Cuteness Overload Bestie's in timeout. Spa time goes on 😂

Peaches got a little too bossy during apple time and kept chasing Mochi away from the food, so I put her back in the cage for a bit.

Meanwhile, Sweetie was perfectly happy getting head scratches while Mochi napped on my hand. Even Bells came over to join the cuddle session.

Peaches, on the other hand, was NOT happy about missing out 😂

Guess Sweetie's afternoon spa doesn't close just because her bestie is in timeout.

Advice Rehoming advice

I'm rehoming my friend, I've had him for over 10 years, and I'm currently just unable to sleep. Constant crying.

I never thought the day would come, but I live with family and my grandparent is currently suffering from alzheimer which is making our home situation unsafe. I've not been able to let my bird out as much as he used to, he also gets super scared of my grandparent which never happened before, and I think it's really gotten to him because I can't go near his cage anymore without getting attacked. He went from a bird that wanted to cuddle all day to one who won't even let me touch him anymore, and so far the vet says his health is fine.

In my mind this is the best decision, because it makes sense that he deserves a better place. Hopefully with other birds, so he can thrive and have his social needs met properly. But emotionally I can't deal with it. My family is happy "to get rid" of him.

I guess. IRLi don't have support, and I am really hoping for advice, if this is really the best option, or if I'm making a big mistake. I'm scared he'll be worse off but I feel like he lost a lot of quality of life in the past months at home. I'm aware this is reddit and I'll probably regret posting this

Advice Advice on sudden aggression.

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hello! This is my 4 year old Green Cheek conure Millie. Don't be fooled by her cuteness!

I'm having an issue with sudden aggression directed at me specifically. There are 3 people in my house that take care of and spend time with her, including myself, but she lives in my moms room and in turn spends the most time with her, but we've always made sure she doesn't get too attached to one person.

It started about a month ago, I was laying on the bed with her just watching videos on my phone when she started biting my ear lobe really hard. Normally she gently preen's the inside of my ear. I wear glasses and have worn them for about as long as we've had her and there's never been any issue, but it seems like she's scared of and or simply doesn't like them and ends up redirecting to my ear lobe. It got so bad that she had jumped on me when I was already not in a good mood and bit me so hard that blood ran down my ear and needless to say I yelled at her and put her in her cage for a while.

I'm not proud of that and I know you have to be calm with them, but that's the hardest she's bit me and it was especially painful on that part of my ear. It's at a point now where I can't even pick her up or she bites me either immediately on the hand or after a few minutes of holding. I'm normally the one who watches her, along with my dog (who is also scared of her) when the rest of my family goes out of town. They'll be heading out next weekend and I'm sort of stuck in a difficult position because she wants attention, but I can't give her any if she's going to clamp down.

I'm not sure why she suddenly doesn't like my glasses and there's nothing I can't afford to change them out. I should note my sister doesn't wear glasses, but she's been getting bitey (not as much as me) after she has her for 10-15min, but doesn't bite my mom who does wear glasses at all. She's able to pick her up and do all of the things we were all able to do before with no issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to show her that there's nothing wrong with them? I've never been quite sure what to use treat wise for training purposes as she's very picky about what she likes to eat.

This is my little guy Monkey aka Chicken Curry!
His last video here was basically shower ASMR. Lately, he’s decided that showers should be a daily activity, and honestly, I think he’d bathe 24/7 if I let him…

On top of that, he has become completely obsessed with Ruby Waters’ new song Pay as You Go. Every time it comes on, he starts dancing like it’s his personal anthem. At this point, I’m convinced he’s her biggest fan

Now I’m curious, fellow parronts do your parrots have favorite songs or artists too?

Every day when I come home, he starts humming and dancing until I sing to him. It’s become our little ritual but… also I will do anything for this cranky teenager to not bite me lol

she keeps sticking her beak out from the middle of the bars of her cage, and trying to reach out with her tongue and bite something...?

at first I thought it was something cute and funny but now she has a very slightly visible redness on her tongue and idk what to do. she won't stop. unlike usual conures she isn't very prickly but she bites if I try to stop her

Advice Should I panic? NSFW

First time green cheek conure owner. I'm still trying to get them off of their seed diet so I am slightly panicking this is because of lack of nutrition. The vet can't see them for another 48hrs, so I take it this might not be life threateningif the vet isn't panicking? But I thought I would ask while we wait for the vet. Is this normal for their poo? (Obviously Google told me that they're dying 😂)They seem happy and healthy. Picture of my little dude I took this morning as well. Thank you from a panicking conure parent 😂😭

Edit: thank you guys for all the reassurance. Good to know they saved it all night just to poo on me as soon as I took them out of their cage lol. That's very in line with their personality.

Advice Chop Advice: how to store

I am a brand new gold cap caregiver. My husband and teenage daughter really wanted a snuggly, goofy, sweet bird. After spending days at the bird shop, I selected this bird for having a clear bond with us. I did NOT realize that there are varieties other than green cheeks until after I brought him home 😱… I thought they were all just different colors of green cheeks.

Anyway, my question is: how do I extend the life of chop? Even if I only make a little, he doesn’t eat it as quickly as it goes bad. I end up wasting a lot of it. Can I freeze it?

Bonus question: he’s not super snuggly… is that just his personality or will it improve with time and attention?

Advice Baby nipping phase?

I got a younger conure a few months back and he’s very much still in his nipping phase. I tots understand that parrots feel the world with their beak, especially younger ones and he can still be relatively gentle but randomly, he’ll suddenly come up to me or my brother and just CHOOOOMP down like we’re dessert and then yank our finger around.

