Please use this thread for all discussion of which game you recommend others that you play, whether it is your first game or some that you are considering playing next
A note for newcomers: most of the games are completely unconnected. Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy IX, etc, are all completely different casts of characters in completely different universes. The only times you need to play another game to understand one is if it is distinctly set in the same universe - for example, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is the sequel to Final Fantasy XIII, or Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is a prequel to Final Fantasy VII. The titles will usually make it fairly clear which game's universe they are set in
Otherwise, please have fun! It is generally helpful when asking to briefly mention which ones you might be interested in, what platforms you are able to play on, and if you are a complete newcomer, what sort of things in games you're looking for (do you want turn-based combat, real time combat, deep stories with established characters, light stories that let you fill in some blanks with your imagination, etc)

I've played the first 10 games so far, my picks are:
FF1: Black Mage, for its design alone, so incredibly iconic...
FF2: Minwu!! Awesome dude, love him...
FF3: Desch, cause I got a thing for stupid womanisers, and the classic haircut combo short hair in the front + ponytail
FF4: Yang really stuck out to me, he's so cool... HM to Kain and Cecil tho
FF5: FARIS I LOVE FARIS!!!! I'm in love with Faris, Faris is wonderful...
FF6: Cyan! I looove funny old men with a tragic story and he fits that great, he's amazing. HM to the Figaro Brothers, especially Sabin, he is really awesome and I love me some siblings dynamics
FF7: Aerith, man... I've had many FF7 favs between Cloud, Zack, Reno and Nanaki, but Aerith really stuck with me after playing Remake, she is very lovely
FF8: Laguna!! I have rarely been more excited playing a game than when I was finally going to see the president of Esthar and I knew it would be my glorious king Laguna, also he aged like fine wine, I was lowkey bracing myself for him to have turned chopped...
FF9: Vivi, my beautiful son Vivi, bringing back the classic Black Mage style in fashion, probably one of the best characters in GAMING lowkey... HM to Steiner and Freya, they are very awesome
FF10: Yuna, my beautiful fantastic amazing talented daughter Yuna-Tuna, I love her so so much

Today, it is @OrekiGenya that created Squall's artwork. ( https://x.com/FFRS_JP/status/2110294540565500211 )
It's just a cool art piece of Squall and his gunblade. I don't have much to add as it is just epic.

Let me start off by saying..
Yes it's grindy. Yes the plot is silly and cringe at times, yes it's repetitive. Yes the cast is forgettable and the levels are confusing/poorly designed.
But is it fun? Absolutely. Is it campy? Of course. And you can PUNCH/KICK things to death. You can literally play any of the Jobs from the mainline series and even mix/match some.
If you can look past the grindfest and cheese though the cringe story, it's a very very satisfying Souls/Diablo clone.
Jack is a ridiculous character but he is probably one of the most badass characters to date. He is literally THE villain of final fantasy (Sepiroth who?)
You can punch skeletons to death. You can punch goblins to death. There are iconic FF weapons in the game you can find as references like Save The Queen or Excalibur as well as each level being a reference to a game all the way up to XV
The game is a love letter to FF and the child of FF x NIOH. Nobody can deny that, it even has Gilgamesh in the DLC
The game really doesn't hold up to the lore of the original game but that's explained way later. The issue is the game's difficulty, it's BRUTAL. They even had to add a cheese it mode to help players struggling but when you beat those difficult enemies holy crap it feels amazing. The dopamine rush is great.
A lot of players never even got to experience the DLC because it is punishing and requires you to play on the highest difficulty. But it's insane how much FF they can reference and pack into it (including hidden bosses)
I really hate how nobody talks about the game or praises it despite its faults. The game needed more time in the oven that's for sure. But what it does it does damn well and I thoroughly enjoyed my time with it and I'm still occasionally playing it to 100%
Where else can I call a bully a Lich and punch it to death or suplex a Tonberry?

A little while ago I came across this post here on r/FinalFantasy:
I really liked the idea of being able to explore and inspect the original Final Fantasy VII PS1 models directly in the browser, and that project became the main inspiration for what I'm working on.
I decided to take the same concept and extend it to the whole PS1 Final Fantasy games.
So I built a browser-based viewer where you can explore assets from Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX in 3D.
You can rotate and inspect the models directly in your browser, and I've been gradually adding and improving the assets and the viewer itself.
As someone who loves this era of Final Fantasy, it's been really interesting to see these models outside of the games and get a closer look at how they were actually built.
Here are a few screenshots from the viewer.
If anyone wants to try it:
https://ff-viewer.andreacorriga.com/
I'd also love to hear if there are any specific models or features you'd like to see added.

