Elections Election Day, get out and vote Tuesday November 3, 2026
As always, this is an informational post. Please don't use this post to promote parties or candidates.
Make sure your vote is counted.
If you are mailing in your ballot, there are some developments at USPS. Please consider mailing earlier than usual.
- Supreme Court rules the Postal Service can’t be sued, even when mail is intentionally not delivered
- Regional Optimization: Mail sent from locations more than 50 miles from a regional processing center may take longer, as end-of-day collections are reduced, causing mail to wait until the next day for transport. Source
An ongoing issue with USPS should be monitored closely. Please keep this in mind so that an alternative plan can be made.
U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani’s July 25 ruling that the USPS can’t refuse to deliver mail ballots to states that refuse to comply with the U.S. Justice Department’s (DOJ) demands for their unredacted voter lists will remain in place. SourceOn July 28: The United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia affirmed a lower court’s decision, holding that a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of Trump’s March 2026 edict was premature because the administration hasn’t executed it yet. Source
A Massachusetts federal judge has repeatedly blocked the U.S. Postal Service from implementing President Donald Trump's mail-in voting executive order ahead of the midterms. Now that the injunction applies nationwide, the DOJ is telling the U.S. Supreme Court it has all it needs to swiftly issue a stay. Source
The SAVE America Act is still in play as of July 26 and may affect voting. Please consider getting all of your paperwork in order. Note that it can take several weeks to get documents on marriage and legal name changes. The PA Real ID is not compliant with the Save America Act. Update As of August 12, the Senate has gone on recess without passing the SAVE America Act.

Crime A man waited nine years in prison for his lawyer to file a two-page brief. In Pennsylvania, there’s no rule against it.
Pennsylvania promises legal help to those who say they were unfairly convicted of a crime. Yet, some incarcerated people are left waiting years for their lawyers to act.
The Inquirer and ProPublica previously reported that Pa. lets lawyers resolve cases quickly using a practice that is discouraged in several states: filing “no-merit” letters, also known as Finley letters, urging the judges to reject their clients’ handwritten or typed claims. In Philadelphia, dozens who had received such letters later had their convictions or sentences overturned based on issues their lawyers had rejected or overlooked.
But the problems with the system go deeper than that: The state’s loose rules and its failure to fund post-conviction work have made the type of breakdown one man encountered a recurring feature of this system.
Nolan O’Neal said he spent years trying to convince the attorney assigned to handle his claim under Pa.’s Post-Conviction Relief Act to track down evidence that could clear him of a shooting. After nine years and 41 extensions on the case, the attorney filed a two-page petition addressing just one of the many issues O’Neal had wanted him to raise.
“It is a daunting and exhausting task to navigate this legal process and be heard,” O’Neal said in an interview. “We at times even have to fight the attorneys who are supposed to represent us.”
By filing public records requests with courts serving all 67 Pennsylvania counties and analyzing a decade of court dockets, a Philadelphia Inquirer and ProPublica investigation found that the system Pennsylvania set up to protect the right to counsel instead allows, or even encourages, shoddy representation.
Read more about what both news organizations found.
Attorney Scott Galloway, who represented O’Neal, said that his ethical obligation to confidentiality prevented him from commenting on the case. Judge George A. Pagano, who granted Galloway the extensions on the case, also declined to comment.

Infrastructure Water Authority is trying to charge me $800 dollars for 30,000 gallons of water I did not use
Just what the title says. No one has lived in this townhouse for just about a year and in that year I have the water shut off on my end so no water is being evaporated or any of that other bull crap. So they are claiming that this month, I have used 30,000 gallons of water equal to 450.65 and a sewer bill of $438.65... The water bill I would understand if there was a leak somewhere. But the kicker is that they are charging me for the SEWER bill for the same amount of gallons. I have triple checked that zero water is running on my end going into the house. I have let the water run then shut the valve off and the water stopped running. there is nothing wrong with the valve.
I went to the Water Authority office and the lady (who was less than unhelpful said I must have a leak somewhere on my end, toilet evaporation is a thing and blah blah blah. I think I would have noticed the place being flooded by 30,000 gallons of water. It's also a Townhome so my neighbors would have contacted me if they were getting water soaked through their walls.
Am I insane or am I getting screwed? I really don't want to pay a $889.07 for one month of water and sewer I didn't use. Oh and the previous months were all like around $285 for both water and sewer even though everything was shut off.
Should I go to my local reps office and complain? Do I call the cops? I'm totally lost on what to do.

DMV Moving to Pennsylvania and looking for a car. Any good recommendations or advice?
So pretty much the title, I’m getting out of the military and moving to Pennsylvania. I need a car and I was thinking on getting one in Facebook marketplace, but I don’t know any of the process or how different it is from California, or if it’s better to get one somewhere specifically. P.S. I’m moving to Reading specifically.
