professional should manage your portfolio, I'd ask whether you can clearly explain what you own, why you own it, how much risk you're taking and under what circumstances you'd actually make a change.

If you can answer those questions, you may not need someone making investment decisions for you.

If you can't, the answer isn't necessarily to hand everything over. It may be to simplify the portfolio, improve your understanding or seek professional advice on the specific areas where you need help.

And I'd be careful about interpreting "I haven't lost anything yet" as evidence that the current approach is working.

A rising portfolio doesn't automatically validate the decisions behind it.

The goal isn't to control every outcome. It's to build a process you understand well enough that you don't feel compelled to react to every price movement.

Invest in widely diversified index funds/ETFs, NOT stocks, with dividends on a no trading fee platform that offers fractional share purchases set to DRIP in tax shelter accounts.

Contribute if at all possible a minimum of 20% of your net pay cheque every month, pay yourself first from every pay cheque.

Think long term!

First, you're not too old to start. And you don't need a lot of money to begin investing. The important thing is to start with a plan rather than looking for a way to make money quickly.

I'd start with three things:

1) Build a small emergency fund. Even a few hundred dollars set aside can help stop an unexpected bill from turning into debt.

2) Invest consistently. Once you have some savings and high-interest debt under control, even $25–50 a month can be a start.

3) Keep it simple. Learn about low-cost, diversified index funds rather than trying to pick individual stocks or chase the next big thing. Investing is a long-term process, and returns aren't guaranteed.

Also, don't feel you need to invest every spare dollar. If money is tight, improving your cash flow and building financial stability comes first. You want investing to make your life less stressful, not add more pressure.

I wrote No Clue? No Problem! A Beginner's Guide to Saving and Investing for people starting from scratch. It explains the basics in plain English, without assuming you already know the terminology: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FGQMRTSM

I would invest almost the entire amount. I would only invest 20-30K on fixed income assets, 20-30k on gold and silver and the rest of the money in top large cap index fund of the country. While market is overshot right now, so I would invest a little and wait for sometime to invest the remainder. As with rising yield rates the market is sure to fall sooner than later. I would have patience and keep the money till I get an opportunity to invest in liquid investments from which I can exit anytime. I would keep the entire money invested for 10-15 years and will only exit from them in case of emergency. I am 25yo so I have more risk threshold and longer investment horizon

Buy as many ITM puts against the QQQ and SPY that I could afford. Sell once SPY drops 40% and QQQ drops 70%, profits go to physical gold for a 8-10 year hold while the US inflates the debt away. Sell gold, have sex with two chicks at the same time, and retire.

No. Number one rule of Wall Street. Nobody… I don’t care if you’re Warren Buffett or if you’re Jimmy Buffett. Nobody knows if a stock is gonna go up, down, sideways, or in fucking circles. Least of all stockbrokers
