Nursing help

I am in preceptorship, I am so fucking exhausted. Mentally , and emotionally I’ve been struggling. I’ve had to take a week off due to my health and it’s just been awful. The 12 hours has been tough for me. The unit itself, the nurses, irs just making me question this profession and carrier. I have 5 weeks to go u til I am done.

I didn’t expect us to have to do homework doing precpeorship.. the 2 hr debriefs are taxing. You don’t really get a full recovery.

Any tips would be appreciated or words of encouragement.

BCIT nursing rejection - should I choose KPU or wait for Langara?

new to reddit so bear with me😭

I was rejected from bcit nursing for January 2027 intake, (4.21 gpa but low credits). after reading about how they prefer high credits/applicants with bachelor’s, I don’t have high hopes for the upcoming intakes as I have not been taking additional courses to focus on work and save up money (a mistake in hindsight lol). I could still apply for april 2027 and september 2027, but won’t have additional credits fully completed by their application deadlines, so I don’t think my odds are good. I’m pretty discouraged, but trying to explore other options.

my next program choices are Langara and KPU.
I already meet kpu’s requirements, so I applied for september 2027. I would have to apply for langara january 2028 intake as I’m missing 2 of their prereqs, which I will take in winter.

If i do get accepted to kpu in fall 2027, im not sure if i should take the seat or wait and try for langara instead?
I feel like I’ve wasted time and want to start asap, but I also want to choose a program I’m happy with.

I’ve heard good things about Langara, but I haven’t seen as much recent discussion about kpu’s nursing program, so I’d love to hear from anyone who’s currently in either program or has experience with them.

Is there a big difference between the two programs in terms of the learning experience, clinical placements, or overall reputation?
do you think waiting an extra 4 months for langara is worth it, or would you accept a kpu offer if you got one?

any advice or insight would be appreciated! :)

Upgrading Programs

I am planning to register for the Physics 11 and technical mathematics upgrading courses as pre-requisites to hopefully go into the sonography program at BCIT. Has anybody taken these? Any advice on the course and the course load it self? and would you recommend getting the course materials second hand, if possible? Is it possible to have a FT job while doing these courses? I know that’s probably subjective, but what worked for you? TIA

Chances in Nuclear Medicine program??

Hi everyone so im a 24f in my last yr of undergrad majoring in physics with a minor in Math. I came across NMT at the start of this year n found this program very interesting since I am also interested in cancer research and medical physics. During that time the program was first apply first accept model but just recently they made it competitive entry.

I am a little nervous n worried as there are only 20 seats and I was desperately wanting to secure a seat for sept 2027 cohort but now I don't know what my chances are like.

I don't have direct medical experience on my belt but I have a lot of volunteering and leadership experience with a few academic research projects. My high school average was about 95% and currently my uni gpa is about 75%. I was just wondering what do u think my chances would be like? Are the applications generally very competitive or do I have a good chance?

Any suggestions would be helpful thanks!

Sonography Program

Hi! I’m a 23F looking into the sonography program at BCIT. Just looking for any insight and things to keep in mind or advice. I have read quite a bit of forums on here talking about the career itself and I think it would be a great career for me despite of the high risk of injury. I work currently as a dental receptionist and have thoroughly enjoy the patient care aspect of my job. Being a part of the hospital/healthcare system is something I’ve always considered as well (I’m Filipino lol). Along with the benefits of working in a union, pension, wages, benefits etc. (that my current job doesn’t offer), I do also find the problem solving aspect of the career attractive.

I’m worried/ intimidated as my highest level of education is high school and I didn’t have excellent grades on my last year— peak covid times so it was a difficult time mentally… I also didn’t take physics 12 so I’m not sure how to go about that. I am going to attend the expo this evening to see if I can get more info that way as well! Are there any tips that anyone can recommend for me to start on? Is it worth for me to try to get into? Do I need volunteer hours?

Brutally honest opinions are welcomed hahaha. I appreciate it!

Any BCIT students or alumni interested in joining a community volunteer group?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently finishing up my last semester at BCIT, and I wanted to reach out to see if anyone here might be interested in joining a small volunteer initiative I'm getting started.

