NOTICE Updates to rules - Company Managed Devices

Just to draw to folks attention, I've updated the rules for the subreddit to specifically include a provision for asking for assistance with company managed / owned devices.

In short this isn't something we are / will / can / should be providing support for on Reddit and there's been a recent increase in posts trying to bypass security controls or installing software on devices which are owned by organisations / companies.

The stance at this time is if you are needing assistance with a device which is owned and/or managed by a company or organisation, you should consult that companies IT Team.

Please do continue to report any such posts that are breaking this or any of the other rules.

Thank you!

Storytime New Service Desk Web Application (Updated Link)

Hello I posted this message in another subreddit for IT helpdesk and im thankful for the responses and interest people are showing here on reddit. I've been on twitter/X posting forever and almost no traction/interest at all which sucks; here on reddit at least people respond and support other builders and techies. I received a notification suggesting I post here as well, I clicked the link and here I am so I'll post here as well.

Any way I've been having fun building and using this tool. Its a servicedesk Webapp that you can plug your voice enabled agent like Grok or Claude and talk to it. Below is the original post, May everybody's wildest tech dreams come true.

I've been building an AI enabled helpdesk web app for the past few months, includes ticketing, knowledgebase, CMDB, collaboration tools and much more. I created a free workspace for reddit users to test drive the app any feedback is appreciated.

Open | Hardware Unusual Marks on iPad? What Could Have Caused This?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’ve noticed these weird marks on my iPad for a bit now. I assume it’s purely cosmetic, as I do have a screen protector on it that I can replace and hopefully it removes these marks with it.

But I’ve never seen this before and genuinely have no idea what could’ve caused it? I’m used to scratches from using my Apple pencil for extended periods, hair, finger prints, etc.

Any ideas how this might’ve happened so I can prevent it from happening again? Thank you!

I'm having an issue where my emails look totally fine before I send them, but when I look at them on my phone or another device they look super weird with mismatched text sizes. Presumably it's because I copied and pasted some of it or started the email on one device and finished on another. It's super annoying and looks so unprofessional! Is there a setting I'm missing or something?

Open Webcam has green tint

Hello gents,

I've got a problem with my webcam, as you can see in the photos, my lenovo laptop has this problem were in low light has a green tint and green bars, and if you look closely the top part of the webcam doesn't have that green tint at all. I've tried already uninstalling the driver, restarting my laptop, updating graphics driver. If I have plenty of light in the room the tint is barely visible with the naked eye and there are no bars. Any thoughts on what might cause this problem?

Many thanks!

Open How to Remove an Unavailable Administrator Account and Regain Administrative Access on My Laptop

I am currently using a Windows laptop with a standard user account, while another person has administrator privileges but is unwilling to share it or help me with administrative tasks.

Because I am a standard user, I am unable to install certain software, download and configure essential development tools, or make necessary changes to my laptop without administrator permission. This is creating difficulties with my studies and practical work, especially when I need to prepare for upcoming examinations and complete assignments on time.

I want to find a legitimate way to resolve this issue so that I can manage my own laptop independently. I would like to understand whether it is possible to obtain administrator privileges for my account, remove the existing administrator account if appropriate, or regain administrative control through an official Windows recovery method.

My requirements:

  1. My current Windows account is a standard user account.
  2. I do not have access to another administrator who is willing to help.
  3. I need a solution that I can perform myself, preferably without losing my personal files.
  4. I do not have administrator privileges to install software or perform system-level changes.

Please explain the available options step by step, prioritising methods that preserve my files and do not require access to the existing administrator account.

Open Acer SPIN Touchpad Not Working So I Deleted The Driver

Thumbnail

I have an Acer SPIN laptop. Usually when the touchpad isn't working, I hit the F7 button and it comes back on. I also double-check to see if I have the laptop on airplane mode, because I've been known to somehow turn that on.

This is what has happened so far:

  • Latest Windows update installed
  • Was told by Dr Google to uninstall the touchpad driver
  • Went to acer website and downloaded the touchpad driver
  • Could NOT re-install the touchpad driver or if it did install, I don't see it in the Device Manager under the Human Interface Devices menu (which is where it was when I deleted it)
  • There was a message on the acer website that said, "Before installing the Touchpad driver, please install the Serial I/O driver first." So I did that and installed it, but don't know where to look for it

I don't know if this helps, but I've attached images of the laptop I'm using and the names of the drivers from the acer website. I installed the Synaptics driver because I recognize the name. Should I install both? Where would they appear?

Please help me fix the mess I've got into! Thank you!

Resolved Fix error 0x0000011b when connecting to a shared USB printer on WindowsProblem

printer is connected by USB to PC1 and shared on the network. When PC2 tries to add it (for example), Windows shows “Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation failed with error 0x0000011b.” Print jobs may also get stuck in the queue.

Fix

  1. On PC1 (the PC with the USB printer), press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  2. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print
  3. Right-click an empty area on the right and choose New → DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  4. Name it exactly: RpcAuthnLevelPrivacyEnabled
  5. Double-click it, set Value data to 0, keep Base on Hexadecimal, and click OK.
  6. Restart the Print Spooler (services.msc → Print Spooler → Restart), or restart PC1.
  7. On PC2, press Win + R, type \\192.168.x.x (use PC1’s real IP), double-click the printer, and print a test page.
  8. Tip

Connect PC2 directly to the PC that has the USB printer (PC1). Don’t connect through a third PC or a server that re-shares the same printer, because that extra step can cause the error to come back.

Open | Hardware Very Strange Keyboard Issue

Hey guys! So a client contacted me stating that her keyboard letters are mixed up. I thought she must've accidentally changed her keyboard to British or something in settings but she sent me a photo and the actual keys are literally QWFRKY and are all over the show.

I helped her set the Lenovo laptop up around 6 months ago and I'm certain it was fine then. She is a bit elderly but I'm sure she hasn't messed with the keys.

Is her laptop possessed? 😁😬 Are QWFRKY keyboard layouts even a thing? Anyone know what the heck is going on here?!
