Correction: It will be 57 days, over 8 weeks from my consultation appointment with the surgeon for the diagnosed BCC (from March 2024) on my forehead.
Is this proposed timeline reasonable for a large forehead BCC near the skull?
Biopsy-confirmed basal cell carcinoma, present since March 2024 on forehead above eyebrow.
Timeline: The lesion was approximately 5 mm in March 2024 and has grown to approximately 3–4 cm. CT showed smooth underlying skull bone without definite invasion. The lesion is not mobile relative to the skull.
Symptoms: Ulceration, crusting, burning skin sensation, and throbbing pain.
Treatment tried: Biopsy; surgical excision is planned.
Relevant background and proposed treatment: The surgeon plans wide local excision with assessment of the deep periosteal margin. If the periosteum is involved, a margin of bone may be removed and reconstruction delayed pending final pathology, with Integra or Biodesign placed over the wound. If the periosteum is clear, immediate reconstruction, potentially including a skin graft, is planned.
The forehead lesion is large and covered with an adhesive bandage. The bandage spans much of the forehead above the eyebrow. When the bandage is lifted, the lesion appears as an irregular, ulcerated area with dark crusting and exposed, moist red tissue, surrounded by inflamed, pink skin. It hurts a lot! Burning sensation. I have actual pain on the front orbital area of my skull from this diagnosed Basal cell carcinoma.
My consultation was September 15 and surgery is tentatively scheduled for November 18.
Questions: Is this timeline generally reasonable given the lesion's growth, size, symptoms, and proximity to the skull? Would requesting an earlier date or cancellation-list placement be appropriate?
