Referrals Monthly Referral Megathread - October 2026

Please share your referrals here and nowhere else on the subreddit, and please read the rules below.

  1. You must have an undisclosed amount of community karma at r/CapitalOne to share referrals. This amount is generously low and can be achieved easily and organically by making a small number of contributions to the subreddit. Comments from users who do not meet this requirement will be automatically removed without further notice.
  2. Submit exactly one comment per monthly referral thread. If you have multiple referral links, put them all in one comment. Multiple comments from the same user will be automatically removed.
  3. Do not attempt to attract unfair attention. This includes unnecessarily long comments, excessive use of large/bold text or emojis, images in comments, and personal backstories. Try to be as concise as possible; a few sentences or bullet points about the product and its perks is fine.
  4. Do not offer direct compensation for referrals. Advertising the referral bonus or sign-up bonus that Capital One will provide to the referee is fine, but any offer to “split” the referral bonus that Capital One gives to the referrer is not allowed. Similarly, do not offer compensation in forms other than currency, such as favors, gift cards, awards, Reddit Premium, NFTs, etc.
  5. Do not deceive anyone. Lying about any of the referral terms is strictly prohibited. Be honest and upfront with your intentions.
  6. Comments not related to Capital One referrals are not allowed in this thread. This includes referrals for other products not offered by Capital One.

Remember: The referrer gets rewarded if you use their referral, but only if you’re not currently a primary cardholder of any Capital One credit card. Authorized user accounts don’t impact referral eligibility.

Comments are presented in random order. These posts are locked and unpinned monthly.

Discover Discover Network Megathread

Hi all,

This is a continuation of the old Discover Debit Card Megathread that is nearly 6 months old now. Since Capital One is starting to transition some of their credit cards to the Discover network (though only for some new accounts), the mod team figured that a single megathread for both debit and credit cardholders was needed.

Debit cards

Capital One is converting their debit card portfolio from Mastercard over to the Discover network. All newly issued debit cards for new Capital One 360 Checking accounts are now Discover debit cards. For existing Mastercard debit cardholders, the transition to Discover is being done in phases, with no regard to expiration dates. There is more information in the below links.

Key takeaways from the FAQs:

  • Once your Discover debit card is activated, your debit Mastercard will stop working. Some recurring transactions may go through, but your debit card information should be updated ASAP anywhere you have it saved to avoid interruptions.
  • You can delay activating your Discover debit card and keep using your debit Mastercard for some time. Eventually, though, it will stop working.

We'd like to use this opportunity to encourage our users to use credit cards in place of debit whenever possible. Making purchases with debit cards is riskier, because it could directly expose your bank account to fraudsters. With credit cards, as long as you can pay the statement balance in full every month, you could pay no interest, have better security and fraud protection, better cardholder benefits, and rewards & sign-up bonuses (on cashback or travel cards).

Credit cards

Capital One is beginning the process of converting some of their credit card portfolio from Mastercard over to the Discover network, but in the case of new accounts, this is only for some people using the pre-approval tool (which is mandatory with some referral links). See this post and the FAQ below for more details.

Currently, the only cards confirmed to be on the Discover network (again, for some new applicants) are: Quicksilver, QuicksilverOne, Venture, VentureOne, Savor, and SavorOne. This confirmation comes from the Cardholder Benefits Guides page on the website. One could reasonably assume the rewards-free Platinum is not included because it will have fewer benefits once it transitions to Discover.

For existing Visa/MC accounts, Capital One is beginning conversion to the Discover network as of 4/21/2026. So far, only the Quicksilver has been confirmed for migration. This change happens to coincide with an announcement that the Quicksilver will begin earning 3% cash back at grocery stores and gas stations, in addition to the 1.5% it already earns elsewhere. It is not yet known if this cash back change requires a network change, or if Quicksilver Mastercards will get it as well. See this post for more details.

