User Review Mavica Surprised Me

I always wrote these cameras off as total junk for a few reasons. Limitations of floppy disks, size of the camera, ridiculously poor image quality, poor reliability, etc. Then I saw one at the thrift for 5 bucks and couldn't say no. I hate to say it, but I'm really enjoying using it. The photos are bad. And usually not "bad in a good way". It's really challenging to get something even halfway decent out of it. But the experience of using it is just more fun than I expected so I wanted to share. If you already have access to floppy disks and the means to read/write them and you find a good deal on a mavica, give it a chance!

User Review Warning - MPB

So I’ve bought an EF70-200 f2.8 II for an upcoming vacation.
Received a copy supposedly in „excellent“ condition yesterday. From the outside it was, yet turned out to be a complete lemon. Completely blurry pictures. Okay, one-off issues can happen.
Returned and bought another copy that I received today.
While it’s sharp, it’s clearly not in an „excellent“ condition, but quite well used. The thread of the lens collar is broken, making the collar useless.
I’ve called and first they were quite helpful, at least wanting to refund me the difference from excellent to the appropriate category. Now they’ve emailed me and said that the issue was with DHL delivering.
Really angry with them right now - what have your experiences been with MPB?

Questions Is go pro still the best for action cameras? Or is DJI or some other brand better?

Looking to use it for biking, hiking, and shooting.
I was thinking a GoPro, but I’m hearing mixed opinions. Some people say they are still the king of action cameras, the mission 1 pro and hero 13 look really cool, but so do some of the DJI cameras. Looking to get some unbiased opinions since if I ask in the Dji or GoPro sub I’m probably going to get biased ones.

Ignore this I don’t need this i don’t know why it’s making me include this in my post

Holy shit, I'm thanking the thrift gods right now, my brother found a Sharp VL-C650 at a thrift store for 40$, WITH 2 batteries, the camera bag, and a VHS in it! If you have any info about this camera please lmk, I'm a beginner collector. Charging one of the batteries right now to see if it works.

edit: tried one battery and it didn't work so I got worried, tried the other one and the power light came on and then went off, I think I just need to let it charge for longer lol

Discussion Has Anyone Tried the Godox iT30 Pro or iT32 on an Older Digital Camera?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Has anyone tried using a modern compact flash like the Godox iT30 Pro or iT32 on an older digicam?

I'm planning to buy one for my Canon G10, but I'm not sure if it will work properly with the camera's hot shoe.

I'm mainly wondering if it will fire correctly and whether basic flash functionality works, even without TTL.

If you've tried either of these flashes on an older Canon PowerShot or another vintage digital camera, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience

Questions Switching to dumbphone set up

I am entirely overwhelmed trying to find a legit affordable digital camera. I don’t even know where to start. And when I do find one I like and check specs it’s like 200$. I am looking for something small with quality picture and video. Pink would be a super duper plus but I dont know. Is it worth it to import a pink y2k camera? If there’s an easier way I’d love to know. I picked the jelly star by unihertz til my light flip is delivered in may or whatever. So the camera is not good. Any tips at all would help before i over pay for something cute that’s not necessarily worth it.

Not sure if this is the thread for digital. Would love recommendations. Not looking to buy directly from this thread necessarily. Just don’t know where to start.

Recommendations What first camera should I choose ?

Hello people !

I would love a good camera to celebrate my 30yo! I searched for answers here and on internet but I am still not sure so if I can have advices it would be great.

Budget: 300 €

Country: France

Condition: second hand is perfectly fine !

Type of Camera: Mirrorless, DSLR, point and shoot, 35mm film? I DON'T KNOW 😭

Intended use: ideally hybrid shooting !

If photography; what style: portrait, street, trains and traffic

If video what style: little street vidéos and portraits vidéos.

What features do you absolutely need: start fast, flash easily put... I would love to not depend on the sun to take photos.

What features would be nice to have: idn

Portability: Pocketable

Cameras you're considering: Panasonic lumix lx10 but it is impossible to found.

Cameras you already have: bad caméras with a flash who burned eyes, without flash you could see nothing and with it it was too clear.

Notes: I really prefer simple settings. I think i don't care for zoom and wifi.

Thanks a lot and I wish you a beautiful day ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Discussion Looking for advice on buying an old school camera

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the best place to post. I make Liminal Horror videos for YouTube and I am looking at purchasing a VHS camera/camcorder. I'm looking for something vintage that I could buy. I want a camera that can really give that old 90's camera look, like the faded colors and blurred edges. Just something that can replicate old-style footage. I have no idea where to start with cameras as all new camcorders film in a higher resolution. If anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate the help.

Thanks!

Recommendations panasonic lumix gx1 or canon powershot g2

hey as the post states I need some advice on weather to get a Panasonic lumix or canon g2. I understand these are two completely different cameras to compare so any input and knowledge is appreciated. Im mainly looking for one to bring on backpacking trips or to the beach and just mess around with. i usually shoot film but prices are getting ridiculous so I’m looking for a digital to replace that with.

Factors im considering: price point, being able to transfer to my phone, picture quality, and something that’s gonna last

Questions Would I be able to repair a shutter mechanism issue in my a6400?

