Fluff Post Disgusting movie seats at Cineplex South Edmonton Common.

Sorry if this has been brought up in the past.

The recliner seats at the Cineplex South Edmonton Common are the most nasty looking, ratty seats in existence! I understand it’s tough these days, everything is just so bloody expensive and replacing the covers on every seat is probably an expensive proposition.

However it really makes a place just look unprofessional. This couple with the general uncleanliness of the theatres now.

Yesterday wet napkins were jammed in the cup holders, and they seem so understaffed or are just so cheap in hiring that no one really cleans the theatre very well between showings.

I get it, tough business, narrow margins but we as society have just seemed to have lost basic customer service and experience.

If movie theatres want to try and attract “bums in the seats” then maybe they should go back to the basics. Instead of wasting money and retail space on crappy arcade games, re-invest that money into basic maintenance.

Whatever, I really don’t know anything, just felt good to whine into the air.

Thank you.

General Advanced Voting Perks

Just got back from the advanced voting and was in and out in less than 15 minutes. I definitely recommend it over waiting until the actual day.

Since they give you 10 separate ballots to fill out, it does take slightly longer to fill them out. You also have to stand in line to add your ballots to 10 separate boxes. The lines may be extra long on the actual day due to this. Don’t be surprised if they also ask you to confirm your voting location when you first arrive by scanning a QR code, which may delay things further.
The place I voted at had limited parking so I can’t imagine how much of a nightmare it will be on Monday.

If you can make it to the advanced voting, definitely do it to save your time!

Looks like most advanced voting places are open every day this week from 9am-8pm and end on Saturday evening.

Health Covid and flu shots available already

Hello!

Whomever’s working in public health must have noticed how so many people are getting sick, as they’ve started the vaccination process early.

Please note, if you want the Novavax/Nuvaxovid shot, you might have to look around - right now, the Crestwood Apothecary on 142 street and 96 avenue has a bunch, and if you call ahead, you may find some Safeway pharmacies have it too.

Go go go! Do your bit for protecting your health and for public health, too!

And this way, you have more time to vote on Monday (which was the original start date for flu and covid vaccines)!

https://www.alberta.ca/stats/dashboard/respiratory-virus-dashboard.htm

Who qualifies for COVID vaccine?

Provincially funded COVID-19 vaccines will be available to Albertans:
65 years of age and older
6 months of age and older who are:
residents of long-term care homes and other congregate living settings
individuals with underlying medical conditions, including immuno-compromising conditions
homeless
pregnant
First Nations, Inuit and Métis individuals
health care workers and other care providers in facilities and community settings
teachers eligible under the Back to School Act

Individuals actively registered with one of our colleges.
Union members (for example, UNA, HSAA, AUNP, AUPE, CUPE) as well as individuals who work in patient-facing settings such as:
hospital staff (including students in health disciplines, contract workers and volunteers)
staff in community health settings (for example, clinical labs, home care, shelters)
medical first responders
staff in continuing care and supportive living
disability support workers and staff working in recovery settings
health care aides on the provincial registry
students training in facilities such as hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, continuing care homes and supportive living accommodations

And anyone with the following:
cancer (currently receiving treatment)
cerebrovascular disease
chronic liver diseases
chronic lung diseases
chronic kidney diseases

disabilities (for example, Down syndrome, learning, intellectual, or developmental disabilities, ADHD, cerebral palsy, congenital disabilities and spinal cord injuries)

Commuting/Transit TIL Japan’s “proof of parking” rule is a regulation requiring car owners to provide proof of a designated parking space before registering or purchasing a car.

This could be the answer to Edmonton's infill/parking controversy.

It could be modified to include additional parking allocations based on street frontage of the property. City officials are maintaining that the required parking for residential units is outdated and many people desire a car-free lifestyle, so why not let the housing market decide.

If there are a glut of unsold units because city planners and developers misjudged the desire for transit oriented development, then so be it. Let the market decide.

Fluff Post After months of being closed for improvements, YEG's runway 12/30 (the south one) was reopened early... and the first arrival was the Oilers!

First in was AC7040, Air Canada Jetz fin 232, carrying the Edmonton Oilers, OEG support staff, and media.

The next was the Utah Mammoth on DAL8953. Both flights came in on the OILRS 2 approach.

YEG reopened the runway early on Wednesday due to the 45kt+ crosswind on runway 02/20 (the north one).

General Dear ETS & Epcor

You have been detouring the 916 bus for nothing. Epcor canceled that project on like Oct 3rd , two days before Oct 5th - Nov 2nd ets detour.

Now I understand some lag time, maybe a week , but literally this is week 2 of this and this morning I saw one driver go straight and I saw another take the detour.

I genuinely dont know which answer is correct anymore and I'm second guessing the competence of all companies involved who cant even talk to each other / keep tabs on projects or inform their employees.

I dont have time to figure out who to file a complaint so a snark reddit post will have to do for now.

If someone can send me the official email I can complain too - that would be great thank you!

Definitely Moreso on ets than epcor imo

Question What to do with books I no longer wish to keep?

So I have a box full of books and some of which I no longer wish to keep so I’m curious on what I should do to get them off my hands? I will be asking my friends if any of them want my books but with the ones leftover, what should I do? Throwing them away feels wrong to me but if I have to, I guess I’ll do that. I’m just trying to find a way to get them off my hands. Thanks

Question ETS Driver question ...

Genuine question, not wanting to sound like an A Hole or get A Hole replies (then again, this is reddit) but why do ETS drivers drive so.....aggressively? Like the slamming on the gas and brakes at the stops throws people around i have to run to a seat so I dont bail.

Is it because they are on such a tight schedule? Are they trained to drive like this? Maybe its just a big city driving thing?

I know a lot of people who drive their cars like this, but i feel like busses should not as there are people standing and walking. Most will wait until someone with obvious physical disabilities sit before pedal to the metal, but for someone who does not look to them disabled, best of luck!

Realize not everyone has the same experience and maybe I wouldn't notice as much if I didnt have such a hard time with balance (invisible disability)

Discussion Best Smash Burger in Edmonton?

I saw a similar post recently, and the consensus favorites seemed to be Flat Boy/Shiddy, Rival Burgers, and Jack's Burger Shack.

What other burger spots am I missing? Drop your favorite in the comments. I'm letting Reddit decide where I'm grabbing lunch today. 🍔

Discussion Long Shot: Any OPM cooks on here

Years ago in south common was one of my go to take out spots: OPM.

Sadly they closed down, they were owned by Joey’s restaurants which also owns the Local that took the spot.

They used to make a seven flavoured beef made with gardein faux meats and a Mongolian beef also made with the faux meat.

Anyone know the recipes for those dishes? I’ve tried other seven flavoured beef recipes online but couldn’t get it right.