r/CapitalOne FAQ

  • Why is this happening?
    • Back in May 2025, Capital One acquired Discover, which of course owns the Discover Global Network. It's simply a smart business move for Capital One to leverage the network which they now own and increase usage and adoption by moving their debit and credit cards over to the Discover network.
  • How does this affect me, really? Beyond the obvious stuff like having to update my info.
    • Capital One can brag all they want about how Discover is accepted at "99%" of places that take credit cards in the US. The fact of the matter is that Discover is not as widely accepted as Visa or Mastercard, both in the US but especially abroad. If you regularly travel internationally, you should carry alternative forms of payment (e.g., credit or debit cards from other banks). Domestically, acceptance is mostly fine but you may run into the occasional merchant that doesn't accept Discover. Sometimes it could be a store or restaurant, other times it may be your utility company. It shouldn't happen often, but it can still be frustrating when it does. The good news is that with all these new Discover cards out in the wild, adoption and acceptance should increase over time.
  • Can I still withdraw cash at ATMs with my debit card?
    • Capital One is still a member of the Allpoint and MoneyPass ATM networks, so you will still be able to withdraw cash fee-free at participating ATMs in the US, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Outside of these countries, you might still be able to withdraw cash, but you will pay ATM fees. Keep an eye out for the Discover and/or Pulse logos. You can use the Capital One app or the Discover Cash Access Locator to see available ATMs in your area. Unfortunately, there are many countries in which you won't find a single ATM that accepts Discover/Pulse cards.
  • Can I still use my debit card with apps like Venmo, PayPal, and Apple Cash? And mobile wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay?
    • Yes, but with some caveats. Outgoing Venmo/PayPal/Apple Cash payments will still work just fine, but instant transfers into your bank account (which typically come with a fee) will not work. Apple Pay and Google Pay for purchases reportedly works fine, but you may run into issues with specific merchants that don't accept Discover credit cards but do accept Discover/Pulse debit cards (e.g., Costco). Your debit card on Apple/Google Pay will not work in those cases; you'll have to insert your physical card.
  • What's that about Costco?
    • To clarify, Costco USA does accept Discover/Pulse debit cards in-store. You will need to insert the physical card to make the transaction PIN-enabled for it to go through as debit. Tap-to-pay and mobile wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay will not work. Costco does not accept Discover credit cards in-store, nor do they take any form of Discover online.
  • I'm thinking of applying for a new credit card. How do I know if I will receive a Visa, Mastercard, or Discover card?
    • If using the pre-approval tool, you may see a message that says, "This card will run on Capital One's Discover Network." Not everyone will receive this message. If you do see it but don't want a Discover card, you can simply decline the offer and try applying directly instead. When applying directly (i.e. clicking "Apply Now" from the page for that specific card), the application page will have a banner at the top with the Capital One logo and either the Visa or Mastercard logo. There are no known instances or data points yet of anyone seeing the Discover logo up there. Discover network cards are currently only being offered through the pre-approval tool.
  • Can I still post on r/CapitalOne about this?
    • Posts that include unique data points or provoke thoughtful discussion are still allowed. Posts that are simply unhelpful complaints or otherwise do not add value to the community may be removed, and users may be redirected to this megathread. This is the only way to ensure that important discussion can still happen while not crowding the subreddit with repetitive posts. Thanks for understanding!
  • Will you keep us updated?
    • Absolutely. Us mods, we're merely volunteers, but we genuinely enjoy helping people out and we'll be trying our best to update these posts and keep you informed on any future changes. This includes posting FAQs like this one, highlighting helpful posts from our users, answering questions, updating our wiki (especially our article on the acquisition), and more. Thanks for sticking with us!

Bank Account Canadian check to US Capital Bank account

So i got a canadian check and i have been having trouble depositing it to my smaller texas bank, they sent me to Bank of America to ask and they said i cant check it out because as a non customer the limit is $4,000 and my check exceeds that amount. The other solution is to open a bank with them but I declined (i havent researched into them). Before the company sent me this check they did tried wiring it to me and ach transfer but it failed because again I have a smaller bank or there were crazy fees. Im thinking about opening an account with Capital one and also opening a Discover student credit card, would this be the smarter choice and can i deposit my bank of america (canada) check into a capital one account..? This is also my first ever big and international check so i have no idea what I am doing

Discover Question about Cap 1 transition

My spouse and I both have our own separate discover credit cards/accounts. My card transitioned in July to capital one, and everything went fine. His will transition October 19th. My question is- he has me manage his card, including using my mobile number for verifications/text alerts etc. I of course use my number for my own account too. Will that mess anything up for him(me) making and accessing his new capital one app? Does he need to change it to his number now in the discover app before it transitions? I've heard that it could cause issues with accessing and setting up his online account with capital one, so I'm looking for anyone who's been through this and knows? TIA

Bank Account Most recent C1 Savings bonus offer - terms are weird?

So, I've been toying with churning CC and savings/checking offers for bonus. I logged into my C1 account (at the time just CC) and saw - Get $1500 for opening a Savings 360 account and deposit at least $5,000 for 90 days. I got so excited. So, I opened the account - transferred $10,000 into account during app process thinking this was too good. Then I realized - man this is too good, so I searched around. Doctor of Credit and others stated this was tiered - to get the full $1500 you had to deposit $100,000. But during sign up and even capturing the terms at the end of the signup it didn't say anything about tiered.

The terms at the end are very specific: Deposit $5000 within the next 15 days of account opening and hold for 90 days. Did C1 dupe me? Know I believe the tiered levels of deposits the min was $400 for $10K $750 for $50K and the full $1500 for $100K.

Any thoughts?

During signup I was also presented with the Checking account - I had to enter the code CHECKING250 to get $250 for two $500 DD. Peeps have said this doesn't have to be payroll DD - that C1 will accept external transfer. I will give this a try - though I can do payroll DD - been doing this for other offers recently - pain in the butt but hey $.

Credit Card Capital One removed my wife as an authorized user with zero notification, and support gave a confusing reason. Has this happened to anyone else?

I have been using the Capital One Venture X card for the past 2 years, and my wife is an authorized user on the account. Recently, she was automatically removed as an authorized user without any notification, email, or alert.

