Most cops get annoyed because drivers won't cooperate or have proper documentation..this cop got annoyed because a driver was too cooperative with too much documentation

Dude got his car from Dubai to the USA, he probably knows what he is talking about. How often do police run into that scenario where the cop would be an expert on international DMV laws.
35
u/Ancient-Task5926 4d ago
The problem is not that he isn't an expert , the problem is that he cannot admit that he doesn't know.

u/raichulolz 3d ago
It's an incredible showcase of low-intelligence, it's insane how defensive that cop was. There's nothing wrong with admitting that you came across something that doesn't happen often and there's nothing wrong with hearing a person out.

its a very stong litmus test from upbringning I think. Like people who where raised that your dumb for not knowing really changes them. They will hem and haw and do ANYTHING but ask someone. cause asking someone is when it turns in to them being a dumb ass for not knowing.
In this case he was just an asshole to a foreigner. that is "acceptable" to his peers and the people arouind him, there is no shame to him from people he cares about in this action. letting them see HIM as being week or ignorant is abolsutly never acceptable and super shamefull.

The problem is that when they don't know the laws and want to arbitrarily try to enforce something they don't know about they have qualified immunity. They suffer zero consequences for being ignorant.

Most don’t know laws outside of their own state on this level. Is exceptionally rare situation they don’t waste time educating officers on it
I went to college with lots of international students. One of my best friend me was for Ireland and his car was registered there. Since he was a student he didn’t have to register it in the state and long as he has valid insurance in the U.S. he’s ok to drive it.
He got pulled over and the cop had no clue on the law, however unlike this dick he called his supervisor and took the time to inform himself told my friend thanks for letting him know and marked it in their system so if he got pulled again the officer would know

This right here.
My department educates us on international driver's licenses and what countries the United States has reciprocity with and things of that nature because we run into it all the time. Very diverse community.

They aren't even well versed in domestic laws. They just need a handful of vague and general reasons in the US to pull shit and fall back pn qualified immunity if their "hunch" was incorrect.
The most basic one being to attempt to arrest someone and any hostile action is shoved into "resisting arrest".

Not that I agree with everything that DailyDrivenExotics does there’s a fucking wild video of him interacting with a cop in California that insists to drive in California you need a California DL and a Canadian one isn’t acceptable. Like not even a valid license from any US state. A California DL.

u/Spare-Plan-2169 4d ago
Honestly this, I rarely see Mexican cars, and I live an hour or so from the border. I'd imagine some cops will start asking a few questions about a car with Dubai license plates because they don't know better. Because, well why would they you can go 25 years in law enforcement and not deal with such things and if it's not something they taught you are the academy or they taught it to you, but it was 20-plus years ago, you wouldn't remember it
SO yea the cop should have been a little humble

12
u/ArgoDeezNauts 4d ago
Exactly. The cop was ignorant of the law. There's nothing wrong with that. I am ignorant of most things. There is a whole lot more that I don't know than there is that I know. Ignorance is not a lack of intelligence, it's just a lack of information. Intelligence in this context is the willingness to learn new information. It's entering any situation with the notion that my preconceptions might be wrong. Not only might I encounter new information, I seek it out.

Guy who could afford to ship a car over to the US from the UAE just for a holiday is probably not the best person to try and mess with, as law enforcement. The whole "No you just work for a car import business" is wishful thinking before the realisation sets in that the guy he's talking to, his brother in law/cousin, he has a 90% share of all the sports stadiums in the state.

I have to imagine it’s part of training or a common “trick” they use to give conflicting instructions so they can escalate any mundane scenario to their favor.
For example that one cop years back that told someone to crawl towards them on their hands and knees with their hands up (or something equally impossible) before murdering them.

He said he was going to give the the law that states I was wrong. Came back to truck with a “warning”, handed me a post it note with a law code on it and said he had to go.
Looked up his code and it was a seat belt law. Ftp

OR if you got fat thumbs or cant remember how to spell Google, you can grab that radio do-hicky on your shoulder and just ASK. they literally have to have a resource capable of looking up any + all laws & regulations a cop might come across. This is definitely something that they can look up. Then when he finds out, he can go back to the car he pulled over & wont have to play a guessing game of "is this legal or illegal" cuz he WILL KNOW. But why waiste all that time when u can look likeva power tripping imbecile RIGHT NOW!!! LMMFAO!!!

They are trained to be aggressive and 'take control' of situations, that is why the guy is talking like that. Typical law enforcement interactions, tbh. That's the real reason why compliance is so important. I’m gonna get downvoted but I would’ve already picked up early on how slow the cop was and just not try to educate him on something he likely doesn’t care about, and to just provide the paperwork he claims to want. Wording like “I know you’re confused” instead of “I know it might sound confusing” or “I don’t know why you’re being so defensive” is unnecessary and prolongs this interaction. Just give him what he asks for and shut the fuck up.

The problem is that the cop kept asking for an explanation but then as soon as the guy tried to explain it, he would just talk over him because the cop is an asshole see that's the actual problem. The problem is that the cop is an asshole.
You take this exact same conversation into almost any other situation and you know what happens? The person confused learns about something new. But when it's a cop they're too about swinging their big asshole dick around and around and making sure that everyone knows they have the biggest dick in the area. And often all that ego swallows up all the oxygen in the conversation and nothing else matters as a result.
2
u/evolzarlaggia 3d ago
Yeah that’s what I’m saying, the fact that the cop is talking over the other guy shows he’s not really intent on learning anything new. That’s not a characteristic exclusive to cops, but assholes in general. I would’ve picked up on that early on and just provided the documentation to get him off my back and carry on with my day. I’m not trying to be his friend and I likely will never see him again, so what’s the point? Some things, and people, just aren’t worth your time and energy to explain more than you have to. This cop is one of them.

I actually saw the shift in his attitude from being positive to getting irritated. And that's when I realized that he rightfully didn't want the trooper to mistake his kindness for an excuse to escalate the situation. I know that that seems as if he was the one about to escalate things but the reality is that when we irritate people we don't get to choose their response to our irritation. Plus we don't know in reality who this guy is. Obviously rich. But in all actuality may be a very high ranking person in his country and ours. Not saying he is but very possible as we are a capitalistic society by rule. For all we know this guy although not a citizen has enough power to have the trooper at a desk job for awhile. This is just the reality of our society. You just never really know who a person is . I could be wrong but the trooper probably didn't actually have another call. He in my opinion ( not claiming fact) was told by his supervisor to leave the man alone due to some kind of diplomatic status, or realized he had no win with this guy and chose to not escalate. But point is that we don't get to choose how people respond to our irritation. He was clearly starting to get irritated thats all

So. I drive trucks. Commercially. One of my work trucks is a smaller, under 26,000 GVWR flatbed. The kind you can drive with a regular license. A cop pulls me over in the middle of making a delivery to a regular customer. He tells me I messed up bad because the road I took is rated only for 15,000 pounds. Even makes me get out of my truck to the frame documentation to confirm that my truck is 26,000 (which... That isn't how that works). He takes my information. Goes back to his car to run it. Comes back and tells me not to do it again.
The road signage lists it as "No vehicles over 15 tons" not 15,000 pounds.