I'm a social services professional, and I've been working on bringing together people who want to help address food insecurity in our communities. The hope is to support people who may be struggling, whether that's individuals experiencing homelessness, newcomers, or lower-income families who are having a difficult time making ends meet.

I've wanted to get something like this off the ground for a while now. The idea is to start small, bring together some good people, organize meaningful projects, and hopefully grow into something that can make a lasting difference.

I'm Punjabi and born and raised here in BC, and a lot of my motivation comes from seva, the idea of helping others without expecting anything in return. Everyone is welcome, regardless of background.

Current BCIT students, former students, and alumni are all more than welcome to join. I'd love to have people with different experiences and skills involved, and there's plenty of room for members to contribute their own ideas.

I also understand that people are busy with school, work, and other responsibilities, so there's no expectation of a huge time commitment.

If you're interested, please send me a DM and I'll happily share the QR code for our Signal group!

freezing during a test?

I don’t know if it’s just me but I have a serious problem with taking tests and I don’t know why. It’s been a little over a month into this semester and I’ve had about 4 exams now. I only felt “comfortable” taking one of them. The other 3 I seriously just stared at the question and repeated it over and over in my head but I wasn’t actually thinking (if that makes sense lol). The worst part is after the exam is done I’ll think about the questions and how I know how to do the problems easily, I study well yet during the test it’s like I can’t think straight and my vision gets blurry. Maybe it just sounds like i’m coping about not doing as well as I want to but I don’t know how to fix this. I haven’t done any school since Highschool (graduated 2021) so maybe it’s because it’s been so long? I wasn’t like this in Highschool though.

Anyone else dealt with this kind of thing before? It’s seriously annoying.

chance at MLS - UofT student

Hi!
I'm a uoft student who just entered third year (half my credits completed) with a 2.75cgpa. (i know i know not the best)
What are the chances of me getting into the bcit medical laboratory science program with a human bio degree at uoft with a 2.8~3.1 cgpa at the end of my four years here?
For people who applied after completing their undergrad, what was your cgpa?

Big Info Night Question

I am looking over the email i got for registering to go, and I see for the program I want to apply of they list tour only for the time I am able to be there for. Does that mean you can tour the lab or whatever but you wont be able to ask program people or advisors for the program questions? that is the main reason i wanted to go, so i could talk to them in person.

CST Program

I’m from another province and institution and I was looking at BCIT in hopes of transferring to their CST program. Will anybody be able to tell me how the CST program is like in BCIT? Maybe a comparison of the Burnaby and Downtown campuses as well?

First-year BCIT student struggling despite studying for hours

I’m a first-year BCIT student in one of the business programs, and I’m honestly scared I’m going to fail almost all my classes.
I got good grades in high school, and I think I have pretty good study habits, but university has been a lot harder than I expected. I recently got into an accident that’s been affecting my ability to study. I’ve already taken steps to get help with it, but so far, there doesn’t seem to be much that helps.
I study at least 5 hours a day, every day, and I feel like I’m putting so much effort into my classes. For example, I studied for 3 days straight for a quiz that was supposed to be pretty simple, and I still failed. Meanwhile, some of my classmates barely studied and passed or got good marks.
I genuinely don’t know what I’m doing wrong. It’s really discouraging to spend so much time studying and still not see results. I’m starting to worry that maybe I’m just not cut out for this, even though I know I’m trying my best.
Has anyone else experienced something like this at BCIT? What helped you improve your grades? I’m open to any advice on study methods, managing the workload, or just getting through the first year.

Studying and still almost failing!

Hello, I'm a second year here, so I just got my ECON 2100 test back, and I barely passed with a 53% mark, which is horrendous for a first midterm. I studied the material, did a practice test, hired a tutor, and was doing well in my tutoring lessons, but I barely passed any advice or tips?

My next midterm is in November, but I find that each time I "think" I'm ready for an exam, I score even lower. I even underestimate myself, but now, like, wtf, I even went wrong! Do you think it's worth emailing the instructor about the things I got wrong?

Radiography program switched to BC residents only?

Hello I’m from Ontario and have been interested in the radiography program at BCIT since last year. I went to the info session and everything while I was in Vancouver and got relevant admission questions answered. I was planning to apply during the next intake (Feb) and went back to check the website and it says this program is only available to BC residents now. Is this a new change for this application cycle?

