Other Suggestions for higher education after 12th Grade.

• Upvotes

So I’m a student in class XII studying in a cbse school in Kuwait. My qualifications course is Computer Math; I have researched about colleges in India and outside, and I’m really clueless and stressed. I’m worried that getting a job elsewhere might be difficult if I study in India.
I’m really clueless on what to do, and I would really appreciate some advice and help because i can’t figure this out. I’m really stressed about my future. What exam do I prepare for, and what do i do? I have zero clue and I’m really stumped by all this.

Humanities/SocialScience Need advice regarding a couple of career choices.

• Upvotes

My_qualifications: Ba Hons in History, MA in English from Delhi University and currently pursuing an MSc in Development at LSE. With a year of experience in the rural development and health sector.

I’m extremely sorry if I sound extremely entitled or out of touch, but I’m genuinely seeking advice with regard to what would a rewarding career path be.

I wanted to do my second Master’s and PhD from India itself, however this MSc is only one year, figured it would save me time and give me international exposure as well. Additionally, opted for this degree given the state of Indian Academia, especially in the social sciences is pretty uncertain and the stipend in abysmal. I do realise it isn’t that much better in the West but there are still some funding options (though extremely competitive) and talking to research scholars in India about their PhD experience has been disappointing to say the least.
Also, (not sure of how true this is) I’ve heard that a PhD acquired from universities abroad holds more value as compared to the Indian one. However, I’ve always wanted to stay in India and wouldn’t have even considered going abroad, but this seemed like a good opportunity.

Now there are three situations that I have to consider, which are as follows:

A Preparation for Civil Services.

This degree is all I ever wanted and now that I’m here I’ve realised that this isn’t for me, the program is extremely good and so is the faculty. However, I really want to live in India. I’m not extremely ambitious and I’d much prefer living with my parents in my hometown as I prefer the slow lifestyle and the convenience it offers. I’m from Punjab and I’ve been thinking how the state civil services exam could sort all of my problems.

The problem with this is; the exam is extremely competitive, is conducted after years, and requires dedicated 1-2 years of prep. I’m 24 and provided that the notifications come after an average of four years, I would barely sit for four attempts. This seems like a gamble and without a backup it’s foolish to step
into this.

B Working with NGOs, Research Organisations.

The job market is pretty bad as is and I’m aware that my degree is not the most employable. I am also aware of my limitations and that I’ll have to acquire quant based skills. I did not move with the intentions of immigration and needles to say, for degrees in social sciences– countries would give preference to their home students and I’m honestly not exceptional that I’d cut to working with the UN directly, as that’s just the fact of things.
So my best bet is perhaps to look for NGOs in India or for some Research Assistant positions.

For this I’m assuming one would require to at least have cleared the NET exam and would also be extremely competitive. For the NGOs– it’s not really my cup of tea; as everything boils down to corporate jargon and no real work, plus the pay is abysmal.

C PhD (Either in India or Abroad)

This is what I’ve always wanted to do. My topic is an intersection of Social Anthropology, Ethnography, Ethnomusicology, Gender, Folk and Post Colonial Theories. I want to explore ‘Third Spaces’ and Agency in Punjab through a study of select communities. The reason I opted for the Master’s was an entry point into the global academic sphere. But now given that I’m not liking my experience here I’m not really sure what steps do I take next. Should I prepare for NET and sit for it next December post completing my degree and aim for doing it in India or should I try giving it a fair shot here? I’m more than okay to move to other countries too, maybe I’d like it better elsewhere.

Kindly suggest what the best possible choice could be.

Thank You.

TLDR; Confused between pursuing state civil services, a PhD abroad or in India.

Career Choosing between MA psychology or anthropology

Myquals = ba (history, eco) distance

I am interested in pursuing both psychology and anthropology can i do that as I haven't done my bachelor's in the similar discipline. If i pursue a master's degree distance/online would it be legit as ive heard about some new rci rulings. i need distance as already doing bachelor's in other domain but my adhd brain still wants to study them both or atleast one What online/distance unis are valid abroad if i ever get a chance? Which one of them isn't related to any corporate jobs?

MBA_Entrance_Exams CAT Preparation: Do long coaching formula handbooks actually translate to Quant retention under timed pressure, or is active recall (flashcards + trap analysis) better?

my_qualifications: Preparing for CAT / MBA entrance exams.

