Over 60,000 trees have been planted in the last three decades. This reforestation partnership with Delaware Nature Society has resulted in over 107 acres of former agricultural fields surrounding the original Middle Run forest converted into new, young forest.
Middle Run Natural Area is the largest of the Countyโs 251 parks and parcels, measuring 890 acres that stretch from Paper Mill Road, to Polly Drummond Hill Road, to Possum Park Road, nearly reaching Kirkwood Highway. Hikers and bikers enjoy the 17 dirt trails that wind through 15 miles of property. Birders appreciate the 227 different types of birds that frequent the area, along with white-tailed deer, rabbits, raccoons, red foxes, and turtles.

News Delaware Department of Elections received letter with white powder today (10/15)
From their FB page:
Today, October 15, 2026 at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Delaware Department of Elections (DOE) received and opened a letter which was discovered to contain a white powdery substance. Staff members followed security and USPS postal instructions on handling suspicious mail. The mail piece was isolated, staff members were decontaminated and evacuated, HVAC system was shut down, and law enforcement, state and federal partners have arrived at the office and are conducting the investigation and testing.
All election offices statewide have sent their non-essential state employees home in an abundance of caution.
Additional information will be provided to the public as the response continues.

MOT New Castle County Pool Inspection โ Questions About Vinyl Picket Fencing, Mesh Backing & Wraparound Porch
Iโm located in Middletown, Delaware, and recently had an inground fiberglass swimming pool installed. Iโm preparing for my final New Castle County pool inspection and hoping to hear from homeowners who have gone through the process.
Question 1: Existing White Vinyl Picket Fence
I currently have a 48-inch white vinyl picket fence surrounding the pool area, with approximately 3-inch gaps between the pickets. The horizontal rails are less than 45 inches apart.
Iโm considering adding black PVC-coated welded-wire mesh backing to approximately 125 linear feet of the existing fence instead of replacing everything.
Has anyone in New Castle County passed their final pool inspection with mesh backing on an existing vinyl picket fence?
Was the mesh installed on the inside (pool side) or outside of the fence?
What mesh opening size and fastening method were used?
Did the inspector approve it without requiring additional changes?
How much did you pay to have the mesh professionally installed?
Question 2: Raised Wraparound Porch
My home also has a wraparound porch that is approximately 24 inches above ground level, with a 38-inch-high railing.
The porch is adjacent to the pool area, and the existing fencing separates the outside access areas from the pool. Someone coming up the exterior porch stairs cannot simply walk into the pool area without crossing a barrier.
Iโm trying to understand how New Castle County evaluates an elevated porch and its railing when it is adjacent to or forms part of a pool enclosure.
Has anyone passed a final pool inspection with a raised wraparound porch and a railing shorter than 48 inches?
Does the county measure the required barrier height from the porch floor or the ground below?
Does it make a difference if the porch is elevated approximately 2 feet above ground?
If the porch railing is considered part of the pool barrier, did the inspector require additional railing height, screening, or other modifications?
Did anyone receive approval based on the layout preventing direct access to the pool from the exterior stairs?
Iโm specifically interested in firsthand experiences from New Castle County homeowners, especially anyone inspected in 2025 or 2026.
Iโm trying to find a solution that meets the countyโs requirements without unnecessarily replacing existing fencing or rebuilding the porch railing.
Any experiences, photos of approved setups, or recommendations for local contractors would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Cannabis Dispensaries?
Can anyone point me in the right direction for a dispensary? I've lived here for 2 years and some change and I'm so tired of getting absolute reggie everywhere.
We've been travelling to NJ for it, but the dispo we go to recently has not had any sativas except for Garden State Exotix. Trash. Everywhere in DE is an absolute joke. Does anyone have any old standbys they frequently visit? We live in Wilmington for reference. I appreciate any and all help!!
