Let’s check in with the prediction markets to see whether MLB will get its advertising under control.

248

u/tigerjaws 12h ago

I find it insane how the Pete Rose scandal happened yet we have kalshi literally sponsoring lounges at dodger stadium and stars (not just in MLB) in commercials promoting these pseudo gambling sites

77

u/ecc_dg Vin Scully 12h ago

I also want Kalshi and the prediction markets to go away, but let’s not forget that Pete Rose bet (and this is key) on the team he was managing and/or playing for.

12

u/Kingkongcrapper Shohei Ohtani 12h ago

Yeah, that’s the thing I hate about the Rose stuff. I think there should be a waiver for betting on your own team.

4

u/duxbak99 Orel Hershiser 5h ago

The problem is if one bets on their own team to win, but only certain games, one might manage differently (choose higher quality relievers, for example) to win some games and the cost of others.

16

u/mdb_la 12h ago

I think sports betting is a huge problem, but there's clearly a difference between betting on games you're actively involved in vs. encouraging the public to waste their own money.

11

u/M4k31tcl4p6969 Decoy 11h ago

Okay, but with Pete Rose, he was betting on his team to WIN. We aren't talking about a Chicago Black Socks scandal here

7

u/Dom-Perspective7628 7h ago

We don’t know that for sure. All we know is he did bet and agreed to take full punishment if the MLB would cease and desist their investigation.

No doubt in my mind he did shadier stuff like bet against his own team.

Also betting to win, he might be overworking a reliever instead of saving him for the next game so it does have an effect.

16

u/cXs808 Gavin Lux 11h ago

Yes but that doesn't matter he was still betting on a game he was playing in.

Obviously it's not as bad as Clase's bullshit but it's still not okay. Whose to say that Rose didn't talk to opposing manager and offer splitting winnings? We can't know but we know that Rose was involved in the game and it was possible.

6

u/M4k31tcl4p6969 Decoy 11h ago

You know, that's a very valid argument I never considered

8

u/cXs808 Gavin Lux 11h ago

I think that's why it gets messy when it comes to on-field participants wagering on outcomes. They have incredibly easy access to way too many things/people who can affect the game one way or another.

It's easier to just outright ban it and come down hard on anyone who tries to skirt the rules.

5

u/OceanMerc Los Angeles Dodgers 10h ago

By this argument and logic, every bet can be a conspiracy. You can always make the bet, have behind the scenes arrangements with someone in the game, and split the winnings. All this to say betting always carries a risk and I wish it went away.

6

u/cXs808 Gavin Lux 10h ago

I'm in agreement with what you're saying. Sports should have never got in bed with sports betting. Sports betting was a seen as a degenerate, shameful activity when I was young. Not sure what happened since then but it's ugly.

As far as we know. You have far more control over helping your team lose than win. Everything we know about Rose, it seems unlikely he would bet against his own team, but that's the concern. He's dead, now he can be in the hall, but betting on your own sport and especially own team should always be a red line.

2

u/Dom-Perspective7628 4h ago

I think he did bet against his team. Why he was punished so harshly. We aren’t told what MLB knows. Just what they want to tell us.

Let’s see if MLB will take down those Kalshi ads everywhere. Especially near the empty seats of the Rays vs Guardians seats because most of the fan base watching the ALCS were at home gambling.

12

u/MD32GOAT Mookie Betts 11h ago

The fucking polymarket ad WITH ohtani behind home plate drives me crazy.

Double up on kalshiiiiet. New variant of sidney Sweeney commercial will win you $200

111

u/SouthCable846 Andy Pages 13h ago

Is it the one with Sydney Sweeney? That shit reminded me of those old Carl Jr’s commercials that used to be super horny for no reason lol

53

u/MedicinalHammer Kiké Hernández 12h ago

Either that or the Megan Fox dick pill one

Both are pretty egregiously just “look at my tits and ass and buy this” ads

18

It’s literally every single commercial break too. Is there really no other advertisers out there that don’t involve gambling or sex?

I somewhat agree here.

