Captain Britain 50th Anniversary Special

• Upvotes

On the first page of this comic, it says the story takes place between the panels of Captain Britain #9 (1976), but I can't for the life of me see where it fits in! Does anyone have any ideas how it all works?

Other New Fanatical comic bundle: Creepy + Eerie volumes

• Upvotes

I was distraught that I missed out on the humble bundle of creepy, which was a year ago I believe, I just didn't have disposable income at the time and could only buy the $1 tier where I got Vol 1-3; and apparently humble also did one for Eerie in a similar time window that I just was not around to visit, so I gobbled this full bundle pretty quickly -I believe it is 61 comics total.

Downloading them seems to be a pain though on mobile

Question Which one is the better villain exploration comic. Batman Arkham: Hugo Strange 2022 collection or Superman Vs. Mongul 2013 collection Spoiler

Even as a huge Alan Moore fan and liking Starman and Martian manhunter the story didn't do enough for me it's just average and Alan moore comic at the end for the man who has everything I don't get why would Superman dream world have his dad as a fascist and no relationship with the kents from what I recall? As well as the others to my knowledge being background characters.

I understand he is more incompetent and meatheated a spoiled prince who uses distractions and wealth to hide that unlike Darkseid the avatar of evil who is just as much of a threat as a strategist but Darkseid is far more interesting to me more threatening has more lore cooler fights better conflicts and allies. Even without counting him there is already Helspoint from Superman new 52 who I think bounces off him way better. Mongul just doesn't do anything to really stand out from an average dictator let alone in Superman rogues gallery maybe Warworld or even a good boring villain like Krem of the Yellow hills in Woman of tomorrow comic mostly hype moments and aura to me.

His kids are more interesting to me as Hal Jordan Green Lantern villains mainly his son how someone like Geoff Johns does him or when he was a Martian Manhunter villain like the start of the comic I think they had more parallels there or even as a Batman villain in Brave and the Bold. I could also see him working way better as Wonder Woman villain she needs more diversity maybe how Gal Simone did Darkseid in Sensational Wonder Woman volumes could work for him with a few changes.

Hugo Strange leaves the generic mad scientist role and evolves from it quickly having an unique obsession with wanting to be Batman and does a great job proving a mental challenge to him without pulling BS and bounces off other villains well. He can fit in a grounded story or more fantastical one easy. Interesting while being mysterious instead of underdeveloped I liked Monster Men take already I read before this.

Question What do 1:100s typically go for at retail?

• Upvotes

I buy a few ratios here or there. It doesn't blow my mind to spend $20 for a 1:25, but typically I find places to get them for less. I have a couple of 1:50s. This is only when it's a meaningful character/artist/book. It's never exactly $50.

But I've never had a 1:100. There's an upcoming book that I want. How much do they go for?

Suggestions Crossed: Wish You Were Here deserves more acclaim and attention despite the other series's arcs unnecessary gratuity

Most Crossed is trash, but this one is an exceptional arc in the series; the writing, character reveals, and twists are all top-notch. There's still some over-the-top gratuity, but a really good plot mostly backs it up.

It's by Simon Spurrier.

Question Other than Monsters (2021) by Barry Windsor-Smith which was made over the course of 35 years, are there comic books / graphic novels that took a long time to be published?

I’m fascinated by this subject for some reason. Maybe it’s because it speaks of the passion and perseverance of the artists and the struggle to see their work in a published form. Do you know other examples?

Suggestions Suggestions for wholesome super hero comics?

I'm looking for comic recommendations that are more lighthearted, wholesome, and low-stakes. Something that focuses on character relationships, friendship, family, and everyday moments rather than dark storylines.

Recently, I really enjoyed Batman and Robin: Year One, especially the dad/son relationship between Bruce and Dick. I also really enjoyed Batgirls, the art is amazing and I loved the friendship between Steph and Cass.

Basically, I'm looking for more wholesome comics, with kind hearted characters, friendships and family dynamics. Stories that don't take themselves too seriously all the time.

