GDFC Square Enix. put it on a fking cart.
-9
u/bbressman2 23h ago
The Switch 1 version is complete on cart. Buy that one if itâs such an issue.
12
u/Professional_Rush_20 23h ago
Apparently it has lower performance specs due to the version loaded to the cart. This could have easily been a physical release on the SW2.

u/tridean 23h ago
Why defend this?
14
u/Le_Nabs 23h ago
Nintendo chose to force publishers to either have an 8gb or a 64gb cart for their games on the switch 2, whereas the OG switch had 5 cart sizes, leaving a lot more flexibility for publishers.
Thats why so many publishers choose the keycart, instead of the full game carts - they'd have to put smaller games onto expensive 64gb game carts, in the midst of a generational flash storage shortage.
It's unfortunate, but no reasonable company would use game carts on smaller sized games if it doesn't fit on the smallest carts

u/Bacour 23h ago
Yeah, I do exactly that when there's an option for games like this. That doesn't absolve SE of this shit practice. Do you not understand how that works or do you carry around a shoe shine kit?
-1
u/bbressman2 23h ago
Nah Iâm just saying there is an alternative. I donât mind game keycards because at the end of the day at least itâs still a physical game that I own. Unlike Sony, who after next year is taking that option away. The only part that I refuse to defend is SE should offer a $10 upgrade path, that is a shitty practice.

u/IllustriousSalt1007 8h ago
You are right, but they won't listen to you. We are entering an all digital age. Sony and Microsoft told physical media enthusiasts to kick rocks. Meanwhile, Nintendo set up a good compromise for publishers that retains 90% of the benefits of a physical game. Yet so many people want to attack them instead. It makes absolutely zero sense. They are supporting physical releases more than any other 1st party company, and they are receiving the most hate from physical release fans! We shouldn't let perfect be the enemy of good. The alternative isn't having everything fully on cart - the alternative is Nintendo going fully digital just like Sony and MS have.

u/vinta_calvert 22h ago
Physical game..? Once that key is no longer serviceable from an online store (store goes down, options removed from store, etc), you no longer have the game. That's the entire problem with these modern digital games and why people keep wanting actual physical games back.
0
u/epicwizardshit 12h ago
GKCs donât go through a âstoreâ hence why you can play this game early if you got the key card. This literally has never happened and never will. Youâre paranoid for no reason. This âproblemâ is in your head.

u/Bacour 23h ago
Okay... so we've determined that you don't understand what a 'physical copy' of a game is. I guess if you don't understand the most basic aspects of why it's a shit thing to do (let alone what it means), then there's no way to relate to your statements.

u/Heretic-Arios 20h ago
For someone that asks people not to be condescending, you sure do a lot of it yourself.
0
u/bbressman2 23h ago
Oh youâre right you got me, Iâm an idiot that doesnât understand the difference between complete on cart vs code on cart. Again itâs a better option than what Sony is doing. I can buy the game, share the game with multiple friends, and if I donât like the game I can trade it back for money just like a physical game. I never said this was a perfect option but itâs better than no disc or physical version at all. But then again Iâm an idiot so what do I know.

u/One-Employee-3369 20h ago
Ok âŚ?! âŚbut whatâs the difference between a card & a cart? ( Just to condescend to the condescending )
1
u/epicwizardshit 12h ago
Itâs physical. Whatâs not to understand. I can hold it, throw it, break it, sell it, give it away, who cares
â˘
u/Bacour 7h ago
To be considered a Physical Game requires the game to be fully contained on the delivery medium. You need to be able to place the delivery medium into the console and then play the game.entirely from that medium. There can certainly be some required downloaded content directly from the physical medium to the console itself, but may not require any outside influence. IE, the game must be fully playable from the game delivery cart/disc without any outside connection required by the console.
So you understand what a physical delivery medium is, but are wrongly focused on that as if it was, or contained, the game code. Which GKCs do not. Therefore, while you can indeed destroy the delivery medium, sell the delivery medium, throw it at you little brother, or stuff it where the don't shine... you cannot play the game off it.
It is not a physical game. It is a tradable digital code allowing you access to the license for the game.
â˘
u/epicwizardshit 5h ago
âPhysical gameâ is not a real term lol. If I can hold it in my hand, and it is a game, it is a physical game. You made up this entire definition. Pretty sure you also made up the term âphysical delivery medium.â Nobody has ever used that when referring to GKCs lol. Good job.
â˘
u/Bacour 5h ago
I used the definition for a Physical Game that the community has generally settled on the differentiate Fully Digital games from Fully Physical games. GKCs sit in the realm of Digital games as they require an internet connection to download the game, which is not contained on the cart. GKCs are what Xbox wishes they had been able to do and why they ginned up this whole Disc-to-Digital intermediary. So no, sorry pal, but you're objectively wrong.
And yes, I did make up the term Physical Delivery Medium because it was required to properly differentiate having a GKC, which is a physical Cart (or Medium) with no game data on the Cart at all, and a Physical Game, wherein the Cart/disc has the complete game data on the Physical Medium and does not require any outside connection to play the game.
So congrats. A new term had to be entered into the gaming lexicon to make sure no one could misrepresent generally accepted terms and understandings in the community.