I think for me it's more of the gambling ads. MLB literally has a player involved gambling scandal in the last year and then lets a star player in Acuna Jr go be in a Kalshi commercial. It just doesn't make sense to me. I'm all for players getting endorsements and paid outside of the game but for things like shoes/clothing/etc. Promoting gambling where they LITERALLY can affect the outcome of said bets just seems so obviously blatant of something that should not be happening.

769

u/rightbyrobert 13h ago

I can agree with him even though I don’t believe the same as him. There’s no room or need for sex ads in sports. I’m also really tired of the gambling ads

149

u/LostInNvrLand 12h ago

I’m kinda tired of all ads. Can we get rid of the Megan Fox ad for her spark pill too.

117

u/NoTrillionaires 12h ago

You mean you don’t want to take megan fox’s viagra pill to get a raging boner watching naked sydney sweeney to release your sexual frustration on kalshi prop bets?

7

I hate Trump as much as the next man but are you honestly suggesting that they haven’t been selling sex in sports games forever?

14

u/BruitNoise Mookie Betts 10h ago

We've always had sexuality in ads and prob worse with Cigarette ads but now we got gambling ads so if cancer doesn't kill you, personal debt will.

37

u/cXs808 Gavin Lux 11h ago

They always have but not this aggressively. I've NEVER seen boner pill ads in primetime playoff baseball ad breaks in my life prior to this. I remember when "sexy" ads were fully clothed women moving suggestively. Now we have full blown tits and ass out with a football or hockey stick covering the nipple. Like cmon.

Regular season games? Probably. Primetime CS games? Never.

Couple that with the other degenerate advertisements about sports gambling and yeah it's definitely worse than I can ever remember.

9

u/Doucejj 6h ago

You don't have a great memory then. Carl's Jr ads and GoDaddy ads were huge 20 years ago.

The nascar driver Mark Martin used to drive a Viagra sponsored car. I remember going to look at the hot wheels section in Walmart and you could buy a toy viagra car.

It was always there. Social media just makes everything louder now

4

u/Frequent-Ferret-5110 9h ago

Regulations have been loosened across the board and his own family is heavily invested in prediction markets while he fights against states' ability to regulate them, while federal agencies including the FCC now exist solely to further his personal agenda

"Sex sells" has gotten worse under him and now it's blatantly being used to take advantage of people so that he can profit

12

u/ajv1993 Freddie Freeman 12h ago

This. These commercials unfortunately reminded me of the ones I saw as a kid in the early 2000s. Remember the Paris Hilton Carl's Jr. ads or Enzyte with..."Smiling Bob?" shudders

9

u/cXs808 Gavin Lux 11h ago

Smiling bob is nowhere near as inappropriate as Megan Fox in a full body skin tight suit talking about boners. At least smiling bob you had to read between the lines.

Paris Hilton had clothes on, clothes that wouldn't even be considered that revealing compared to todays standards. Need I remind you that 10x a game they show sydney sweeney fully nude with nothing but a football covering her nipples or a hockey stick covering her vag?

We also never had sports gambling commercials, period.

As a woman who loves baseball, I find the commercials more cringe than anything. Watching Spectrum LA all the commercials are for limp dick gamblers who don't smell like gentlemen, with the occasional irritant that is a Kars 4 Kids commercial.

Today, this fourteenth day of October, Alex Call and I agree on something. There’s no reason for sexually suggestive commercials or commercials promoting gambling (or “prediction markets”🙄) to air during nationwide sporting events. I do get a small amount of satisfaction that they air on Fox though. “Family First America” right Fox?

22

u/ecc_dg Vin Scully 12h ago

Hypocrisy is fundamental to the movement!

5

u/TheGoatPurdy 12h ago

Does nobody here remember superbowl commercials? Sexually suggestive commercials existed long before Sydney Sweeney

20

u/SacrificeFlyGirl Los Angeles Dodgers 11h ago

I remember the GoDaddy, Victoria’s Secret, and Carl’s Jr. commercials and yes, they were weird too. But there’s something about a woman pushing her naked tits up with footballs while peddling a gambling platform and another woman writhing around on the ground in a catsuit peddling boner pills that just doesn’t sit right with me.

The American consumer culture is pretty much very simple.