Discussion Comic books are a team sport, but sometimes one player is absolutely carrying the franchise on their back.

Give me the runs where the plot was entirely generic, the dialogue was pure filler, but the pencils and inks were so breathtakingly gorgeous that you bought every single issue anyway. Who is the most carried writer in comic history?

General Opinion

I collect comic books, I have 500+ and I was thinking of giving away or selling some to lighten the load. I have some people telling me to keep them for future worth and some say to sell. There are certain comics + their story lines i dont mind being rid of, but I've been a collector for just under 10 years, does anyone have any tips or how they felt getting rid of some?

Hey everyone, new to the community and relatively new to comic collecting. I recently got this from a friend and unfortunately it got crunched at the top (fucking postal service). I don’t plan to get it graded or sell it, but I was curious if this could be pressed out at all? Idk if people do pressing with foil comics. I’ve had a couple comics graded and pressed 2 years ago. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏻

I like to display some of my comics this way everyday, just a nice little habit I formed to enjoy my comics. Today's picks are Conan the Adventurer #1 from 1994, written by Roy Thomas with pencils by Rafael Kayanan. Silver Surfer #75 from 1992, written by Ron Marz and Pencils by Ron Lim. Hardware #1 from 1993, written by Dwayne McDuffie and penciled by Denys Cowan. And last but not least, Batman versus Predator #1 from 1991, written by Dave Gibbons and Penciled by Andy Kubert.

Seeking The Online Material for Jon Chad's Bad Mask (2017 Boom Studios)

I'm reaching out to see if anyone can help find a copy of the online supplement for Jon Chad's very unique graphic novel Bad Mask (2017 Boom Studios). I'm looking for screencaps, a mirror site, etc. Even a description of what was there would be nice.

Bad Mask told the story via a box of documents (trading cards, a newspaper, a secret file, a henchman manual, etc.). Part of it was online, a fake "file server" named www.server2174.tech/

Alas the site is now dead and only the main page is in the internet archive because it was "password protected" (the password is in the graphic novel). Here is the front page capture: https://web.archive.org/web/20180902224901/https://www.server2174.tech/

I contacted Boom Studios and Chad but have received no reply so far.

UPDATE: This is not blaming them - it's a 9 year old publication and not surprising the stuff would be offline, and usually the Internet Archive would back it up - it just can't handle passwords.

For more info on how cool this project was check out here: https://comicon.com/2017/12/22/unboxing-jon-chads-bad-mask-a-multi-media-story-experience-from-boom-studios/

I recently purchased the 2 hardcover volumes of Absolute Martian Manhunter as I could not wait for the deluxe. I adored this series in single issues and am still eagerly awaiting the deluxe edition but on the reread this time around I found that this comic was in fact reading me! Here’s my in-depth review!

Cannot believe how good all of DCs recent series launches have been.

I have been reading monthly comics for a long while now, and I genuinely cannot remember a time when a single publisher (let alone DC) had such consistent quality across the board that I felt like I wanted to read every new book they put out.

Genuinely every single #1 DC has put out in the last month or two has been absolutely stellar. Jonah Hex, the Demon, LoSH, and Doom Patrol have all been fantastic first issues. And beyond that, their line is extremely varied and each one of these books has its own voice and distinct style in a way that avoid a lot of the cookie cutter feel that big two ongoing can frequently fall into.

DC has obviously been killing it with the absolute universe. Beyond that, their main continuity book are also the best they have been in years with Fractions Batman, Williamsons Superman, and Waids w
WF. Even the Vertigo books have been really great, especially Ram Vs newest book. But I’m looking at just the new series that they have launched recently and I’ve never felt that I wanted to read every single new ongoing that a publisher is launching before.

Framing/Storing Large Comics?

Hey all,

I’m looking to either frame or casually seal my copy of Amazing Spider-Man 1000 and am curious about my options to either show it off/keep it safe on a budget.

I’m not looking to get it professionally slabbed or anything all that serious. I’m not trying to sell it years down the road, just trying to preserve something special that I’d like to pass onto my kids when they turn 18.
