I know similar questions to this are asked a LOT on here - but I am visiting Toronto this fall for a single day trip (less than 12 hours), and am looking for local advice on the actual "must-dos" and what activities I should cut or reconsider.
I'm looking for a quintessential Toronto day, which to me means a blend of touristy sites but also some (reasonably located) local spots. If I had to compare to NYC, an ideal trip would be to see Times Square and the Empire State Building while also getting to explore to UWS and hit some good restaurants/cafes in the same day.
My plan right now looks like:
- Union Station/St. Lawrence Market/Berczy Park/Gooderham Building
- Distillery District to Waterfront/HTO Park
- Take TTC to Trinity Bellwoods Park/Queen St West area
- Walk back towards the downtown to Nathan Phillips Sq and see the CN tower
- Back to Union Station
Anything I should add/cut in your personal opinion? I love to walk and will walk further if necessary. I have no ideas on food/cafes to hit yet in any of these areas...
Also, I'm looking to hit as many quintessential spots as I can. I'm wanting to go to Tim Horton's, but are there any other chain foods/cafes/etc. that Canadians/Toronto-ians love? Thinking something similar to Greggs in Britain.
Any and all recs are welcome. Can't wait to see your city (even if it is for less than 12 hours)