And I’m talking like alligator death roll yank.

Like yes, I get it, you’re a bird with a beak.. but good lord, I feel like a victim, LOL.

Is this just a trait everyone else has seen.. if not, is there a way you tried to reinforce the idea that behavior isn’t okay? I’ve had plenty of parrots in the past, babies included but jeez, my conure’s a brat when he wants to be 🫠

Advice Green cheek bonding (unconventional)

Hey my fiancé got a green cheek last week he/she is 8 or 9 months old and is absolutely beautiful. Its just me in the house with the bird because we got another one! Yay. She is yellowish .. so we have 2 . One is green mainly and one is yellow .. so green bird is terrified of us from day one. Runs away when changeing out food and water and greens . Very picky pulling food out of bucket and only eating a certain seed. Sunflower seed. Noticed it and was like okay well thats good i can easily hold those and offer as a treat. So i dug through the mix pellet and seed and took all the sunflower seeds out. Green noticed the bowl was sun flower seedless and was upset. Good . Green was still eating other little bits out of the bucket but was upset still. Only wants cake like a child would. Remove cake . Eats other stuff. Well now for the scared of hands problem. Would not take food from hand. So what i did : held sunflower seed in finger thumb combo in the bucket where the normal food was and alowed green to see into the bucket that it was there. Which worked! Green ate the seed from my fingers in thw bucket. I just slowly took my fingers out of the bucket offering a seed each time. Green would take it if it was in or above. Tho when away from bucket absolutely not. So i held the back side of the bucket to my fingers so the color contrast was still there and that worked good. Like green association to the bucket color means food and i slowly removed the bucket completely and now green takes food from fingers easy. All that took maybe 30 min for green but green is still not okay with more then 3 fingers. So i just slowly added more fingers in line of sight. And now i can pour food into my hand open palm and green will eat it . So happy. 10 small baby sized sunflower seeds later were besties. Green is grooming and stretching and makeing cute noises that they did not do before. I hope this may help someone else get that first step to help training and bonding.

Yellow after 2 days is just walking on our hands bc the same idea of trying to think what they are thinking but she is way less scaredy bird and willing to try new things and new feet feels.

Its day 3 of me and green learning to talk to each other so i played in his bird bath with my fingers just making a mess and throwing water around flicking water around . Idk why but green was very upset when i left after that to get the dog inside from pottying. Then i came back and green was as close to me as possible without touching me. On the door that swings downwards trying to get me to look at them. Like we're bonded or something. So after that little display i held his food bucket in one hand with my fingers covering the normal perch it has and eventually got green to touch my fingers with his feet and after trying that for a good 40 min or so on off on off over and over he will now sit on my finger on the bucket while they eat. And then i was like okay i gotta potty myself and was gunna get up and green flew to the food bucket still in hand so yeah! Maybe

Tell me what im doing wrong im spending my 4 hours of not working or sleeping trying everything i can and in 3 days...progress . Also i feed green a seed from his bag and then i eat a seed from my bag and we just do that . Like look lil dude im eating a pumpkin seed not you here have a sunflower seed or whatever this other thing is u like.

I shove the first one in thier face when i see them then all the other seeds i make him/her come to me. Or try to touch my finger. Or something that seems scary but then i dont move and just let them figure it out. Litterly on my phone youtube or a podcast and just sit there holding a seed lettin them run to and froe trying to get it like theyre trying to see when the trap is going to spring. But even after green gets it finnaly i dont move until they back away completely.

Moving like a sloth. I also just anouce and point to where in going and where im miveing my feet and what im doing from criss cross or striaght legged . Just as a warning like hey dude imma move my feet soorryyy this ones gunna go that way this ones going that way and .. at first he was terrified but now hes like oh. Ok. Not scared at all . Pretty smart lil dude.

Ok i done now. Help me if u can . If this helps u yay. Ok bye bye.

Injured Bird Help my bird NSFW

So Ive had my green cheeked conure for about 2 years now and he's 3 years old. Recently he's been keeping one of his eyes closed. Me and my dad thought nothing of it, until recently he's been closing both eyes. We've taken him to the avian vet a countless amount of times and they dont know what's wrong with him. I've noticed he's been shaking and one of his eyes has been tearing up. We've been keeping a heater on to make sure he isn't cold, and have been giving him antibiotic eye drops. I'm really scared, he's still a baby and it scares me. if anybody has been through the same thing or knows about this, please let me know. I love my baby and don't want him to die.

Cage Setup Almost done!

Her new cage finally arrived last week and I’m happy with how things are coming together. Just a few more final touches and more enrichment (toys) and I’ll be done.

Edit:

I got most of the things for her cage from Amazon. The top and bottom wooden platforms were built using 1x4s and a sheet of plywood, and we found the side table it’s sitting on through Facebook Marketplace.

Advice Is this cage unsafe for a green cheek?

Post image
17 Upvotes

I know 0.5 - 0.625 inches is recommended. I’ve seen people say 0.75 inches max. I ordered a cage listed as 0.5 inches, and went through 5 hours of assembly before realizing that it’s actually 0.75 inches across. So now I’d be at the upper end of what people consider acceptable.

What worries me even more is the diamond shape; I’m worried that if she can get her head through, it’s even more dangerous than 0.75 inch vertical bars because the V of the diamond poses a greater strangulation hazard when her body weighs her down.

I think I already know the answer, but for my own sake before disassembling it, this is unsafe, right?