Hi everyone!
I'm working on a Final Fantasy X-2 HD Remaster Trophy Tracker to help players keep track of trophy requirements, missable opportunities, and longer completion tasks throughout the game.
The goal is to make it easier to keep track of things that are easy to overlook during a 100% playthrough, including:
Important: This app is intended to be used alongside a proper 100% story walkthrough (Trophy: Sweet Perfection) for the story completion requirements, while using this tracker as a companion checklist for trophies and missable tasks.
How to run it:
The tracker uses only Python's standard library, so no additional third-party Python packages should be needed.
Download / source: https://github.com/gsouza994/ffx2-trophy-tracker
This is a fan-made, unofficial tool. I'd appreciate feedback, corrections, and suggestions, especially if you notice any missing requirements or ways to make the checklist safer for a 100% run.
Hope it helps someone else working toward the platinum!

Playing Final Fantasy 1 for the first time, and am enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. Then I decided to check out Elfheim and was just blindsided by this. Honestly got a good laugh out of me lol

After replaying this game I noticed that the devs either didn't have enough time OR just didn't know what to do with Amarant and Freya... like at all. Freya starts REALLY strong with an amazing storyline and arc... that just stops. And then you have Amarant, the character that if you took it out from the game... absolutely nothing would change plotwise... wich would be totally fine if he was like an secrete character like Yuffie or Vincent (Although they do play some part in the story if you get them).
Not only that I noticed everything in this game feels really fast paced, not rushed, just very quick, specially the dungeons.
With that said, this is my favorite FF and one my top 5 games of all time that I will protect like a child.
Also Kuja is hot.

What do you consider the best FF game for Nintendo DS or 3DS, and why?
I recently picked up my DS and 3DS again, and started playing FF3 for the DS. Iām enjoying it so far, but Iām curious as to what the other games are like!

Iāve been aware of FF since SNES (or maybe N64), but never played it until I got a switch recently and found this resonance demo/ Chpt 1.
Itās cool. Like PokĆ©mon general structure, but more complex with waaaay better graphics than the PokĆ©-gameboy-emulator I used to play sometimes.š¤£
I gather from a quick browse of this sub that everyone has a favourite moment, season or iteration of the game. I may never get into it that deep⦠but I enjoyed the strategy and graphics of the demo.
As someone with low-stakes in gaming or FF, can anyone recommend a timeline for when I could get this cheaper? Will it be on sale Black Friday? Will ppl flood fb marketplace with game key cards for 50% off once theyāve beat the game on Oct 23?
⦠or does it depreciate value slowly due to its cult status?
Thanks for your input-
āLong live Fina !ā

I dunno, when I first played Final Fantasy 5 a few months back I searched up artwork for the main characters and was very shocked to see that they all looked fairly different in Amanoās artwork compared to their in game sprites. Which isnāt a new thing for Amano of course, the Warrior of Light in the first game compared to the artwork and current portrayals like Dissidia and the upcoming Resonance vision are incredibly different, but something about this portrayal Bartz never really clicked with me. The outfit, the haircut, the demeanor, it all seems just so different from him in game.
Edit: Realized that the images are prolly confusing so.
Images 1 & 3 are based on his sprites.
Images 2 & 4 are the Amano designs.

So the title pretty much sums it up. I am a pseudo-new but not really new fan of the FF franchise. My first Final Fantasy ever was the 7 remake; then I played 16; then, while not exactly FF, I got super into Kingdom Hearts, and now I'm back on Final Fantasy. I know 14 is a big commitment, and I wanna finish the 7 remakes and X before diving headfirst into a full-blown MMO, but I was just wondering, for WHEN I get to that point, since everyone says 14 has one of the best stories ever, which version would be best? Now I imagine the complete edition is probably the best just cause it has everything, but for someone who wants to just try it out to start and learn mechanics, is the Starter Edition that's like $20 worth it for the full experience, or is the Free Trial version enough? I hesitate with the Free Trial simply because I saw there are a lot of restrictions community-wise, and I don't mind dropping $20 on the game, but I saw that if you buy the $20 version, it locks you out of the free version permanently. Sorry for all the words; I just wanted to be sure I explained fully. Also, if anyone has any other FF titles to recommend for a newbie, please do! I love both real-time and turn-based action, so I wanna eventually play all of them!
TL;DR: should i get the free trial version of 14 or is the $20 version worth it before eventually buying the complete version

Kess announced on the Kickstarter page for Origins Of Light that there will be an FF4 stand alone version as a part of the Kickstarter? They also announced that the Kickstarter launches on the 20th of October (next week?)

I know these games are generally not well loved. But I went through and enjoyed it. Certainly no masterpiece, but I think itās over-hated
However, the final boss of Lightning returns, has me about to walk away.
Iāve gone through the whole game without a single issue. Iāve even downloaded some to the DLC for my builds. Every boss and battle has been cake.
And now Iām at the final boss. And I just keep gettinā spanked. And not, like, by a little bit. Dude decimates me. I had skipped Ultima Weapon, so decided to get that. The Earth Eater is even harder than the boss.
I could go back to an old save, but considering the DLC items I downloaded are the best in my inventory, I donāt know what good going back and getting any other items would really be worth it.
Iām not the kinda gamer who is going to fight the same boss 30 times to try to beat it. If a game begins to waste my time, Iāll abandon it. But I hate doing it right at the end of a Trilogy Iāve mostly enjoyed.
Did this happen to anyone else?