u/epicwizardshit 5h ago

âyouâre objectively wrongâ

You just don't understand the actual logistics of it.
The Switch 1 has 6 cartridge sizes available to publishers: 1gb, 2gb, 4gb, 8gb, 16gb, 32gb. FF Resonance is 12.7gb roughly, so it fits pretty cleanly on the 16gb cart.
The Switch 2 has 2 cartridge sizes: 8gb and 64gb. The 64gb carts are quite expensive, too. So Resonance, which is 12.7gb, would have to go on an expensive 64gb cart with over 50gb of unused space.
If Nintendo offered a 16gb Switch 2 cart, it would almost assuredly not be a GKC.

I understand the logistics just fine. I'm well aware of the issues involved. I'm also aware of the pricing. Try being less condescending next time.

u/IllustriousSalt1007 8h ago
Try being less condescending next time.
Lmfao. You have been condescending in every single message you've sent in this thread. Get real.
â˘
u/Bacour 7h ago
Yes, but I've also been correct. Being condescending AND WRONG, is just tacky. Don't do it.
â˘
u/bbressman2 7h ago
đ holy shit, could you be any more full of yourself. Youâre not right, youâre just expressing your opinion. Itâs fine to hate GKCs, but you havenât said anything besides âGKC is badâ. Go buy it on PlayStation while you still can, or boycott the game and every other Square game to teach them a lesson. Have a great day though and thanks for the laugh, my day was dragging on.

u/Mercinarie 16h ago

â˘
u/Octoplath_Traveler 10h ago
Yes. But that poster is also talking abkut the Switch 1 version which, unlike this version, has the whole game on cart.

u/Training_Lychee_8821 18h ago
Does it come with a reversible cover? Canât stand the game key card note on the bottom lol
â˘
u/Mr-Bovine_Joni69 8h ago
Lmfaooo if it did have a reverse cover it would show the same slop on that side too. It is so fucking ugly.

u/senseless_puzzle 22h ago
Is the Key even accessible to download yet?
â˘
u/Jimmythedad 4h ago
Yes. This question always comes up when people get GKCs early. As long as the game is on the server, which it is, OP will be able to download and access it!

u/SirLockeX3 22h ago edited 18h ago
Apparently yes.
Some got the KH collection early on card and they were able to download the games.

u/ShiningStarman 19h ago
I got DQ XI early and was able to play that too. Not this early though, Iâm jealous of the person who can.

Did you order from Square Enix directly? I'm just asking because I hope my copy arrives close to the launch date lol.

u/lokipagan 18h ago
I'm currently playing through Tactics (the new release) then I'm going to hop into this. I played the demo and I kind of hate the UI/font, though, feels too mobile-gamey for me. Still, pixel art is gorgeous.

â˘
u/Popular-Ad-3278 6h ago
Wow. Nice.
Did they mess up and Can you play it ?
Or is it locked until release ?

Everyone should. Being ignorant shouldn't even be an excuse anymore, with the current Sony digital rights fiasco.
â˘
â˘
u/IllustriousSalt1007 8h ago
Ironic for you to bring up Sony while attacking Nintendo considering the fact that Sony and MS have both told us to go fuck our selves and promised an exclusively all digital future. Meanwhile Nintendo is trying to meet 3rd party publishers in the middle in an attempt to retain some form of physical ownership. We are soon in an all digital world when it comes to console gaming, and Nintendo is the only 1st party company still giving us physical options. If you truly cared about physical, you would be supporting them.
â˘
u/rhythmgamegawd 6h ago
Square Enix is choosing to use game-key cards. nintendo isn't forcing it down their throat. SE needs pressure placed on them if you ever want to own a full game on cart again.