My Sony a6400 has been saying shutter error and telling me to turn it off and back on again but it doesn't clear. I went through Sonys help thing on their website to find a shop I could send it to that would be able to fix it. They quoted me $580 which seems high since that's what the camera is worth. I fix up electronics all the time but never a camera. So I'm wondering if this would be a complicated job and I should just send it into the shop, or if it will be easy enough that I could figure it out myself.

Questions I need some help

Today I bought my first digital camera Sony cybershot DSC w-620 with a battery memory and a battery charger. I took like two photos with it and left it for about two hours and when I picked it up again to take some photos. The screen showed that there was no battery and then the camera turned off. Put the battery in the charger for like an hour but then I took a photo and then it turned off again.
Do I need to leave the battery in the charger for a longer period of time or is there another thing I need to do?

Discussion Help me choose a hybrid camera for my use case

I recently started a marketing agency in India and looking to invest in a camera for our content production.

Currently, around 90% of our work is video and 10% is photography. As we grow, we may also take on more photography projects, so I’m looking for a reliable hybrid camera that can handle both.

My maximum budget is INR2.2 lakh ($2,322) for the camera body, and I can spend around INR 1 lakh (approximately $1,055) on a lens for now.

Here are the cameras I’m currently considering, based on the prices I’ve found in India:

Sony A7 V — (approx. $2,350)
Canon R6 V — (approx. $2,000)
Canon R6 Mark III — (approx. $2,300)
Nikon Z6 III — (approx. $1,790)
Nikon ZR —  (approx. $1,580)

Almost everyone recommends the Sony A7 V. My biggest concern is the cost of lenses. Currently I can only afford buy one good lens around
around the budget. For eg sigma 24-70 f2.8 cost $1030, which I can afford.

I’d like to understand whether Sony is genuinely the best choice for my situation or whether I’m overlooking some good alternatives.

Recommendations Camera recommendations for independent short films — $4,000–$6,000 CAD budget

Budget: $4,000–$6,000 CAD, potentially a little more for a genuinely worthwhile upgrade.
Country: Canada.
Condition: New preferred
Type of Camera: Cinema camera or video-focused hybrid camera.
Intended use: Primarily independent narrative short films, personal filmmaking projects, and experimental/creative filmmaking. Photography is secondary.
If photography; what style: Occasional photography, but not a priority.
If video what style: Cinematic narrative filmmaking, independent short films, atmospheric and visually expressive projects. I’m interested in achieving a polished, professional cinema look rather than a typical commercial or wedding-video aesthetic.
What features do you absolutely need:
Excellent image quality and dynamic range.
Log recording, preferably Canon Log 2 or an equivalent professional log profile, with good flexibility for color grading in DaVinci Resolve.
Open-gate recording if possible, since I want flexibility when cropping and reframing footage in post-production. My intended delivery resolution is 4K, with a 1.5:1 aspect ratio.
Good low-light performance.
High-quality internal recording, ideally RAW or another robust professional recording format.
Reliable autofocus would be a plus, since I’ll often be filming by myself.
Internal image stabilization would be nice, but it isn’t essential.
A camera with a good ecosystem of lenses and accessories.
Portability: Very important. I’m primarily a one-person filmmaker working on personal projects, not a large production with a dedicated camera operator, focus puller, and other crew members. I’d prefer a relatively compact, lightweight setup that I can operate independently and build up with accessories as needed.
Cameras you’re considering: Canon EOS C50, Canon EOS R5 Mark II, and potentially other cinema cameras or video-focused hybrids in this price range. I’m open to alternatives.
Cameras you already have: None that I’m planning to use for these projects.
Notes: I’m mainly investing in a camera for the next several years, so I want something capable and reliable that I can grow with. My school has lenses available to borrow, so I don’t necessarily need to buy an extensive lens collection immediately. I’m looking for recommendations on which camera would make the most sense for my use case, including whether a dedicated cinema camera is worth it over a hybrid camera. My budget is in Canadian dollars and is primarily for the camera body, although I’d appreciate advice on leaving room for essential accessories.

Recommendations Gift recommendations for my sister!

  • Budget: Up to 50 australian dollars or about 350 nok (could go higher)
  • Country: Australia or Norway
  • Condition: working, used or new doesn't matter, has to be reliable
  • Type of Camera: digital, small
  • Intended use: casual use, parties
  • If photography; what style: just snapshots
  • If video what style: n/a
  • What features do you absolutely need: flash, easy to charge, ok looking photos
  • Portability: want to be able to put into pocket and easily bring around
  • Cameras you're considering: secondhand kodak cameras, bigw or kmart brand cameras
  • Cameras you already have: canon powershot sx 740 hs and canon powershot a800
  • Notes: looking for some recommendations for cameras i can give as a christmas/birthday present to my sister! i have a more expensive one (canon powershot sx 740 hs that i saved up for) and i found a canon powershot a800 when thrifting (which i gave to one of my sisters). my younger sister also wants a digital camera so i'm hoping i can find one for her that is easy to use and something she doesn't need to worry to much about(secondhand or new doesn't matter). video is not important, but photos with flash are! also preferable if it's able to be charged with a common type charger or regular batteries. i found some but they have very low storage (and can't take larger SD cards)

Sorry if this is hard to understand, english is my second language and some of the technical terms are tricky. But in short: easy to use, good photos with flash, ok storage, reliable and sturdy, for parties and hangouts, low budget
