Question (?) I already have a decent gaming PC. Which handheld should I get?

I have a PC with an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB + 32GB RAM, which is good enough for demanding games(?), but I mostly play multiplayer competitive titles like Dota, Rivals, some MMO games, etc though.

I'm looking for a handheld PC to play singleplayer games anywhere (couch, bed, traveling), and maybe watch some movies. What would you suggest? Btw all my games are on Steam.

Are screen protectors a thing in 2026?

I remember that in early 2000 it was very common to use screen protectors on almost everything with screen. I guess it was just millennials thing, cause as our ancestors were more careless, we grow up responsible and even overprotective. And screen protectors gave us this fake security and peace of mind.

I dug my old PSP out of the closet and I saw screen protector on it and it reminded me of this absurd :D Especially on PSP - where there's already protective plastic on front, so especially on this handheld it was so dumb to put another layer of plastic on it but nvm... :D

When I grow older, I interested with high end e-readers, for books and for manga/comics - to read it in good quality and save some space. And since then I started to learn that applying screen protector on device like that makes 0 sense. I paid more to get better quality of the screen, to see everything sharp. And other ereader enthusiasts reassured me about it these days, that its much better to leave this screen clear and better invest into high quality sleeve or case. And this is what I started to do.

And it makes sense IMO, because if I think about it today, these messy screen protectors made 0 sense. I pay for high quality device with great screen to cover this up with some sh*t protector for 5, 10 or 20$? :D NO WAY... Its dumb especially when I think about chemicals which these screen protectors has - glue, etc, etc. And screen of our device is exposed to this for years. While even clearing screen with unproper products can destroy screen with time, then these chemicals can damage it too - for sure. Especially when there's sometimes hot summer, or cold winter. Sun, etc, etc. Chemical structure changes. And it affects the screen, slowly, day by day, month by month, year by year.

So since then I started to use clear device - to get the quality of the device I paid for and full experience. Not hiding it with another layer of plastic, not makind it less sharp, and not making it slippery on touch screen and experiencing undetectable touches. Rather than that - I always bought good quality sleeves / cases to keep it safe when not using. And ofc washng these sleeves/cases from time to time.

And u know what? Years passes, and all my devices got still perfect screens. No scratches, no discoloration from protective screens or other weird stuff - just sharp and clean.

Meanwhile I decided to remove the protective screen from my old PSP and u know what? Screen looks messy. The screen protecotr and its chemicals left much worse marks than if I would leave it clear these days. It didn't protect it at all :D Just gave me the false sense of security.

Right now I got laptop, tablet, retro handheld, few expensive ereaders (one for outside, one to use only in home, one only for manga/comics), steamdeck etc, etc. And none of these devices has screen protectors. But got sleeves / cases to protect it when not using, high quality microfiber towel to clear it and not using any toxic clearing products). And screens are sharp, looking great and 0 micro-scratches - nothing.

And it funny to think about it when I look at this PSP now - I protected it so hard and ended up much worse... With damaged screen from protective screen :D

PS:

Ofc I totally understand screen protectors in some cases - especially when it comes to clumsy teens, which throw their devices everywhere or keep it in pocket freely with everything lese. Then ofc it makes sense :D Or for the same reason on phone. But on high end devices as an adult, when its more comfortable to have it in high quality case/sleeve, then it's obvious choice.

Help looking for a "Steam Deck" Lite

Hi,

I am looking for a device that is very similar to the Nintendo Switch Lite in shape, size and weight (EDIT: and in price) but can be loaded with a version of steam that I can play indie and older games on. And maybe some modern games but stuff similar to the new Castlevania....

Can anyone here please recommend any handhelds that would be comparable?

I would greatly appreciate it, thank you.

Question (?) Asus ally z1 Extreme vs Asus Xbox Ally (white) vs MSI Claw 7ai+

Hey all - hoping to try casual handheld pc gaming - I have a Nintendo switch 2 - honestly really only wanting to play WOW Forever and maybe a casual new game such as Star Wars galactic racer - but I’m not a serious gamer for AAA otherwise.

I have a chance to get a brand new asus rog z1extreme at a Walmart for $599 CAD or a Asus rog Xbox ally (white non extreme) for $799 CAD at Costco, or a MSI Claw 7ai+ a2vm from a different Walmart for 750$ CAD.

Any thoughts ? I’m hoping to keep it as cheap as possible for my budget and use case - so the Asus z1e is feeling best. But hoping to hear other thoughts! I know there’s better if I spend more - but hoping to stay within that price range ! Cheers.

I really hated the stock background wallpaper on the ally X20 so I removed all the text and symbol junk around the outside. Enjoy if you like it!

New Handheld Asus X20 initial use and a couple of things I wasn't expecting

Like many on this sub, I received my Asus X20 today and in the midst of the long set up time and customizing my emulators and the like, there was a few things that I was a bit surprised by that I hadn't thought were as important until I got my hands on the device.

Thumbsticks - Sure the tmr thumbsticks were a big factor in preordering the device but after a couple of sessions of BO6 and battlefield 6 I'd like to say they are actually better than I anticipated and wished for.

Micro SD express - another upgrade I expected to make the difference but I had only considered it's performance when emulating certain systems and games for performance. After anticipating couple of hours for set up, I was happy for the speed upgrade when transferring gig after gig of roms and how much time it saved on the initial set up

Dpad - to be specific Im really talking about the rotating mechanism and how so many early hands on guys talked about it like you had to try so hard to get your finger nails in to turn and pivot and that couldn't be further from the truth. Super easy even with my fat fingers and seems like much ado about nothing, works great.

