This is a weekly Tuesday post for question/answers regarding properties in Austin or surrounding areas along with moving to Austin questions. The following are examples of items that should be asked in here (but not limited to just these):
Housing / Real Estate Questions
Moving to Austin Questions
Over the last year, we have seen a major uptick in prices in the area, along with a steady flow of new people coming into Austin. Use this weekly post to ask your questions, try to get advice, etc on an upcoming move or questions about real estate in Austin.
Many apartment questions have always been removed on here, and we always suggest people to contact an apartment locator. Those rules still stand. But, you are welcome to ask those questions on here if you still feel the need for it.
Along with that, any new open ended question on Austin properties and real estate will be removed and asked to move to here (based on mod discretion). Many of the questions being asked have been asked many times before, which is why we would rather compile these posts into one place for people to ask and get their answers.
If you are having issues as a tenant in Austin, we highly recommend reaching out to the Austin Tenants Council here: https://www.trla.org/atc/. They may be able to help you resolve issues related to renting property in Austin.
We also recommend searching older "Weekly Real Estate" posts as well, to find answers on previous week's questions.
As always, there is a whole section on moving to Austin in our FAQ page:

A stranger helped me change my tire downtown. Can we help him find work?
I was driving near 9th and Congress when I felt something wrong with my tire. At the stoplight, a guy sitting on a bench pointed it out: I was driving on the rim.
I pulled over, and before I could even figure out what to do, he was already helping me put on my spare.
His name is David. We talked while he worked, and I learned that heās currently homeless and was recently laid off. He said heād sent his rĆ©sumĆ© to about 26 companies in the past two days.
It took him just five minutes to change the tire. When he finished, he said, āAlright, youāre all set,ā and started walking away. He never asked for money.
I stopped him so I could send him some money through Cash App to thank him. But after hearing about his job search, I wanted to see if I could help with that, too.
David mentioned previously working for AAA and is looking for work, including custodial or maintenance jobs around Austin. I work remotely in software, so I donāt have an office where I can ask about an opening, but I do have his number.
If anyone knows of a custodial or maintenance position, or has another job lead I could pass along, please comment or message me.
He went out of his way to help a stranger on the side of the road. Iād love to return the favor.
This is why I love Austin.

A24's new documentary "You Can See Everything" follows Elizabeth Holmes and her partner in Austin.
The nearly three-hour film, co-directed by Lance Oppenheim and Nathan Fielder, follows Holmes and William āBillyā Evans as they prepare for her imprisonment, then picks up two years later as Evans settles into life in Austin and attempts to carry forward what he sees as Holmesā legacy.

Riot is hosting the 2027 Valorant International Champions event in Austin next year, from September 16-October 10.
The playoff stage will most likely be on the same weekends as ACL, so expecting a lot of traffic and tourists.
Probably will be in Moody Center, since the CSGO major was hosted there.

I was driving this morning and came across a brown, shaggy dog - appears to be in good health - but no collar and wandering through heavy morning traffic around 9am. I was able to successfully get him into my car.
If there are any leads on potential owners or immediate foster situations please reach out ASAP.

Hey yāall! Iām a local Austin artist š©āšØ , and I went to a creative networking event yesterday that honestly inspired me to get out there and find more communities in the creative space.
It wasnāt just artists, either. There were people working in film, production, marketing, and all kinds of other creative industries. It was really cool being around people who are passionate about what they do, and it reminded me how much Iād like to be more connected to that world.
Lately, Iāve been wanting to push myself and my art further, but Iāve felt a little stuck. I think meeting more people, exchanging ideas, and being around other creative minds could help with that.
Funny enough, my friends always tell me Iām a connector of people. I happen to know a lot of really rad people across different industries, and I genuinely love connecting people when I see an opportunity. But when it comes to putting myself out there and finding the connections Iām looking for, Iām not as good at it š
Iād love to hear where people in Austinās creative community are finding their people. Are there any meetups, events, groups, or spaces youāve enjoyed? Iām interested in connecting with all kinds of creatives, whether youāre an artist, filmmaker, photographer, musician, designer, producer, or something else entirely.
Would love to meet more good people doing cool things around Austin!

Hey guys, if you missed it, the court finally approved the $28 million settlement between National Instruments Corporation and its investors over issues they had a few years ago. Hereās a quick recap.
In 2023, National Instruments was accused of repurchasing its own stock while allegedly possessing nonpublic information about acquisition offers from Emerson Electric Co. Investors claimed that shareholders who sold during those repurchases were not informed about the acquisition interest and sold their shares at artificially depressed prices.
After this information came to light, investors filed a lawsuit over their losses.
The good news is that the company recently agreed to settle $28 million with them, and the court has approved this settlement.
So, if you sold National Instruments stock in 2022, you can check the details and file your claim here.
Anyway, has anyone here sold National Instruments stock at that time? How much were your losses, if so?

I just had Waymo cancel a ride because it started raining hard. In my human uber home I noticed that other self driving vehicles types were parked with hazard lights on, seemingly waiting out the rain. I also noticed more than 10 cyber cabs in a 10 minute ride were still driving, both with and without customers.
Tesla refuses to adopt lidar and is 100% less safe in the rain but apparently has the policy of driving in weather anyways.
I want autonomous cars, I am 100% for the technology, but I do not like the risk for no reason that cybercabs take. Just freaking adopt Lidar.

I've lived in Austin for years and never really noticed them. But the past few weeks I've seen at least one every other day inside my apartment. It's a bit unsettling. Is this normal for this time of year or is something else going on?

Love seeing all these quad engine heavies stopping by in Austin to deliver all the F1 gear. Will never get tired of seeing these giants. This is the 1 month a year where thereās a rotation of these almost daily. Singapore Cargo, Cargolux, Silkway, Atlas, National.