We only found out because her transactions started getting declined over the last two days. When I logged into the app to check if I had accidentally frozen her card, I couldn’t find her profile or card anywhere on the account.

I called Capital One customer support. Initially, they couldn't find much detail, but later they told me there was a note on the account mentioning a "dispute regarding the name for the authorized user," which is why she was removed. Neither my wife nor I initiated any request or called about this.

I'm really confused by the "name dispute" reason and worried this could be related to some sort of fraud or system glitch. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Credit Card Changed due date?

I usually pay our Savor One card on the same due date of the 11th every month. Over rhe weekend we gor an email indicating we have a late payment. I checked and now it says it was due on the 9th? Is it possible for them to change the due date randomly. This is our first late payment and it's quite disturbing. Im sure its not a major negative on our credit as thats not normal, but wtf?

Credit Card Checking offers for Savor One and got product change. Is it worth the switch.

Post image
10 Upvotes

I keep seeing on this forum that the Savor One is basically a Bucket Card. I accepted an offer for it back in May of this year thinking that other than the QS Secured that I had at the time, that It would be great to get an Unsecured Card. I asked for a credit limit increase back in August and was denied.

I am still currently fixing my whole credit profile to make things a little better and recently accepted an offer from C1 for the Savor Rewards for Good Credit. I do want to get a credit limit increase for the Savor One , but not so sure when to do it.

I did check and see if there was any offers currently for it and I got a product change offer for the Quicksilver one.

Wanted to see if I should just stick with Savor One or Do the Switch.

Bank Account Capital One voided my referral code after they shut down my account and opened a new one

Last month, I set up Capital One checking, savings, and credit card accounts. I used a promo code for the checking account that would have given me a $300 bonus for setting up direct deposit, which I intended to do. Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity because what followed has been a nightmare. Within a couple of days, Capital One completely locked down my account. I was completely locked out, and it took a dozen phone calls and nearly 2 weeks before anyone at Capital One could tell me anything.

The Issue: Last year, someone tried to open an account using my information. When I set up my legitimate account last month, Capital One automatically linked the fraudster's information to the account. Because of this, they said they would shut down the account and open a new one for me.

I've been on the phone with Capital One nearly 20 times and have had to verify my identity nearly a dozen times. I'm glad we're being safe and secure (that obviously comes first), but I'm also exhausted and frustrated.

Referral Code Voided: Now, after all this, I got on the phone today to finally access the new account, and I asked about the referral code and timeline. That's being applied to the new account, right? Because after all, I had no opportunity to use or even access the account before. At first, I was told yes, they could make an exception, and then I was told no, they couldn't. The reason? "Sir, the terms of the referral code are that you can't have had a Capital One bank account before, and you set one up last month." Seriously? I asked if I could make a new referral or promo code. No.

Any advice? This doesn't make any sense to me and doesn't seem fair at all. THEY shut down the original account and opened a new one. I never had access to the first account. Honestly, this whole thing has been so frustrating that I'm wondering why I should even bank with Capital One at all. Any advice is appreciated.

Shopping/Offers What was the longest time it took for an offer to go from Waiting to Pending?

Anytime an offer tracked for me, it never took more than 2 days. Now for some reason it’s been weeks and over 12 offers didn’t track for me, I’ve been doing the same thing the whole time. The only thing I can think of is that the more offers you do the longer it takes to track?

Anyone have an experience where an offer tracked like a week later or a month later?

Bank Account Capital One 360 Savings Account Interest Change

I signed up for Capital One 360 Savings in October of 2019. For years, now, my interest rate has been at 1%. My latest statement for July 1 - Sep 30 shows my interest rate changed from 0.995% to 2.960% on August 4 and then again from 2.960% to 3.057% on Sep 25.

Can anyone explain why it suddenly changed so much? Is this due to the Interest Rate Litigation?

Other USPS Address Change

I had someone make a fraudulent address change made in my name about 8 months ago and have just not gotten to the point where I feel like things are back to normal. But Capital One keeps changing my address even when I call and tell them to stop.

Can capital one or other credit institutions change your address on file based on a request from USPS. the fraud department man I spoke to was very adamant against this but others online day it's possible. So I pose the question here.

It's happened to multiple accounts from different institutions as well not just Capital One...

Credit Card Do interest charges scale with balance, or are the consistent every month?

Hi everyone, sorry if this is a stupid question. Earlier this year (~March) I owed a little over $3,000 on my only credit card, a Quicksilver (emergency happened :/). I wasn’t able to pay it off much at all, and the $50/month interest charges started hitting. They’ve varied a bit over the months- $47, $50, $52 etc.

As of this month, I’ve successfully paid the balance down to $300 (yippeee!!). I should be able to get it clear or almost clear next week after payday, but unfortunately can’t do it today.

My interest charge always hits around the 14-15th of the month so I’m expecting it tomorrow or the next day. My question is- will it be less than $50 because I’ve paid off 90% of my balance? Or will it still be around the same just because I’m holding a balance in general, not because I have a maxed out balance? Just want to know how sad I should be in advance lol.
