Discussion Playing quidditch at school is basically a guarantee to be a pro so where do teams get players?

There’s 7 players on a team so there’s 28 players total in the “farm league”. There’s an actual League so where are they getting this players from? My impression is that there’s more than 4 teams in the pro league so anyone that plays at howgarts is basically guaranteed a starting spot. And I’m assuming pro leagues have 2-3 people on the bench. There’s already very few witchs/wizards so we’re are they getting these players from? On top on that Irish are known to be the top national team aside from Bulgaria but we only meet like 2 Irish wizards and neither of them are on the quidditch team.

Question How do current Hogwarts students deal with ticket barriers at Kings Cross?

This wouldn't have been an issue in Harry's day, but nowadays you can't get onto the platforms without a valid ticket due to barriers.

The muggles know nothing of platform 9 3/4, as shown by the guard thinking Harry is crazy in book 1, so any ticket can't be valid from the point of view of muggles or their machines.

Some of them can make themselves invisible, but that doesn't make them immaterial, so wouldn't be able to just walk through.

Just a random thought that occurred to me.

Question So what is Umbridge’s deal when it’s all said and done?

Is she just sadistic and power hungry ? It’s never mentioned if she follows Voldemort or not. It seems she just follows whoever as long as she gets to be cruel and in charge.

Video Games What Do You Guys Think Of Hogwarts Legacy?

I've played a bit of the game but I can never finish due to needing long breaks for some reason. I really can't explain it. I think this weekend I am just gonna power through it and play a lot of a Hufflepuff playthrough.

I am curious though. My interactions with this subreddit have been pretty pleasant. What do you guys think of the game? I really wanna play a lot of it this weekend but I can't work up the motivation for some reason.

Question Once Voldemort knew Harry was hunting Horcruxes - why could Harry not tell the others about them?

In DH Voldemort discovers Harry is hunting + destroying horcruxes following the break in at Gringotts. I had always assumed the reason Harry could not tell the other OOP members about the horcruxes was so that Voldemort would not find out that he was hunting them if he questioned someone else. Why then could Harry not tell them when he got to Hogwarts that he was searching for the diadem as it may be a horcrux or that he believed Nagini to be a horcrux?

Discussion Christian Coulson in Half Blood Prince

There's so many ways they could've pulled it off without having to recast one of the best actors in the franchise.

Keep him in the shadows (especially justified considering Slughorn's tampering with his memory).

Include Hepzibah's memory of an older Tom.

Maybe use a little bit of makeup, or even just go the full Better Call Saul route and just trust the audience to understand the actor aged.

I mean, for heaven's sake, they had a 40-year old Moaning Myrtle. Tom having aged a few years is too much for audiences??

Currently Reading Occlumency lessons missed opportunity

Rereading OOTP and does anyone else think it would’ve been interesting if Snape saw Lily death in Harry’s memories during the Occlumency lessons. I can think of several ways he may have reacted, many of which wouldn’t have to give his secret away.

Discussion Harry learning spells from dips in the Pensieve? (CoS Movie)

I'm watching the Chamber of Secrets and just realised that when Harry goes into the Pensieve in Dumbledore's office and sees Hagrid getting expelled, he sees Tom Riddle use Arania Exumai on baby Aragog, and then when they're in the forest he uses it when they're attacked by Aragog's children.

This feels super obvious but I've never noticed before. Makes sense that he trusts Riddle because the spell helped save him and Ron.

The more I watch the more I think it's wild that Harry doesn't know Voldemort was Tom Riddle all along...why did no one tell him, and why isn't Voldemort's past more well know? Did the wizarding world just think "this is a bad guy, let's not look into him at all."

Discussion Was Voldemort truly as great as he wanted people to believe.

He’s definitely up there, he’s not a fraud but was he really as powerful as people made him out to be ?

It always felt a lot of his power came from the fact he was willing to do things no other person was and the fact that he couldn’t be killed because of his horcruxes

But it’s also a fact that he also just avoided fights with anyone stronger than him like Dumbledore and feared any threat.

He was mostly a problem for the British wizards as opposed to grindlewald who became a world wide threat

Discussion Which characters do you think weren’t explored enough?

Which characters do you wish had been explored in more depth, either in terms of their backstories or things that happened off-screen?

For example, I’d really like to know what happened to Dean’s father whose story Rowling ended up cutting out. Or I’d also love to see more of how Lupin and Tonks‘s relationship developed, because personally, the way it stands now feels a bit weird and forced to me. I kind of never understood how they got to that point.

Question Why did the Death Eaters follow Voldemort if he wasn’t pure blood?

Not sure if this has been asked before so I apologize for the redundant question but I'm genuinely curious as to why they just followed him.

Did they not know or were they just manipulated or cursed to believe he was? Was it because he was the heir of Slytherin and that was enough?

Discussion Does Snape actually like Malfoy?

