Pain in throat

Thumbnail

So for the past two days, I have had pain in my throat specifically worse on my left side, which originally made me nervous because I have a history of having an abscess on that side of my throat on day one the pain was really bad gave me really bad headaches and made me really nauseous day two the pain wasn’t as bad but the morning of day two some bloody mucus came from my mouth. I’ll add a photo but I’m just debating on what I should do. I can’t tell if this is just a sore throat or if I have an abscess coming back or what

Finger turned black and it hurts

Hello, my grandmother is 60 years old. Recently, her ring finger has become numb and turned black. She also feels pain in the finger, as if it had been caught in a door. It has been like this for a week. What could be the cause, and what should we do?

Chronic dry, "riverbed"-like, scaly skin on feet/ankles + occasional swelling + cold feet

• Upvotes

Started ~4 years ago, dry/scaly patches on top of my feet, then around the ankles the following year.

Two years ago it got quite bad and started spreading onto my legs a year ago.

No new shoes, mostly wear open flip-flops at home, so friction/new material isn't the trigger.

Was given OTC hydrocortisone 3 years ago, which helped a little but hasn't resolved it.

Using urea ointment, Vaseline and Shea butter to manage dryness and some occlusion.

This past year I've also noticed occasional swelling in my feet, and dry patches now spreading up the outer sides of my lower legs/shins.

My feet also get very cold once I'm in bed at night.

No known underlying conditions. I've seen the GP twice for this over the years.

Trying to figure out if this sounds more like eczema, stasis dermatitis/venous insufficiency, a circulation issue, or something else (thyroid?) before my next appointment, so I know what to ask for.

Photos attached — my phone's camera seems to smooth some of the texture out in person, so it may look worse/different in real life.

Thanks

Splint slip? NSFW

I had a septoplasty yesterday and I can see my splint on my right side plus I can feel it in the tip of my nose on the right side. I left a VM at the ENT for their AI system to hopefully call me back. Is this something I should worry about?

Mri suggested pectoral sarcoma, pet scan suggested lymphoma, and now we’re back at sarcoma oncology

I hope I’m putting this is in the proper place so I’m sorry if it’s not. I’m hoping someone with medical experience, particularly in oncology, radiology, or sarcoma, can help me understand what’s happening with my husband’s case. We’re still waiting for his biopsy results, and I’m confused by how the suspected diagnosis seems to keep changing. Initially, my husband’s mri led his doctor to say the mass was probably a pectoral sarcoma. He then had a pet scan and the radiologist’s impression changed. The report stated “Approximately 7.1 x 3.2 x 5.5 cm FDG-avid soft tissue mass in the right chest wall invading the pleura via the first right intercostal space. Given the lack of destructive osseous invasion of the surrounding bones, lymphoma is more likely than sarcoma, but difficult to ascertain.” The report also mentioned mildly FDG-avid right subpectoral and internal mammary lymph nodes, considered most likely metastatic disease, as well as mediastinal and axillary lymph nodes that could represent either inflammation or metastatic disease. After the pet scan, his doctor spoke with the radiologist and told us he agreed with the assessment that lymphoma was more likely than sarcoma. My husband then had his biopsy at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. We haven’t received the pathology results yet, and Dana farber told us they haven’t received the results either. However, his upcoming appointments are all scheduled with Dana farber Center for sarcoma  and bone oncology. So the sequence has been: MRI → doctor suspects pectoral sarcoma → PET scan → radiologist favors lymphoma → doctor agrees with radiologist → biopsy at Dana-Farber → appointments with sarcoma oncology while we’re still waiting for the biopsy results. I understand that neither an mri nor a pet scan can definitively diagnose the type of cancer, and that the biopsy is needed to establish what this mass actually is. What I’m struggling to understand is why we’re seemingly back to sarcoma after the pet scan shifted the suspicion toward lymphoma. Could this simply be because the original referral to sarcoma oncology was made before the pet  scan findings were discussed? Could the two hospitals not have fully coordinated the referral information? Or might the tumor’s location and appearance be enough to warrant a sarcoma consultation even though lymphoma was considered more likely?

Trouble catching breath

I M(20) have experienced multiple episodes where I will try to yawn or catch my breath and I’m unable to but can still kinda breath normally but need that one breath. Tonight it started like it usually does but this time I felt a weird sensation in my chest and ended up throwing up which after that it had kinda dissipated. I went to a walk in clinic about this around a year ago and they asked me if I was stressed to which I said yes (I’m a 20 year old college student who works 2 jobs) and they played it off to the stress and nothing else. Usually I can control these episodes pretty well but tonight was just a really rough one and I noticed when I was feeling my chest it felt like I could feel 2 heartbeats. Really would like some advice on what to do with this because I’m just tired of dealing with it.

I've been struggling with extreme fatigue, not wanting to do anything anymore because i'm just too tired. I had a baby a year ago. But this has been going on longer. Been having weird spells of feeling dizzy and like, I'm gonna faint. And i just cant remember anything anymore.. im 24. Coffee doesn't work at all, only thing that has worked is a skinny white lotus, but I cant drink that all the time ha. I have endometriosis also.

What could this be?

Throat pain & voice hoarseness for a year.

Since October 17 of last year, I have had a sore throat. I have had hoarseness with it and difficulty swallowing. I went to the G.I. and they ruled out LPR and other things they think it’s probably a nerve issue. The only G.I. test I didn’t get done was a pH study but both my ENT abd GI agree it looks good other than it being red.

And has referred me to swallowing and speech therapy.

I’m going to my regular physician on Friday and I’m going to ask what we could look for there because everybody is at a loss. I’m not getting any better and you can tell with my voice that something’s wrong.

Any suggestions or tests I should ask my doctor to perform? My ENT suggested rheumatologist, but I have to test positive for an autoimmune disorder for a rheumatologist to see me. I am thinking of asking for a test for Candida. I have a couple mouth sores that have been there for a year too as well as angular cheilitis that wont go away. It will let go away for a little while then it always comes back. I have to use zinc oxide every night or it comes back.

I’ve been getting canker sores every day, but they go away within a few hours

typically about an hour into my work shift a canker sore will start, within 6 hours it’ll get progressively worse, then pop..
this has been happening nearly everyday for the past 2 weeks ITS REALLY ANNOYING and it leaves so many sore spots in my mouth. I’m not even sure if they’re canker sores if they come and go this fast, but I don’t know what to do about them besides gargle salt water and baking soda- but if I’m at work there’s literally nothing I can do. and idk if it’s stress related or what gahhh

Posterior Nosebleeds with no explanation

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Anyone have posterior nosebleeds with a slow leak rather then a lot of blood.

It’s like blood is in saliva. Have gone to ENT and they didn’t see a bleeding source, had sinus x ray everything clear but I know the blood is coming from the back of the nose down the throat because I spit it out and it’s only a posterior bleed.

Can an ENT doctor cauterize without seeing the source?