Split enrolment?

Hi bcit! Sorry for barging in from sfu here🗿

i want to take a gap semester from sfu to take explore a one semester long program at bcit for the winter(classes start jan), and i plan to not do any transferring of any credits between the two unis whatsoever.

Has anyone done this? If so, do I need to get a split enrolment status from SFU or BCIT and notify either institutions or can i just go ahead and do it? (I kind of also plan to do my indg requirement online from SFU and only that one course but only if im in a good mental state by jan)

This is from the SFU website:
"When students are enrolled at more than one post-secondary institution during the same study period, students can attain split enrolment status to accommodate situations where they are unable to obtain the necessary courses at one post-secondary institution and as a result are studying at more than one post-secondary institution during the same study period."
https://www.sfu.ca/students/financial-aid/undergraduate/degree-partnership.html
(From what I read abt this my situation is different since I don't plan to take courses from BCIT for the sake of my SFU program)

BCIT didn't have anything towards split enrolment, but if anyone knows please let me know!

(The StudentAid split enrolment popped up too, but I have some saved up to pay for tuition if its not worth the hassle for a grant)

Also, does this mess up your transcript? And when I apply to BCIT, do I need to submit my SFU transcript along with my HS transcript?

Past Averages for Civil Engineering Continuation/Co-op Admission

Hello everyone,

I'm a CE student in my first semester of my first year, and I'm just wondering what the past averages/percentages were to get admitted into the Civil Engineering continuation for the degree, as well as the co-op stream. I know the continuation has a "70% GPA requirement", but I highly doubt that someone with a flat 70 can get in. I know that the co-op stream is even more competitive.

Lowkey, my first grades don't look so well. I've been staying until 8pm almost everyday, and even left BCIT at 1:30am once (I live in Coquitlam). I also commute to campus on the weekends to study, and even skipped a couple family Thanksgiving dinners for it. First Math quiz I bombed, so I currently have an 80 in that class. For Graphical I got 72, but it's been only hand-drawn assignments so far, and I think I can get it up once we do AutoCAD. First Statics quiz I think I did decent, but we haven't gotten it back yet. I'm somewhere in the 90 range for Physics. Currently perfect for Comms and Surveying. Haven't really gotten a grade in the remaining courses. Overall, I think my GPA is in the low-mid 80s right now, but I want to keep my options open. I'm wondering if I'm truly cooked for the future, especially heading into midterms (especially scared for Hydrology).

Thank you!

Title: BCIT 4th Class Power Engineering Part B – Instructor PPTs

Hi everyone,
I’m a BCIT distance education student preparing for my 4th Class Power Engineering Part B exam. I was wondering if anyone has the PowerPoint slides provided by Instructor and would be willing to share them.
I’m finding it quite difficult to go through the PanGlobal textbook and capture every page for revision, especially with my Exam coming up this week.
The PowerPoints would be really helpful for reviewing the important topics and preparing for the exam.
I’d really appreciate any help or advice. Thanks in advance!

Thinking about applying to BCIT's Marine Engineering Diploma — anyone currently in it or recently graduated?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been looking into the Marine Engineering Diploma at BCIT as a high school student and considering applying for an upcoming intake. Before pulling the trigger, I wanted to get some real insight from current cadets or recent grads about how the application process and program vibe actually are.

A few specific questions I had:

1.) Admissions & Selection: I know it’s listed as competitive entry rather than first-come, first-served. For those who got accepted, what did your high school/trades math and English grades look like? Do they strictly weigh academic marks, or does the Mandatory Applicant Questionnaire carry a lot of weight?

2.) Experience & Background: Did most people in your cohort have prior sea time, trades experience (like automotive/heavy duty/machining), or marine industry connections? Or do plenty of people get in straight out of high school with standard background experience?

3.) Co-op & Sea Time: How are the seat phases/co-op placements structured? Does BCIT/Cadet Office help line up the berths with shipping companies, or are you mostly on your own?

General Vibe: How intense is the course load once you’re in, and is the commute to the North Van campus manageable for early morning labs/classes?

Appreciate any advice, stats, or tips on what helped your application stand out! Cheers
