Can't get a reply here? Try r/ComputerBuild

Hey everyone,

This sub has been growing a lot as of recently and we've noticed a lot of posts have been getting buried and unanswered. There is a lot of noise due to how much it has grown.

I have created r/ComputerBuild as an alternative.

So please kindly try cross posting there to get it off the ground.

I will be helping users daily and also building a mod team/looking for moderators to help.

Thanks!

Other / >$1400 What is the key difference between 9070GRE and a regular 9070?

I am planning to upgrade my graphics card, and I am currently deciding between the 9070 GRE and the regular 9070. From what I have seen, there is about a $150 price difference between them. Is the regular 9070 worth the extra money, or would the RX 9070gre be the better value?

My highest demanding games are something like cyberpunk and gta v, and I do not really care about playing at the highest graphics settings.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Monitor before building a PC? (Using it with a laptop first)

Is buying a monitor before building a PC a good idea, given that I can use it with my laptop for now?

First-ever gaming PC build (£1,344 UK) — Should I build it myself or buy a prebuilt instead?

Hi everyone!

I’m completely new to PC gaming and have spent the past few weeks learning about different components, how they work and what makes a good gaming PC.

I’ve finally put together my first build and would really appreciate some honest feedback before purchasing everything.

PCPartPicker: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/qGgyH3

My build:
CPU: Ryzen 5 9600X — £160.97

Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE — £29.99

Motherboard: MSI PRO B840M-P WiFi 6E — £99.95

RAM: PNY Performance 16GB (2×8GB)
DDR5-5600 CL46 — £233.11

SSD: Kingston NV3 1TB NVMe — £129.97

GPU: PowerColor Reaper RX 9060 XT 16GB — £426.99

Case: NZXT H3 Flow — £48.89

PSU: MSI MAG A850GL 850W Gold — £89.99

Monitor: ASUS TUF Gaming 1080p 240Hz — £123.98

Total: £1,343.84 (including monitor)

My main goal is to achieve around 150+ FPS at 1080p competitive settings in games like Warzone. I’ll also be playing GTA, EA FC, Fortnite and other games.

I’ve chosen the AM5 platform because I’d like to upgrade my CPU and increase my RAM in the future without having to replace the entire system.

I’m aware DDR5 RAM prices are currently very high, which is why I’ve settled on 16GB for now.
I have three main questions:

Is this build good value for £1,344? Am I overspending on certain components, or could I get better performance for the money?

Would I be better off buying a prebuilt gaming PC instead? Given current component prices, is it possible to find a prebuilt with similar or better specifications for around the same price?

As someone who’s never built a PC before, what’s the best way to learn how to assemble everything correctly? I’ve watched a few tutorials, but I’d appreciate advice from people who’ve built their own PCs.
I’d ideally like this PC to last at least 3–4 years, with the option to upgrade components along the way.

Any recommendations or beginner tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

After some advice from you guys i think i finally have a good build

there isnt any ram yet because I have to find the cheapest option possible

BUT it will be DDR5 CL36-38 and 5600MHz or above

I know the brand or maker doesnt matter much i only has to have this specs

I got told the SSD is not the best durability wise, but for the price im getting it (146usd) i think its the way to go

There isnt a GPU neither because im only using this pc, for music production and photo editing, maybe in the future ill edit video and then ill buy the gpu

Please lmk what you think

Is this PC too overkill?

Hello! I'm new to building a PC and would really appreciate some advice before I order my parts.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ksHjR4

I'm from Sweden, and my budget is around $3,000. But I'm willing to spend more if it means the PC will last longer without needing upgrades, though I don't want to spend money on something unnecessary.

I mainly play World of Warcraft and as I understand the current build might be a bit overkill. Would it make sense to downgrade anything?

For the fan setup, I'm thinking of replacing the standard fans on the AIO with reverse-blade fans, mounting the radiator on the side as intake, and using reverse fans at the bottom with two standard fans at the rear as exhaust. Would this setup make sense?

I appreciate all input!

Help me get a start in the pc world

I am beginning to look into building my first pc and I have absolutely no idea where to begin. I want to continue playing a few open world single player games like Minecraft (Java and slightly modded), and a few fps games. I am trying to shoot for around 1k for my budget and be able to run more demanding games with ease, would it be possible with that budget? I am also planning to try and build it myself instead of getting a prebuilt, but prebuilt works too

Greetings folks,

my gf is rocking her old rig and her gtx1050ti.

But by 2026 its really stretching it thin with old hardware so we are looking to get her a new rig.

The Budget is up to 1800€.

The wonderful /buildmeapc community helped me out last year with my own rig

here: https://www.reddit.com/r/buildmeapc/comments/1nf8ufq/looking_to_build_a_gaming_pc

That worked perfectly and im still enjoying that build very much.

I would really appriciate any kind of help and have a great day =)

Sanity check before Buying

Hey everyone,

I am currently planning my next PC. Up until now, I have always bought pre-builds and never dared to configure one myself, which is why I am struggling a bit. You can find my selected configuration in the attached table (total price about 2450 €).

My requirements profile:

Work / Multitasking: Fast performance for intensive office applications with many programs running simultaneously, plus basic CAD, CAM, and 3D print slicing.

Gaming: All modern games (from mid-range to high-end) at high to maximum settings with stable 60 FPS in 1440p.

Case: The more expensive Fractal Design North was deliberately chosen for purely aesthetic reasons.

Regarding this, I have three questions:

  1. Does this build make sense for my requirements, or can I save money sensibly in certain areas (such as CPU cooler, power supply, or motherboard) without performance dropping?
  2. Do I get better components for the same price range (approx. 2,500 €) if I directly buy a pre-built PC?
  3. Do I get the same performance as in my list for less money as a pre-built PC, or am I better off with building it myself?

Thanks!

Component Part Price [€]
Case Fractal Design North ATX Mid-Tower (includes 2 front intake fans) 127,46
RAM Viper Venom DDR5 32GB (2x16) 6000MHz CL30  509,99
SSD Kioxia Exceria Basic 2 TB BULK, SSD 234,90
CPU AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8 x 4.2GHz Octa Core Prozessor 281,89
GPU ASUS Prime Radeon RX 9070 XT OC Edition 16GB GDDR6 875,29
Mainboard MSI MAG B850 GAMING PLUS MAX WIFI, Mainboard 181,90
Power Supply be quiet! Pure Power 13 M 850W, PSU 119,90
CPU-Cooler be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 6, CPU-Kühler 89,90
Exhaust Fan (top) Fractal Design Aspect 14 PWM Black 140 mm 17,11
Exhaust Fan (rear) Fractal Design Aspect 12 PWM Black 120 mm 12,99

Total Price 2,451.33 €

Looking for a Mini-ITX PC

Basically the title.

I already have built custom PC's of my own before, rocking since a couple of years a RTX 4080 and an Intel I9-13900k with water cooling. Thing is I rock a glass case and its big and unwieldy, which makes it a nightmare if I want to join my friends for our lan-parties we regularly do with the whole setup of PC, Monitor and so on. Makes it also impossible for my new job I started where I gotta travel a lot.

So I've been looking in Laptops/Mini-ITX and so on, be it prebuild or self assembly. Thing is between all the different creators, sites and so on I am a bit lost what really is 'worth' to go for in a Mini build.

So I came here to ask all of you to maybe give me some pointers.

I got somewhat of a medicore Budget (for today's standards) I just want a PC that can handle all types of games (within reason for a mini-itx I suppose) Can be upwards of 5000€.
