Mri suggested pectoral sarcoma, pet scan suggested lymphoma, and now we’re back at sarcoma oncology

• Upvotes

I hope I’m putting this is in the proper place so I’m sorry if it’s not. I’m hoping someone with medical experience, particularly in oncology, radiology, or sarcoma, can help me understand what’s happening with my husband’s case. We’re still waiting for his biopsy results, and I’m confused by how the suspected diagnosis seems to keep changing. Initially, my husband’s mri led his doctor to say the mass was probably a pectoral sarcoma. He then had a pet scan and the radiologist’s impression changed. The report stated “Approximately 7.1 x 3.2 x 5.5 cm FDG-avid soft tissue mass in the right chest wall invading the pleura via the first right intercostal space. Given the lack of destructive osseous invasion of the surrounding bones, lymphoma is more likely than sarcoma, but difficult to ascertain.” The report also mentioned mildly FDG-avid right subpectoral and internal mammary lymph nodes, considered most likely metastatic disease, as well as mediastinal and axillary lymph nodes that could represent either inflammation or metastatic disease. After the pet scan, his doctor spoke with the radiologist and told us he agreed with the assessment that lymphoma was more likely than sarcoma. My husband then had his biopsy at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. We haven’t received the pathology results yet, and Dana farber told us they haven’t received the results either. However, his upcoming appointments are all scheduled with Dana farber Center for sarcoma  and bone oncology. So the sequence has been: MRI → doctor suspects pectoral sarcoma → PET scan → radiologist favors lymphoma → doctor agrees with radiologist → biopsy at Dana-Farber → appointments with sarcoma oncology while we’re still waiting for the biopsy results. I understand that neither an mri nor a pet scan can definitively diagnose the type of cancer, and that the biopsy is needed to establish what this mass actually is. What I’m struggling to understand is why we’re seemingly back to sarcoma after the pet scan shifted the suspicion toward lymphoma. Could this simply be because the original referral to sarcoma oncology was made before the pet  scan findings were discussed? Could the two hospitals not have fully coordinated the referral information? Or might the tumor’s location and appearance be enough to warrant a sarcoma consultation even though lymphoma was considered more likely?

Trouble catching breath

• Upvotes

I M(20) have experienced multiple episodes where I will try to yawn or catch my breath and I’m unable to but can still kinda breath normally but need that one breath. Tonight it started like it usually does but this time I felt a weird sensation in my chest and ended up throwing up which after that it had kinda dissipated. I went to a walk in clinic about this around a year ago and they asked me if I was stressed to which I said yes (I’m a 20 year old college student who works 2 jobs) and they played it off to the stress and nothing else. Usually I can control these episodes pretty well but tonight was just a really rough one and I noticed when I was feeling my chest it felt like I could feel 2 heartbeats. Really would like some advice on what to do with this because I’m just tired of dealing with it.

My mother has been dealing with a gum issue for 4 weeks and the swelling and pain have returned

My mother has been having problems with her gums for the past 4 weeks and I am looking for some advice on what this could be

Initially we thought it was an infection so we took her to a dentist but the dentist said it was not an infection and could be caused by dryness or acidity in the stomach

They also asked whether she was taking any medication or had diabetes

My mother said she could see what looked like pus in her gums but the dentist told her that it was actually her gum tissue peeling off

The dentist prescribed some medication and advised her to avoid spicy and salty foods and eat sweet foods instead

She followed the treatment and her condition improved significantly and she was doing well for the past 2 weeks

However this morning the swelling returned and she is now experiencing really severe pain

I am worried because she seemed to be recovering and now the problem has come back again

Should we visit another dentist for a second opinion or consult a different specialist

I've been struggling with extreme fatigue, not wanting to do anything anymore because i'm just too tired. I had a baby a year ago. But this has been going on longer. Been having weird spells of feeling dizzy and like, I'm gonna faint. And i just cant remember anything anymore.. im 24. Coffee doesn't work at all, only thing that has worked is a skinny white lotus, but I cant drink that all the time ha. I have endometriosis also.

What could this be?

Throat pain & voice hoarseness for a year.

Since October 17 of last year, I have had a sore throat. I have had hoarseness with it and difficulty swallowing. I went to the G.I. and they ruled out LPR and other things they think it’s probably a nerve issue. The only G.I. test I didn’t get done was a pH study but both my ENT abd GI agree it looks good other than it being red.

And has referred me to swallowing and speech therapy.

I’m going to my regular physician on Friday and I’m going to ask what we could look for there because everybody is at a loss. I’m not getting any better and you can tell with my voice that something’s wrong.

