Lift I totaled 1200lbs in powerlifting the day before running a sub 24 hour 100 mile ultra trail race

**Neither of these are impressive achievements. They are both very mid if you are training directly for them. The only reason it is difficult is doing them on back to back days. Also, race went poorly coughing up blood at mile 72 and couldn't run past mile 76.

As far as I can tell nobody has done this before. I'm sure people can but I haven't found anyone actually trying. I've spent the past 18 months trying to accomplish this and after numerous setbacks I finally got it done. At first my body kept getting injured until I figured out the correct splits for this. I ended up at

Monday - squat

Tuesday - bench optional 5 mile run

Wednesday - 10 to 15 mile run

Thursday - Deadlift option 5 mile run

Friday - off

Saturday - long run on course

Sunday - 5 to 10 mile run

Then I went for it July 25th at burning river and hit all my lifts, but sprained my ankle at mile 5. I couldn't run anymore at mile 40 and DNF'ed at mile 50. So my training for the past 10 weeks has been painful and miserable. My ankle never fully healed because I kept training, but it never stopped me from getting in the miles and it barely effected the lifting. All of my lifts the day before were just my second attempts because I didn't want to destroy myself too badly before the race. I had a level 2 powerlifting judge give me the yes or no on every lift. The race went amazing for 72 miles until I couldn't breath deeply anymore and developed a bad cough with pinkish phlegm. I think I developed exercise induced pulmonary edema, because anytime I drank water or lied down my throat would gurgle and cause me to cough. So after mile 76 I could barely run anymore and had to walk it in. Thankfully, I ran a 9:25 front 50 and had plenty of time to basically crawl to the finish line.

I've been training through some pretty bad injured and I'm going to take some time off to do some easy bodybuilding and get healthy. I know I'll never run another 100 miler its just not fun after mile 80, but I may enjoy some 50 milers in the future. Has anyone else seen someone do this before?

4 years of training get here. One of only a handful of fully natural stones of 190kg+ ever put to shoulder. Lifetime drug free and around 240lbs body weight at the time.
No barbell or metal weights lifted as part of programming since 2019.

Granted, these aren’t fully clean reps, I saw my shoulders rounded a little on rep 5, but they still show massive improvement compared to my first ever pull-up done a few months ago.

General Advice What gym gear do you guys use and recommend?

I’m looking at getting some decent knee sleeves, elbow sleeves and a lifting belt, but there are so many options!

What brands do you recommend, and what thickness/material do you prefer? For example, 3mm vs 5mm vs 7mm knee sleeves, leather vs nylon belts, etc.

I already have lifting straps, which I use for heavier RDLs, and gloves, which I’ve only used once. I realised I can manage everything without the gloves for now.

Just curious what gear you find useful for regular gym training, including any good budget options. What are your experiences?

Technique Check* Romanian deadlift help

Hi, I need some advice, I want to do Romanians, but can’t figure out the tech. What am I doing wrong? I feel it in my lover back, not the hamstring as much.
I have quite strong hamstrings from other moves, but I can’t increase the weight because I’m afraid my lover back won’t survive. Any tips are welcome. Thank you

Technique Check Trying to incorporate everyone's feedback

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The feedback I’ve tried incorporating:

Primary advice I’ve received is about the bar rolling forward. So before I bend down to connect shins to bar I pull up on bar to create tension and then bend…squeezing pits and dropping hips slightly

I’ve seen some people say chin to chest and others say how I have it.

I’m also trying to make sure the force is even across my whole foot to stay balanced.

The belts super uncomfortable but that’s because of my fatness. I tried riding it higher like suggested but that just pinches my belly.

I included sound

As much as I could I tried to have the bar riding my shins on the way up and down to keep it as close as possible.

Am I standing up straight enough at the apex?

Realized I was doing touch and goes. Maybe better to fully stop while I’m still learning?

Doing 275 for reps. Not too sure how many sets/reps to do. I just finished 5 sets of 8 reps.

Progress Picture(s) Happiest I’ve ever been at age 31! 215lbs——>179lbs from November 2025-October 2026

Post image

First photo was taken last November. I was totally unhappy with myself. I was exhausted doing basic things, I felt insecure in my clothes, my pants wouldn’t even zip up all the way anymore and it took me a disappointing amount of time to realize it was because I was eating and drinking like shit and in the process gaining weight. The last straw was my favorite tux I had made for me didn’t fit anymore on NYE. I had to fight to get it buttoned up. So I decided to change and do something instead of bitching about it in the mirror. I started dieting and going to the gym, specifically Hotworx because it helped me lock in on cardio. I usually did three classes a day, 5 days a week. I hit a calorie deficit eating around 1700-2000 calories a day, and changed my eating habits big time. I went from 215 down to 162 at my lowest weight. 53lbs. I felt like a new person. Once I reached that, I decided it’s time to start properly hitting the weights and bulking up as previously I was really only doing heavy cardio. So currently I eat around 2800-3000 calories a day, and eat about 180g of protein. I run two miles four days a week, and do lower and upper body twice a week each (so four days lol.) Currently I’m at 179lbs and have my diet and routine locked in. If you want to make a change, you can do it. Believe in yourself even if others don’t. Stay focused on your diet most importantly and don’t be too harsh on yourself if you’re not perfect with it. Eating a bit much happens. As I’ve seen others say before, don’t total your car just because you crashed. Just lock in and get back on track. Believe in yourself and don’t give up. 🤘🏽