Example Ads by Aaron Judge or the American sponsors: Credit Cards, Aaron Judge shirt off Polo Cologne, Alcohol, Trucks, Fast Food, Half Naked Women and Sports Betting, Relgious, Hospital Marketing, Insurance, Prescription Drugs.

Example Ads by Ohtani or the Japanese Sponsors/Market: Green Tea, New Balance, Churu cat treats, UNIQLO, skin care, Luxury Cars, Video games and Insurance. (No Hospitals ads, because they have socialized health care.)

u/UCanDoNEthing4_30sec Shohei Ohtani 5h ago

Part of the issue is also that it’s the same commercial over and over again, so you’ll see those Megan Fox and Sydney Sweeney commercials multiple times during a single game. If it were just once a game, maybe it wouldn’t be as annoying. But I don’t need to keep hearing Sydney Sweeney talking about guys betting on the color of her underwear or whatever the F she’s saying.

Pete Rose should be let into the HoF at this rate. Embarrassing ass betting ads featuring current and former athletes makes me physically sick. Being addicted to gambling is tragic.

12

u/ted_cruzs_micr0pen15 Shohei Ohtani 11h ago

Yeah. I mean I would rather the league go back to, like, not ruining the game by partnering with gambling companies—then the hypocrisy is gone and Rose is still out.

That being said, it’s worse for Rose. He was gambling in the team he managed, which even now would be a big deal if caught like he wasz

He bet on his team while managing the team and raped a teenager but sure

4

u/a_smart_brane Andrew Toles 11h ago

No, MLB knew that Pete fucked a 14 year-old girl. So all parties agreed that Pete doesn’t get into the HOF, and MLB doesn’t let out that Pete fucked a 14 year old.

I think if Pete had been less of an a-hole and showed even a modicum of contrition, he would’ve gone in.

2

u/VeniceDrumGuy 11h ago

In Rose’s case, rightly or wrongly, I think the lack of contrition and the betting on his on team will keep him out forever.

I actually think the case for keeping “Shoeless” Joe out is stronger. For as hard as Field of Dreams worked to rehab his image and you can argue based on performance that he didn’t throw games, the fact remains that he accepted money from gamblers intending to fix the Series and that completely undermines the integrity of the game.

I personally they both should be let in and on their plaques, you have a paragraph that mentions their faults and what it was they did. I don’t think their faults should be whitewashed away, but they shouldn’t be kept out either. I think the same should go for steroid era guys like Bonds, McGwire, Sosa, and Clemens. It seems like the majority of the league was using something and those guys happened to be the best. If you keep those guys out, I think you have to keep everyone out from the steroid era and that would be ridiculous.

2

u/silly_scoundrel Kiké Hernández 10h ago

All of these betting ads and ads for nsfw shit need to go. Last post season every other ad was for wiener pills or gambling all of your shit away. I haven't seen the pill ads but this year I've seen Sydney Sweeney way too much. Really annoys the whole family, nobody wants to see her and even her voice is annoying. But a lot of kids watch Baseball (including my little brother and me when I was a kid) so it's real weird to show to children, and the betting stuff is a bad influence on kids (I'm a senior in hs and I know way too many teens who are already in a mountain of debt from using mommy's credit card on betting for sports they don't even watch).

This post season though I've only gotten baseball related ads and old clips and stadium stuff. It's more enjoyable to watch and sometimes I'll sit through the ads rather than walk away for something else.

If you go to a PG rated movie at the theater, all the previews shown have to be PG rated too, for that audience.

A baseball game is like a PG rated movie, it’s family friendly. So, why are these commercials allowed? I think these commercials should only be aired after 10:00 PM.

I thought this was just a Sling.tv thing, but are you guys saying this crap is also being broadcast OTA???

I’m sure he has no issue with how his president conducts himself, though. All these religious nuts are the biggest hypocrites.

5

u/theGreatwasLate Adrian Gonzalez 12h ago

The only thing they’re religious about is their pockets.

u/kingofmymachine Decoy 12h ago

Why are we pretending like we dont remember the era of carls jr commercials with models?

7

u/shizbox06 Los Angeles Dodgers 12h ago

Plenty of people thought that shit was absurd.

We also remember the Swedish bikini team and girls fighting over “tastes great vs less filling” innuendo before that. It’s all tasteless, absurd and wonderful at the same time.

