These days you have the options below, please correct me if I am wrong. Also, which option do you plan to take? Or do you have alternative options?
A. Buying a Smart TV and your data will be constantly stolen if you connect it to the internet (see Gamer's Nexus videos!, LG is very bad but all of them do it). The data harvesting more or less subsidizes the TV, making it the cheaper option.
After you buy this Smart TV, you must never, ever connect it to the internet and use some other device to display your media. I like using a Mini PC + Stremio or even a decent second hand not ancient Thin Client.
Please note that Smart TVs can even monitor what you watch through your HDMI cable using a technology called Automatic Content Recognition (ACR), so even with the Mini PC etc, you are not safe from data harvesting unless you never, ever connect TV to internet.
I am concerned that TV makers might increasingly have annoying popups/nag screens when you remain unconnected/offline. Some Smart TVs also try to connect to an unsecured open network to update or send data home.
B. Use a computer monitor. Issue here is that monitors over 32 inch are rare and expensive, so not an option for most people. They will also almost always require you to buy a soundbar as well.
C. Buy a commercial display, see this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-epPf7D8oMk
The issue here is that these displays can easily cost 2.5x or more than option A.
The upside is that most of the are designed to be run all day every day/many more hours than any consumer grade TV, so a commercial display likely should also last way more than 2.5x as many years with typical at home use. Here too you have to be careful which one you pick because some are sold with Android or other potential spyware OS/"Smart" features. And of course you will still need an external device to display your media.
D. Hunt around for the rather rare still existing new consumer grade "Dumb" TVs, from what I gather there are few of these around and generally will have worse performance than a similarly priced Smart TV. Smaller or less brightness, worse panel and speakers, etc seem common drawbacks. If you know exceptions to this, please post brand and model name below! Just for clarity, I only buy TV's roughly in the 42 to 50 inch range, I've never needed bigger and the extra cost and power consumption not worth it for my use case. YMMV!
