Announcement Wiki editors and maintainers wanted!

Hey folks, r/askseattle and our team over at /r/Seattle are looking for folks to help us build, update, and maintain our wiki and sidebar content. The /r/Seattle wiki was once a boon of information for new visitors and locals alike, but the subreddit has grown and sites/businesses have come and gone. Our mods are busy moderating and the wiki is collecting cobwebs.

I'm reaching out to members of this community specifically as you are most likely to benefit from (or be knowledgeable about) this content space. This community is entirely based around helping visitors and residents alike find answers to questions that frequently get buried / reported / removed for being duplicates in r/seattle due to the size and velocity of other posts.

If you're interested in helping us out, here are some details:

  • The main areas of work are obviously the wikis on this subreddit and r/seattle
  • You'll be working with the mods here and r/seattle to help decide the organization and categorization of wiki pages, and how we add content / posts / etc to them
  • You will not be asked to moderate, so no need for moderation or wiki experience
  • The only requirements are a post history shows activity in either this subreddit or in r/seattle that we can trust with edit access to our wiki

If you're interested, shoot a message to the mods here or the seattle sub - these links have the title all filled out for you - or just send me a message or comment here.

Cheers!

Recommendation Can any trans people suggest a great PCP?

Hey Seattle!

Im new to Seattle and trying to settle in with a healthcare provider. I’m looking for a doctor that I can get HRT through. I’ve been struggling with hormone imbalances since a previous doctor switched me to a strange hormone regime (I don’t think she knew what she was doing). I’m wondering if anyone can suggest a PCP that they have worked with who is reliable and possibly helped someone get to the other side of a hormone imbalance in the process?

Question Refill Store?

Hey friends, where are we going to get refills of cleaning products or personal care items? Things like lotion, dish soap or laundry detergent.

I searched and the last time this question was asked on this subreddit was 6 years ago, and the world has changed since then. It feels like there are choices (and actual competition) in PDX, but the Recology Store’s couple of locations are the only ones I’m aware of here. Am I missing something?

Recommendation Recommendations for an affordable wellness retreat or getaway?

• Upvotes

A close friend is going through a major life transition, looking for a place for them to unwind, reset and recharge. ( spa not required!)

Nature - calm- good food - some physical activity.

Any reasonable/ affordable recommendations from personal experience? Would love to hear about places that genuinely helped you feel refreshed.

What are some of your favorite underrated small businesses?

This was posted on r:/seattle by someone who apparently is a spammer and got removed. (Not me!) I liked the question and the early answers. Here's mine: Turntables and Trails on Lake City Way. Your source for used stereo equipment and used outdoor gear under the same roof. Because, why not?

What are your quirky businesses or other overlooked favorites that deserve more attention?

Question Mexican food (specific request)

I moved here earlier in the spring from El Paso, TX and was curious about restaurants in the area that make Mexican food similar to how they make it down there!

For anyone that knows ep I’m thinking somewhere akin to L&J’s, Kikis, Carlos and Mickeys, etc. Not particularly the “best” or most authentic Mexican food available here- just something that can scratch a specific itch I have :)

Recommendation Fall hike accessible via transit.

• Upvotes

Hey folks I want to see some *color* before November rolls around and all the leaves drop. I don’t own a car so looking for spots that are accessible via transit for a long day trip. My plan is to do that this weekend or next.

If all else fails I do know about the arboretum is wonderful this time of year or swinging by discovery park. Just looking for more options outside of the immediate city.

I have a heart issue so im not going to be hiking but I do want to visit the national park. Thanks y'all!

Question Lotte hotel breakfast

• Upvotes

Thinking about booking this hotel for next weekend. It looks like it’s a first class hotel. It comes with breakfast for two each morning. Does anybody know if that’s a buffet? Evidently, I can’t find on the hotel menu breakfast
Second question: what’s the best way to get to Lumen Stadium from there as we’re coming in for the Seahawks versus Kansas City Chiefs game.

I assume that the hotel is walking distance to General tourist attractions, the Chihuly Museum, Pikes Market, we also want to go to tour Boeing, we know that that would be a long Uber ride unless there’s other types of service to get there from the hotel area, would like to find that out.

Discussion Best sights or activities to do in an evening in/near Seattle?

So long story short, i got a couple days here for a conference so I’ll only have evenings free. I’ve spent 2 summers in Seattle, so I’ve done the basic stuff like pike place and the space needle, but I’m curious if there’s any more “niche” places, restaurants, or activities that yall could recommend that could be done in an evening? No worry about transportation, I used to take the buses at 11pm when I interned here 😭

Suggestions for places to visit in December

I will be visiting Seattle for the first time in early December and will not be renting a car. I have decided that public transportation will work for what I like to do. Any suggestions for how to use public transportation would be greatly appreciated. I only have buses where I live, and a lot of it will be new to me.

So far, I plan to visit some of the tourist attractions like the Space Needle, Chihuly Garden, Pike Place, and a few other big attractions in that immediate area. I am looking for other things to do, especially later in the day, that are not drinking or hiking. I am considering a ghost tour and the Museum of Illusions. I think I will be there for the Seattle Christmas Market. I would like to take a boat tour of some kind and would like recommendations. Really looking for tours, shopping, shows, science, or space stuff. I think I saw something about wooden boat tours? I can't find it now. I would like other holiday-themed things that might be happening in the area too. I am not worried about food, as I just make sure to try new places as I go. Whales would be really cool to see as well if they are in the area around that time.

Suggestions appreciated

Recommendation Best area for thrifting/ vintage shopping?

I’ll be in Seattle for the first time next month and I’m really looking forward to it! I want to make a point of doing some thrifting for clothing while I’m there. Ideally I’d love to go somewhere where I can walk around a little and hit multiple shops. My searching so far says Capitol Hill but I’d love to hear some real people opinions. Where should I go?

Diamond Parking Lot?

Hello! I read other threads on Diamond Parking Lot, where people said they simply don't pay the ticket.

I grew up in Seattle and remember when we actually had parking lots that weren't charging an arm and leg or were free.

I feel Diamond is such a scourge in the community.

That being said, I got a parking ticket for being in a lot literally 5 minutes.

It was in a rental car though... do they have a way to track and enforce this other than the plates?

Should I pay it in case they somehow contact the rental company, or just do nothing? Rental has already been returned.

Recommendation 18+ Raves

Does anyone know of any 18+ raves happening this weekend (or just before 10/20) ? I have a friend who's visiting me and he really wants to go to a rave, but I'm not really a raver so I don't have any connections to find any LOL. We're also both 20 and don't have fakes as of rn, so it's got to be an 18+ event. We're in CapHill, so that be the most ideal, but as long as public transport can take us there we're open to all suggestions.

It may be a long shot, but I figured it doesn't hurt to ask. Thanks!!

Karaoke - Rentals, Slow bars?

Looking for somewhere to do Karaoke with a gaggle of folks. So far we have about 10 people wanting to go. Most of us live in Northgate or outside of Seattle (towards Tacoma) so anywhere between Tacoma and Northgate would be good.

We are thinking about Round 1 since it's so far been the cheapest, but we're open to ideas.

Small fiber neuropathy

I know this is a long shot, but I was recently diagnosed with small fiber neuropathy and would love any recommendations of neurologists that can help support me.

I’ve done my research and this is a condition that’s not very well understood. I’m looking to seek care from someone that specializes in this.

Thank you!

What should the moving cost be from the Midwest to Seattle?

Relocating for work. Shipping the car, flying in. Quotes range $950 to $1,300 for the same sedan. Is that spread normal for midwest to Pacific Northwest.