While reviewing Quantitative Ability and DILR for CAT, I have noticed a major bottleneck that seems common across most coaching material (TIME/CL/IMS): we are handed 150–200 page comprehensive formula compendiums, but passively reading through them does not seem to prevent freezing or falling into common trap options during timed 40-minute sectionals.

To test whether active recall works better for competitive aptitude exams, I've been structuring a revision workflow around ~500 Quant/LRDI concepts, shortcuts, and common question traps with the following mechanics:

  1. Card structure: Every item has the core formula, a 1-line worked example, and a highlighted "Trap" warning showing the standard trick question-setters use to bait incorrect answers.
  2. Active triage (Known vs. Shaky): Categorizing formulas dynamically so only weak areas resurface, rather than repeatedly reviewing known concepts.
  3. Randomized cross-topic shuffle: Pulling concepts out of order to simulate actual exam conditions, rather than following predictable chapter order.
  4. Spatial 2D board overview: Grouping related concepts on a single visual plane rather than scrolling through continuous vertical text.

For those who have scored 99+ percentile in QA/DILR or cleared CAT/XAT:

  • Did you rely mostly on standard institute handbooks, self-made error logs, or active testing/flashcards to retain formulas and shortcuts?
  • Does having explicit "trap alerts" alongside formulas actually help during mock triage, or does true application only come from solving full-length problems?
  • Would a dedicated active-recall flashcard system provide real utility over standard notebooks, or is it solving a non-issue?

Career M.Tech vs MBA after B.Tech CSE, or work first? Need genuine advice

I'm currently in my 3rd year of B.Tech CSE in India. I'm interested in AI/ML, cybersecurity, and technology, but I'm also open to management if it offers better long-term career opportunities.

With AI changing the industry, competitive entry-level hiring, and layoffs, I'm unsure whether to pursue higher studies immediately or gain work experience first.

My qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing B.Tech in CSE.
  • Interested in AI/ML, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies.
  • Considering GATE for M.Tech or CAT for MBA.

I'm considering three paths:

  1. M.Tech from a reputed IIT/IISc/NIT.
  2. MBA from a top IIM or another reputed B-school.
  3. Work for 1–2 years, gain experience, and then decide.

I don't want to join just any private college for the sake of another degree.

I'd appreciate advice from people who've experienced these paths firsthand. Which would you choose today, considering long-term growth, employability, salary, and AI's impact on the job market? Is work experience before higher studies worth it, and which path offers better opportunities in the long run?

Looking for honest, practical advice based on real experiences rather than just package comparisons. Thanks!

Mathematics Thinking of switching into commerce from PCM .

my_qualifications - 91.2 % in class 10 board examinations (ICSE). Currently a 12th grader.

I belong to a tier 2 city and attended a local school with no exposure or career guidance.

My school was only affiliated with PCM and PCB . No humanities or commerce.

I wanted to change my school after 10th . I was good at mathematics so I thought of choosing PCM . I took PCM because my parents wanted me to and I considered it as the safest option among all streams. I did not want to make a mistake that I'd regret in the future. So PCM it was.

I joined a private CBSE school . We've attendence arrangements , so I don't go to school much . Just for practicals , important events , half yearlies , unit tests and finals.

I joined coaching in 11th for JEE but left it in 12th because it wasn't helping at all . I developed a bad relationship with my studies . Teachers didn't help. The environment was toxic and exhausting for me . My scores kept dropping.

Started preparing for jee online in 12th while being at home all the time . I joined a library in July for 4 hours . Stopped studying for jee by September end.

I've backlogs . Procrastination issues . Interest issues . But no other distractions like friends , social media , etc.

I think I don't like physics and chemistry but maths. And I feel I'd have done better in commerce , economics , management or statistics. But I barely know anything about these subjects and the scope in career. So I think I'll give CUET UG too.

I really don't know what to do. I've like 90 days left for jee mains first attempt. ( Please read TLDR)

TLDR : Jee aspirant in class 12. I Don't think PCM suits me and whether I want to pursue B.Tech . I like maths so I'm thinking of pursuing B.com( hons)/BSc Stat/math/B.A (hons) economics/BMS from a good college in DU. Please guide me.

Law Final-year BBA student here. Is doing a 3-year LLB after graduation a good option?