19

u/BigRedFury 12h ago

Those commercials only existed because Carl (I forget who was actually CEO was a big time creeper who specifically wanted hot chicks eating hamburgers.

Not that it makes it any better, better but most of the time those were regional commercials that didn't air with nearly the same frequency of Novig.

As a married guy, I've just learned to make it obvious I'm staring at my phone during commercial breaks during these playoffs.

ETA: Never underestimate the power of a lady to notice how closely you're paying paying attention when there's another lady on the TV.

3

u/Materasu1224 Roki Sasaki 12h ago

Yup, Andrew Puzder was the creep who was suuuper adamant about keeping them. Carl hated them.

2

u/StealthRUs Jackie Robinson 12h ago

Campaign ads next

4

u/SMD913 11h ago

Feels good to hear someone of note say this. Felt like I would be screaming in the void if I brought this up

4

u/HippoExtension5640 10h ago

Yeah like the fucking man scape add where it shows a naked man shaving his nuts that was great tv while me and my daughters watch fucking bullshit

3

u/Cmorethecat 10h ago

I had to explain to my kids when they were elementary school age what erectile dysfunction is… Because of baseball commercials. Now we are inundated with commercials encouraging viewers to gamble. Do better, MLB.

4

u/louie3723jr 7h ago

Lol true it’s always awkward when the megan fox or Sydney Sweeney ad pops up when you’re with family

5

u/AceMariner1 2h ago

How about knocking off all the stupid polymarket nonsense, which is sports gambling, which should be illegal

4

u/Aggressive-Video7321 Shohei Ohtani 2h ago

The gambling is far worse and more destructive.

13

u/Quick-Budget6813 12h ago edited 12h ago

This is the right wing bro culture we’ve voted in. Gambling and sex … for your kids!

6

u/Ceeti19 10h ago

It out of control. On top of the lude ads, I saw percentages on top of receivers trying to promote in game betting. They show the percentages before games for who will hit Home runs. They've sold their souls.

5

u/stillinform 8h ago

The commercials are disturbing. Not suitable for children.

7

u/ligray 12h ago

Gambling and blue pill ads have been the norm for sports but when I saw them from sports broadcasts as a kid, I thought it was just for general health or something considering it always just showed old men laughing all the time and said to consult a doctor.

8

u/TheBotchedLobotomy Kiké Hernández 12h ago

Yeah the only difference now is its megan fox in a body suit instead of old men out at a fancy dinner with their wife lol

9

u/FlobiusHole Orel Hershiser 11h ago

The gambling ads are way worse than whatever other ads he’s talking about. That shit is out of hand and is cancer to society in a way that a half naked woman is not.

18

u/HeartyBeefBarley 12h ago

The president they all worship is a pedo

3

u/Dodger_Blue17 Joe Davis 12h ago

Sucks when I’m watching at work and those damn ads come on. Make people think I’m watching something else.

3

u/Wren_2738 12h ago

I have to toggle to another channel. I am sick of it. They need to check in with their marketing team. Disgusting and disgraceful.

3

u/JellyBearJam Yoshinobu Yamamoto 12h ago

Young men are especially vulnerable to gambling ads. And once it starts, it’s hard to kick. And I get AC’s point about younger kids and the suggestive ads. That’s everywhere, but yes, it would be nice for the younger kids to be able to watch games early.

3

u/Rowbehr23 11h ago

What? I’m confuse because I don’t stick around for the commercials. That’s my break to go get my snacks and a cold one.

3

u/lelio98 11h ago

And get rid of the gambling ads!

3

u/OnlyKey5675 Alex Vesia 10h ago

I'm so glad I never got the gambling bug. It does nothing for me.

I was at a bar the other day here in LA and there were some 20 something guys talking about better and for some reason I thought betting was still illegal in CA. They went on to explain to me that its not via predication markets. Then one of them showed me how to do it etc and his betting history. He was all in the red. Thousands of losses. His friends were the same (according to him).

3

u/PatoLoco310 9h ago

Tired of the gambling and horror movie ads.