Any suggestions or tests I should ask my doctor to perform? My ENT suggested rheumatologist, but I have to test positive for an autoimmune disorder for a rheumatologist to see me. I am thinking of asking for a test for Candida. I have a couple mouth sores that have been there for a year too as well as angular cheilitis that wont go away. It will let go away for a little while then it always comes back. I have to use zinc oxide every night or it comes back.

I’ve been getting canker sores every day, but they go away within a few hours

typically about an hour into my work shift a canker sore will start, within 6 hours it’ll get progressively worse, then pop..
this has been happening nearly everyday for the past 2 weeks ITS REALLY ANNOYING and it leaves so many sore spots in my mouth. I’m not even sure if they’re canker sores if they come and go this fast, but I don’t know what to do about them besides gargle salt water and baking soda- but if I’m at work there’s literally nothing I can do. and idk if it’s stress related or what gahhh

Posterior Nosebleeds with no explanation

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Anyone have posterior nosebleeds with a slow leak rather then a lot of blood.

It’s like blood is in saliva. Have gone to ENT and they didn’t see a bleeding source, had sinus x ray everything clear but I know the blood is coming from the back of the nose down the throat because I spit it out and it’s only a posterior bleed.

Can an ENT doctor cauterize without seeing the source?

Mild cold symptoms (loss of smell/taste/congested sinuses) and joint paint for 1 month

32 male, 175lb, no known preexisting conditions.

Past month ive had a very diminished sense of smell, taste and have a slightly congested sinuses, not extreme but I can feel it and have a slight congested sick voice. It feels like I have some slight clogged snot behind my sinues i cant clear. My upper right shoulder joint area also has general pain / aches during movements. No other joint pain.

Any guesses or ideas what this could be? If I get a cold it generally clears up quick and Ive never been this long with this mild sickness, in combination with the right arm joint pain.

Will take any advice, literally any, to help figure out the cause of my mid-back pain

For the last month or so, I've been experiencing severe mid-back pain when I wake up in the morning. It is now radiating towards my stomach.

I assumed I needed a new mattress. But even with a brand new mattress, I am still in so much pain. I had a CT scan in August for something else, and there was nothing on the scan that would be a cause of my pain. My sleeping "posture" is sleeping on my back.

To describe the pain - my mid back feels really stiff and if I move suddenly, there can be a sharp pain. It feels like there is a tight band wrapped around my ribs.

I will take any and all insight. thank you!

Possible tetnus

i need help with something. Last Wednesday I stepped on one of those spiky headbands while i was cleaning my room.It went an inch and a half into my foot into two spots. Didn't think anything of it. I disinfected it and tried to not walk on it. Then on saturday i was running errands and noticed some stiffness and pain in my jaw. Again was very busy and didn't think much of it. That night i was woken up probably 10+ times with the most excruciating pain in my jaw. i felt like my jaw was broken, it hurt for my teeth to touch ,it hurt for my mouth to open, it hurt to move my jaw at all. I thought it was because i was sleeping weird on my pillow so i slept on my back. When i woke up i felt like i had my wisdom teeth out again. I couldnt open or close my mouth all the way and i couldn't eat because my jaw wouldn't close. I told my parents and they mentioned tetnus to me. I haven't gotten a shot since 2015 ( 11 years) and started getting worried. i didn't want to go to the doctor because i knew how rare it was so i just watched for more symptoms. Monday morning comes, i wake up with a super stiff neck and pain going down the back of my neck. I called the nurse line on the back of my insurance card and they said to go to the ER immidently. This is where my problem lies. I went to the ER and after being triaged the NP on duty comes in my room. After me barely explaining what happened to me he cuts me off and tells me my jaw and foot aren't related. He then does a very quick examination and asks if i've been coughing or around anyone who has been. I say no. He asked me like 3 more times and i said no every time. He then tells me i have a viral upper respiratory tract infection and gives me a booster shot along with antibiotics. I expressed concern for tetanus and he tells me " i've been working here 10+ years and i've never seen tetanus" and that was the only reason he gave me for not doing a tetanus workup. I was extremely worried and tried to get a second opinion and was dismissed again. I'm not stupid, don't tend to overact typically but i was truly worried. I can admit now i most likely don't have tetnus but none of my symptoms have improved and i was given nothing for my jaw and neck, even though i expressed i hadn't eaten since sunday. I can only still eat apple sauce or smoothies. Heat and anti-inflammatories haven't helped. I am trying to get into my primary care physicians for some relief but am i right to feel extremely dismissed and mis diagnosed??? What should i do??