Hi, I'm 21F and currently in my final year of BBA. I've been thinking about pursuing a 3-year LLB after graduation, preferably from DU, but I'm quite confused about whether it's the right choice for me.

I'm interested in exploring corporate law, in-house legal roles, compliance, or anything that combines business and law. However, I'm not sure if I'm genuinely interested in law or if I'm considering it because I haven't figured out what else to do.

My academic profile isn't particularly strong, and I haven't made the most of my college years in terms of grades, extracurriculars, or work experience. I'm also not considering an MBA right now because I don't feel ready for one, and I'd like to explore other options before committing to another degree.

What I'm looking for

I want a career with good earning potential, reasonable work-life balance, and opportunities to become financially independent. I'm willing to work hard, but I want to understand the reality of a career before investing another three years in studying for it.

I have relatives in the legal profession, and while some have encouraged me to think carefully before choosing law, others' experiences have left me unsure about the career.

My questions

  1. Is pursuing a 3-year LLB after BBA a good option, particularly if I'm interested in corporate law?

  2. How difficult is it to get decent corporate legal or in-house roles after a 3-year LLB from DU, especially without exceptional grades or strong connections?

  3. What are the salaries and work-life balance actually like in the early years?

  4. Is it possible to work abroad eventually with an Indian law degree?

  5. How do you think AI will affect legal careers in the long term?

  6. What other career options should I explore with a BBA before deciding on law?

I'd especially appreciate advice from lawyers, law students, or people working in corporate legal roles. If you've pursued a 3-year LLB after a different undergraduate degree, I'd love to hear about your experience.

I'm trying to make an informed decision rather than choosing another degree without knowing what I'm getting into. Honest advice, including the downsides, would be really helpful.

AdmissionProcedure/Fees/CollegeAdmin Hot take: Indian degrees don’t teach the practical skills freshers need. What skill do you wish college made you practise?

Hot take: a lot of science and engineering graduates in India can pass exams on a subject but can’t do basic work in it. That means designing a small experiment, cleaning messy data, writing a clear report or explaining a result to someone outside the field.

I don’t think that’s the students’ fault. Assessment rewards recall, so recall is what gets practised. Applied science skills are assumed to come later, on the job, and then companies complain that freshers aren’t ready. One lab session a semester or a single soft-skills workshop before placements doesn’t change that. These are skills that need regular, repeated practice, the same way problem-solving does.

Which practical skill do you wish your college had made you practise every week, and how did you end up learning it: an internship, YouTube, your first job, or never?

Research Professors/Instructors: Has anyone completely dropped traditional lectures? I tried it and got a 100% pass rate, but I'm curious about your experiences.

I've been experimenting with replacing traditional lecture hours in Higher Education and one of the most recent one was use of "Flipped Class Model" and Game-based-approach.

While engagement went up, students accomplished good marks, I am finding some friction regarding its widespread adoption by other practitioners'/faculty members.

For those of you who have tried similar models by reducing the pure lectures: what kind of pushback did you face from administration or students, and how did you handle it? Would love to hear what works.

My qualifications: I have been a visiting professor and taught many subjects like ERP, Analytics and Project Management. I also have been actively teaching the faculty through Faculty Development Programs on use of game-based approach.

LifeSciences/Biotech How should I navigate translational R&D / Project Scientist roles vs PhD paths with 2+ YOE in BSL-3 and antiviral screening? (MSc Clinical Virology)

my_qualifications:

  • M.Sc. Clinical Virology (Manipal Academy of Higher Education)
  • B.Sc. Biochemistry, Genetics, and Microbiology (Bangalore University)
  • 2+ Years of Research Experience as a Research Associate in translational drug discovery and antiviral evaluation (Bengaluru).
  • Co-authored publications evaluating repurposed and novel small-molecule inhibitors against viral pathogens.

Hello everyone,

I have spent the last two years working as a Research Associate in preclinical drug discovery, focusing on in vitro antiviral pipelines and live-pathogen handling in high-containment setups. I am at a transition point and evaluating next steps across academic project positions (Project Associate II / Project Scientist I), translational research institutes, and industry R&D.