3

u/HeavensRoyalty Decoy 4h ago

Seriously and they're even talking about raping women in the fucking damn commercials. This should not be happening

5

u/Kevinator24 Kiké Hernández 8h ago

To preface, I’m not a prude by any means. However in this specific instance, I was getting the Sydney Sweeney “just sports” ad every…fucking…commercial break last few games. It just got exhausting and I can see why Alex is upset.

7

u/FatSteveWasted9 Los Angeles Dodgers 9h ago

Couldn’t care less about sexuality in advertising. People fuck,it’s kind of how and why we’re here.

I do however care greatly about the gambling ads. Kids definitely don’t need to see that shit. Hell, adults don’t need to see that shit. It creates degenerates, and we have enough of those already.

5

u/False_Donkey_498 6h ago

Your kids love these ads as much as you do.

5

u/dansFC1 2025 WS MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto 12h ago

Why are they more upset about the promiscuous women than they are about the predatory gambling apps that are already being proven to cause harm to young men especially?

5

u/FreedomCommercial451 Los Angeles Dodgers 12h ago

As the Dodgers’ baseball optometrist, I will prescribe him some horse blinders.

5

u/dominicsantini 12h ago

Wait until he sees the Gravité ads.

3

u/discerningdm Will Smith 12h ago

These are actually funny though. It’s clearly just models in a weird Las Vegas hotel room - creepy and off putting but kind of silly?

3

u/VersaceSamurai Joe Davis 11h ago

Yeah what does cologne have to do with saving one self for marriage lmao

10

u/hamHamAlucard Los Angeles Dodgers 13h ago

Scary movie ads are worse IMO.

Another AC win. I’m getting old and I’m a dad now, but damnit that back to back Sweeney and then viagra commercials - that’s too much, man.

2

u/felixthecat15 12h ago

Completely agree. I have to monitor the commercials now.

2

u/Batman_Forever Los Angeles Dodgers 12h ago

I've been watching the Canadian feed to get away from the gambling/midterm ads 😆

2

u/burritolist Joe Kelly 12h ago

Lemme see what ads yall talkin about 👀

2

u/copyrightname Vin Scully 11h ago

He’s a legend for this! I have to watch so many viagra ads, Sydney Sweeney side boobs, and non stop betting ads while watching baseball and I am not the market for any of those ads!!

2

u/DodgerFanArd24 2025 World Series Champions 10h ago

Lmao.

2

u/futuristicflapper Kiké Hernández 9h ago

I’m so over not necessarily because of the content but because they’re practically the only damn ads you see. I’ve seen Sydney Sweeney more times in the past couple weeks than in the entire time she’s been acting.

2

u/DesertShazzy 9h ago

I don't wanna agree with this godsquad dude but I do. It's all betting and beer and fried beige food. I mute every ad and check my phone during the hundreds of breaks. Then squeeze in some baseball between that stolen base 'brought to you by'...

2

u/Electronic_Screen387 8h ago

Honestly fair, between the political shit, the boner pills, and the gambling ads there's really nothing else being advertised during that is theoretically an event for the entire family.

2

u/Infinite-Floor-5242 8h ago

100% agreement with Alex Call, didn't see that coming. I'd throw in political ads too. So many of them loudly reference child sexual abuse. I usually only stream so it's jarring seeing the state of ads nowadays.

2

u/Different-Pipe-3182 Kiké Hernández 8h ago

I literally cannot stand seeing that Sydney Sweeney ad just there in everyone’s faces on public television. I already gotta deal with AI porn ads coming up when I exit a stream, and don’t even get me started on all the gambling ones too

2

u/CabbageStockExchange Player To Be Named Later 7h ago

Adjacent to this. I’m absolutely tired of the constant gambling ads

2

u/youareallnuts Los Angeles Dodgers 6h ago

Since Alex Call is asexual who is the father of "his" kids?

2

u/GalloNegr0 Joe Blanton 5h ago

He’s the one that hates gays right

2

u/Ickiiis Mookie Betts 2h ago

I have a bigger issue with what the ad is about. Gambling. Titties never hurt no body. Gambling on the other hand… yikes

2

u/spookshowbaby1234 2h ago

sex sells baby

2

u/Armaced Mookie Betts 1h ago

I’m far more offended by the countless, relentless ads for gambling.