Snape seems to give Malfoy preferential treatment and always takes his side, but I get the feeling underneath it all, he doesn't respect Draco much and thinks he's kind of a disappointing student.

But I'm not sure if he favours Malfoy as part of his overall disguise - (favouring Slytherin and Death Eater kids is consistent with what he wants to project to Voldemort) - or if he actually likes and respects him as a student and person.

When Snape's true character and purpose is revealed, it makes more sense that he'd respect bravery and talent, as shown by Harry and Co, but he hates James and the Marauders too much to ever show it.

Thoughts?

Discussion Something small that I loved from the full cast Audiobooks

I know I'm late to the game talking about this, but I'm almost done listening to all of the full cast audiobooks.

I absolutely love the sound effects of spells being cast! Especially that they made avada kedavra a different sound and it's very sinister.

It gives so much more life and color to the story and I absolutely love it.

Discussion middle eastern school of magic

so i thought of making a magic school in my country enjoy

in the south east of the city of baghdad ,in the place of the old missing city of akkad ,in the middle of the desert ,as you get closer to a point where the dusty wind run from your ,you should get faster until you feel like you hit a very thin wall ,crossing it ,you find a magical place full of farms ,old houses and magical beasts ,the biggest building there is babylon school for peaceful magic ,a big giant zaggorat that look diffrent from eygptian pyramids, you would walk on invisible staircase to reach the floating gardens that are parts of the school ,there are four houses too, if you are passionate enough you would be selected to the house of gilgamish ,the house for for those who build and protect their dreams, or maybe to the house of enki, the house for those who think 1000 time before acting ,maybe house of mardokh where you have to be a person who fight while covered in millions of injuries ,or enkidu house where you learn how to improve your love for nature , most wizards and witches in the middle east are decendent of the old sumerian gods who were just great wizards and witches ,magic in the middle east is run and organized by M.E.M.U also known as middle eastern magic union which always was independent from any official organization in the muggle world , the headquarter of M.E.M.U is in a floating castle on a big chuncks of land ,move in the air from cloud to another in the borders of the magical world under M.E.M.U influence bewitched to never be seen by muggles ,magical beasts that lives in iraq near this school are the lamarso ,winged beast with a bearded gaint human face and beastical body, carpet are used widly in the middle east but not for official qudditich match , magic kind here ether lives in the countryside or desert or mountains ,note : to get to the headquarter of M.E.M.U in iraq ,you should say a secret password in a certain corner in the maze of babylone on land . give me any quetion you have...

Harry or Dumbledore knew the spell Voldemort was using to come back to life and decided to destroy the bones of Tom Riddle Sr., scattering them so he could not use them? He wouldn't be able to come back without that spell component, wouldn't he?

Currently Reading Finished my re-read of Harry Potter

• Upvotes

Watched the Deathly Hallows in Concert over the summer and decided to reread the books. Took me a little less than 2 months to finish. I learned a lot in my re-read that I had forgotten since this was the first time I read them again after the books came out. What a whirlwhind summer, it's bittersweet to have finished but I might make this a yearly tradition.

Help Help with Custom wand design

• Upvotes

Hello everyone! Been a huge Harry Potter fan since I was a kid! As such, I want to get a custom wand made. I have what the wand will look like, (exact same design as Theophilus Harlow in Hogwarts Legacy), but for the handle, I want something simple, yet elegant. Maybe cylindrical with a metal end or something like that. If you have any suggestions or designs that fit this, please drop them in the comments. Appreciate it!

Discussion Dumbledore and Lockhart

I’ve been wondering for some time why Dumbledore hired Lockhart. If he saw through the ruse or he was also fooled. Doesn’t really make sense to me tbh. Because if he knew he was a fraud, then what was the point? But also, if he didn’t know, what kind of hiring process does he go through really?

Help Artist wanted

Hi, I’m looking for an artist to illustrate my Harry Potter AU. What I’m looking for is quite simple; just to be clear, this doesn’t involve any NSFW or gore—nothing of that sort. If you’re interested, please send me a direct message. Thanks for reading; to be honest, I’m a bit desperate ÓuÒ (I should clarify that I have no budget)

Discussion I wish they showed more of voldemorts power

After rewatching a the fantastic beasts movies Grindelwalds feats are unbelievably impressive and it gives you such a good bench mark into seeing how much more powerful he is than everyone else and you really do feel it would be hopeless trying to face him for our hero’s whereas for Voldemort you don’t really see him do something that impressive. they reinforce he’s the greatest dark wizard ever everyone’s terrified of him won’t speak his name etc but you never really see it backed up. I probably articulated this poorly as English isn’t my native language but I’d basically feel more terrified to come up against grindewald than I would Voldemort from what I’ve seen and read which I find sad considering voldemorts meant to be the strongest dark wizard ever everyone's terrified