Core Bench Competencies:

  • High-Containment (BSL-2 & BSL-3): Hands-on operational experience handling pathogenic respiratory viruses (coronaviruses, influenza), vector-borne models, and neurotropic strains (Rabies virus CVS-11). Strict adherence to containment SOPs, biosafety compliance, and waste disposal.
  • In Vitro Antiviral Assays: Phenotypic screening of small molecules/NCEs, plaque assays, TCID50 titrations, viral replicon platforms, and cytotoxicity/viability assays (MTT, luminescence).
  • Molecular Biology & Cell Culture: Maintaining primary/continuous mammalian cell cultures, generating viral stocks, RT-qPCR, nucleic acid extraction, and ELISA.

What I'm Seeking Guidance On:

  1. Academic/Institutional Project Positions: For institutes like NCBS, inStem, JNCASR, IISc, THSTI, and ICMR-NIV—how common is it to secure funded Project Associate / Project Scientist roles requiring high-containment or antiviral screening expertise without having cleared CSIR-NET JRF? Do PIs actively recruit based on prior bench experience via cold emailing with a targeted CV?
  2. Industry R&D vs Academic Centers: For those working in Indian biopharma/CROs (e.g., Syngene, Anthem Biosciences, Biocon, Bharat Biotech) or translational foundations: what is the long-term trajectory for wet-lab virologists holding an M.Sc. + publications versus immediately pursuing a PhD?
  3. Leads & Networking: If your lab, consortium, or startup is actively seeking researchers experienced in live-pathogen handling, replicon systems, or antiviral screening, I would appreciate connecting via DM.

Any perspectives from PIs, current project staff, or industry scientists would be invaluable. Thanks!

AdmissionProcedure/Fees/CollegeAdmin Regarding completing masters degree in Math, one year was completed, second remained at Delhi Univ.

Hey everyone,
My current qualifications nclude a 3yr Bsc Honours in maths from delhi university, done in 2020, and then i enrolled in MSc straight away in DU itself, but becuase of some really personal financial/family issues in covid, i could only do one year - from 2020 to 21, and then i had to start working ... I mean i got a good job as a financial analyst and that's fine i guess, becuase my marks and skills were somewhat ok i feel, but still i feel like a phd could make sense or such for which i need whole masters degree.

but bcz standard "span period" was 4 years , so now what could i do to complete it....I mean i just feel too lazy now to give entrance like CUET or such, and then start from complete scratch- is there like a way to get somehow 1st year recognized and give 2nd year exams and assesssments etc...
it could be in DU itself, it could be elsewhere...

Kindly suggest.
With Love & Regards ❤️

Career Title: I'm in Class 12 with PCMB and confused about my career after losing interest in JEE/NEET

Body:

Hey everyone!

I'm currently in Class 12 with PCMB, and I'm really confused about my career and what I should do after boards.

Initially, I was preparing for JEE/NEET, but Physics has always been a huge struggle for me. I find it extremely difficult to understand the concepts and solve Physics numericals. No matter how hard I try, I struggle with the subject.

Over time, this started affecting my interest in preparing for competitive exams, and now I've lost interest in JEE/NEET. I don't think I want to continue down that path anymore.

Now I'm in Class 12, and I have no idea what career I should choose after school. I'm looking for a course that offers good career opportunities and decent placement prospects after graduation.

My budget is also limited, so I can't afford to spend a huge amount on college fees.

I'm feeling really lost because I don't want to choose the wrong career path and regret it later.

To those who have been in a similar situation, what would you suggest? Which career options should I explore after Class 12 with PCMB if I'm no longer interested in JEE/NEET?

I'd really appreciate some genuine advice because I honestly don't know what to do next.

Thank you! ❤️ My qualifications: Currently studying in Class 12 with PCMB (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology).

PhD Is it a realistic idea to pursue phd in liberal arts with my background?

I had been doing an independent research in the field of art and documenting a dying art form. I am in process of publishing the work I have compiled in form of a book, hopefully by next year it might be published if everything works out as expected. So right now I am on a career break after being laid off, however I had been researching (doing field interviews, primary research etc before leaving my job) for a while now.
I had been thinking of doing Phd (in process of researching institutes, eligibility, I do have a few research topics in my mind.). But I am concerned if my background (non liberal art degree) will be an issue.

I am aiming for a direct Phd. I am not sure if it is a far-fetched idea or if I am being delusional.

My qualifications: B.Tech , 5+ Years of experience in MNC (IT).

I've seen quite a few accepted people already in the ICPC internship by PPGF (October Cohort)
And here i am still wondering whether i got accepted or not. Submitted the round 3 presentation on 4th October.