Weight/ergonomics- I've only used the device for about 3 hours but I thought that maybe the added weight would be noticable but I barely feel any difference between it and the XAX. Balance and ergonomics still feel like best in class

Rubberized grip - for some reason, something I was excited about is probably only thing I don't like about the x20 as, for some reason, it really rubs my ring and pinky fingers the wrong way.

Sound - while I was expecting the same great sound from the XAX to carryover, there seems to have been an emphasis on chassis resonance to help with the feel of bass frequencies that helps take the sound up just a notch or two in my opinion.

Display - Freaking worth it. Though there was a bit of overly aggressive brightness and dimming with a few games that I need to sort out.

So far the Asus X20 is just about everything I was hoping it would be. Will see how well the controls handle retro games and get a better feel for the tdp and efficiency changes that Asus made to give the x20 better performance efficiency at 10 and 17w tdps

Can't wait to read more opinions and tips and tricks that people post!

Question (?) What is a worthy upgrade from the Steam Deck Oled?

I currently have a Steam Deck Oled and want to upgrade. I’d like to play single player games like Last of Us, Dead Space Remake, and God of War. What is a handheld that will satisfy an upgrade?

Discussion Next Upgrade?

So I've had the OG Steam Deck. I sold that to get the Rog Ally X (2024). I eventually sold that to get a Lenovo Legion Go 2 (Z2 and 32GB model from Costco). I feel like I'm satisfied with my handheld now but if I were to upgrade it would have to meet these requirements.

1.Good enough to play most games, even modern ones, at 1080p High graphics at 60+ FPS natively.

2.Price no higher than $1000 ( So after the rampocalypse FOR SURE)

3.Better battery efficiency/ bigger battery (Although it's solid now)

4.Quiet but compact. Maybe a tad smaller than the Ally X.

What is everyone's else PC handheld journey and what will it take for you to upgrade?

P.S. I could be full of shit because I do enjoy technology 😂

Question (?) OneXplayer 3 or Legion Go 2 Z2E?

So I currently have the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X and love the performance I get and have had it for almost a year now. before this i had the Legion Go 1 and that is what got me into handhelds to begin with but the performance just wasn't there for me. I loved the bigger display but the ergonomics on it were crap. however, over this past year I have had to RMA my XAX twice due to an issue with the embedded gamepad buttons.

Anyways, i have come into a little bit of money recently and am really considering updating my handheld with either the Legion Go 2 with the Z2E or the OneXplayer 3 with the intel G3 Extreme. I am wondering from those who have tried either both or one or the other what their thoughts are mainly on the ergonomics as I already know the displays are great. also, the performance, is the upgrade of the G3E good enough to outweigh the shotty support of the OneXplayer 3? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Question (?) Handhelh or laptop

Hello everyone!

I recently moved to another country and had to leave my gaming pc behind. Since I will be traveling a bit, I was wondering if it was better to get a gaming laptop or something like the xax 20.
I wouldn't necessarily only play very demanding games but I value the comfort of a stable 60 fps.

Would the difference in power justify the jump to a gaming laptop?
My budget is between $1300 to $2000.

Which handheld should i get? (repost)

I want to get an AYN Thor for college, but I’ve seen how you have to pre-order one and they’ll be dispatched in August. I’m going on a trip in December and i wanted a handheld to bring with me then so I’d like one to bring with me and i might get an AYN Thor afterwards.

My budget is £100-150 ($131-200) but I can stretch to £200 ($263). I was thinking of a PS Vita, but I’ve heard there are other options for the same price that are better. I’d like to play the same types of games as the PS Vita, or maybe the 3DS. I’m happy to go through the process of modding something and setting something up.

I’d just like to know what the best options are so i don’t buy a PS Vita and then find out there’s a more powerful and better console for the same price.

I own an original Switch and i modded it. The problem is it doesn’t fit in my pocket. I’ve thought about the Switch Lite, but I’m not sure I’d be willing to buy a console that I already own just because it’s smaller. I’ve also heard it’s very hard and tedious to jailbreak but if not, let me know.

I also own the original 2011 3DS that I’m thinking of selling because it doesn’t have many games that i like other than Legend of Zelda, Mario kart and Pokémon. It’s annoying not having a stick to look around as my model has no C-stick.

Thank you.

Meme Why are we acting like +0.4 inches isn’t a lot?

I see people saying that the ROG Xbox Ally X20 is just the ROG Xbox Ally X that’s just 0.4 inches bigger but that’s a big difference.

Gutting for a new handheld, but I just went to calibrate my sticks after installing my screen protector and thumbstick grips and saw this. Tried updating, resetting, restarting, nothing worked. There is no drift in games.

Discussion Onexplayer sub mods updated their rules * Thank you guys for 100k views on my recent post it brought a lot of awareness!!* + Onexplayer 3 24hr review

First off, huge thank you to all the people siding with me. The mod that banned me ended up commenting on my post and I lashed out on them. They stated I showed my order confirmation, but the screenshot was cropped to show the 2 day delivery… not my order confirmation lol just so people knew it was real. Apparently I was whining and they updated rules

Nonetheless, they are NOT Onexplayer associates and I hope Onexplayer addresses them for this since that post now has over 100k+ views (probably won’t)

They’re able to let people show off their grips and deem that informative but when I show people you can get one off amazon in two days it’s a problem… baffling lol.

Review:

Set up - man it is a lot. But it’s worth it to get maximum performance. Shoutout to 128kb they helped a lot.

Nonetheless, this thing is a P O W E R H O U S E. the display is beautiful. A tiny bit of wobble on the left controller, but that’s it. The ergonomics on this thing is amazing. It does NOT feel like the legion go 2 (in a good way). Still testing out different TDP’s on different games so another post probably by the end of the month will let you guys know how I feel about it ! 1280p on this thing is chefs kiss.
