Question Nuts
Do you guys eat just whatever nuts from the store or only ones labeled gluten free? I’ve been diagnosed for about a year now and have not been very careful when it comes to nuts (or really most things that are naturally gluten free). I was wondering what the consensus is and if anyone knows exactly how much of a risk it is. I tend to make some calculated risks when it comes to things like this because being gluten free is hard enough.

A thing to note is that "may contain" and similar warnings are optional. Almost all non-GF labelled nuts I see have a "may contain" warning, so I presume that those that don't (often store brand) are just choosing to not put them there as opposed to them genuinely being devoid of risk. A lot of dry goods (nuts, seeds, grains) are all packed in the same plants, as are things like mixes with pretzels or other gluten bits.
GF labelled nuts are often expensive and harder to find, which I think kind of tells ya something about the typical plant situation. For most other categories of "normal" food GF labelled versions aren't that much more expensive since presumably all that had to be done was a bit of testing/ingredient verification, and not a wholesale plant reconfiguration/finding a different plant.
If you don't have access to reasonably priced GF labelled nuts, you can always buy in shell nuts and then wash/crack them yourself.

My MO is to only get nuts that say GF or have a "may contain" statement for other allergens that aren't wheat, and that has worked well for me

I do look for either gf-labeled or, if not gf-labeled, nuts with manufacturing or may contain statements that do not include wheat (would not buy nuts without a statement). I’ve been getting walnuts from a manufacturer whose labeling and website states that only walnuts are processed at the facility, even though they are not labeled gf, for example.

I buy them from Costco and I don’t only buy certified.
I won’t buy if it says may contain
I really trust the Kirkland brand

I used to live cashews, but most nuts don't agree with me anymore and cause bloating. I've been exploring if this may be a secondary diagnosis of lymphocytic colitis. Something to consider if nuts still don't agree with you

The only time I’ve ever really got violently sick in memory was from nuts. I only eat nuts labeled gluten free or straight from the farms.