I have 2 questions:
- To the people who got accepted
Did you get any further information regarding the process?

- To the people who got rejected (after round 3) (ques to people who applied earlier as well)
Did you receive a mail stating that your application is rejected?

After many days you got the mail? (In both cases)

Political Science A simple breakdown of how the Constitution, CAA, NRC, and NPR actually connect

Hi everyone,

There is often a lot of confusion around how India's citizenship laws fit together. Here is a short, neutral summary breaking down the legal framework step-by-step:

1. Constitutional Baseline (Articles 5–11)

Defines who was a citizen at the commencement of the Republic in 1950 and gives Parliament authority over future citizenship legislation.

2. The Citizenship Act, 1955

The core statutory law regulating citizenship acquisition (birth, descent, registration, naturalization, incorporation) and termination post-1950.

3. NPR & NRC

The National Population Register (NPR) collects usual residents' demographic data. Under the 2003 Rules, NPR serves as the preliminary base to verify citizenship for the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

4. Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019

Amends the 1955 Act to fast-track citizenship for specific persecuted minority communities from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Pakistan who entered India before Dec 31, 2014.

my_qualifications: Author of The Citizenship Question (Amazon eBook breaking down Indian citizenship law and constitutional principles for students and general readers).

Full disclosure: I am the author of The Citizenship Question, an eBook written to explain Indian citizenship laws in simple, jargon-free language for students and general readers.

It's available on Amazon (Free on Kindle Unlimited / ₹199).

JEE/BITSAT/EnggEntranceExams I made a 100% Free Physics Formula App for Class 11 & 12 Board Exams / JEE / NEET (No Paywalls or Signups)

Hey everyone,
To give you some context on my background: I cleared JEE in the top 1 percentile and completed my Computer Science Engineering from a Tier-1 college

Class 11 and 12 Physics can get incredibly overwhelming with the sheer number of derivations and formulas we need to remember for school exams, boards, and entrances.

To make revisions faster, I built an Android app called Physics Formulas IIT JEE & NEET.

Why it's useful for CBSE and JEE students:

  • Covers all major chapters: Mechanics, Electrostatics, Optics, Magnetism, Modern Physics, etc.
  • Perfect for a quick 10-minute glance right before a school unit test or board practical/viva.
  • Clean, lightweight, and works fast when you just need to look up an equation for a numerical.

Full Disclosure: The app is completely free with no locked chapters or premium tiers. It does contain standard banner ads at the bottom to help me cover basic costs, but they don't block your screen or disturb your reading.

I'm a solo developer, so if you find it helpful for your studies, please drop a download and leave a review. Let me know if there are any specific features you want me to add next!

App link:- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.study.physicsformulas&pcampaignid=web_share

Career Title: 2nd-year BCA student, confused about my future and feeling lost. Could really use some guidance

Hey everyone,

My qualifications: I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA), in my second year, and have just started my 4th semester. I'm studying in Bengaluru, India.

Lately, I've been worrying a lot about my career and future because, honestly, I have no clear idea about what I want to do after graduation.😭😭

Sometimes I start overthinking everything — my career, my family's responsibilities, my future, and whether I'll be able to build a good life for myself. There are times when the anxiety gets so overwhelming that I feel like I'm having panic attacks. I constantly feel stressed, lonely, and low on energy.

I'm willing to work hard. I understand that building a good career takes time, effort, and consistency. I'm ready to put in the work, but the biggest problem is that I don't have proper guidance or anyone to show me the right direction.

I see people learning new skills, building projects, getting internships, and planning their careers, while I feel like I'm still trying to figure out where to even begin. It makes me worry that I'm falling behind.

I don't expect anyone to magically solve my problems. I just want to learn from people who have gone through a similar phase in their lives.

If you've ever felt lost, confused, or anxious about your future during college, how did you get out of that phase?

- What did you do during your second year to build a good career?

- If you're from a BCA or similar background, what skills or career paths would you recommend exploring?

- How did you find the right guidance, mentors, or people who helped you move forward?

- What would you do differently if you could go back to your second year?

I'm genuinely looking for advice from people who have been in a similar situation. If anyone is willing to guide me or share their experience, I'd be really grateful.

I want to take responsibility for my future and make things better for myself and my family. I just need some direction to help me take the first step.

Thanks for reading.
