Recommendation Sit-down restaurants that are actually reliably open near the CD?

• Upvotes

I’m far enough south in the CD that I’m close to Jackson but I have to walk down (and then back up) the mountain to reach my apartment if I want to go to the hub of beautiful Vietnamese restaurants (pho bac my beloved). I’m disabled, so this is not something I can do reliably or safely unless I take a bus!

However, regular light exercise is encouraged and important for my health, and I want to support the businesses in my direct neighborhood.

The other day I went out with my bf and every restaurant we tried to enter was either not open (despite online hours saying otherwise), permanently closed, or a quick-service grab-and-go situation. We probably walked at least 5 blocks off Jackson and found nothing.

Any place you might recommend that we could walk to nearby? One of my favorites is Minna, if that’s helpful. ☺️

Seattle high-rise apartments — REN, McKenzie, ONNI, Seattle House, Kaye, or Ivey on Boren?

Hi everyone! My partner and I are in our late 20s and are looking to rent a high-rise apartment in Seattle. We're trying to narrow down our options and would love to hear from people who currently live in these buildings or have lived in them before.

Our shortlist is:

  • REN
  • McKenzie
  • ONNI
  • Seattle House
  • Kaye
  • Ivey on Boren

We're looking for a place that feels modern, has good amenities, and offers a nice overall living experience as a couple in our late 20s.

A few things we'd love to know:

  • Building quality: How is the soundproofing? Can you hear neighbors, footsteps, or street noise?
  • Management: How responsive is management, and how are maintenance requests handled?
  • Amenities: Are the gym, pool, lounge, and other amenities actually worth it?
  • Location: Which building has the best balance?
  • Safety: How comfortable do you feel walking around the neighborhood, especially in the evenings?
  • Apartment experience: How are the views, natural light, elevators, parking, and overall upkeep?
  • Value: Which building offers the best experience for the rent?

If you had to choose one of these buildings to live in for the next year or two, which would you pick, and which would you avoid?

I'd especially appreciate feedback from current or former residents rather than just leasing-office reviews. Any experiences, pros and cons, or things you wish you'd known before signing a lease would be super helpful.

Thanks!

Seeking dog friendly beaches or secluded outings

Our beloved dog is battling cancer and we’ve recently been told he likely only has a few months left. He’s only been to the beach once but he absolutely loved it. We’d like to take him back while he can still run around and enjoy it.

Because he’s going through chemo, he can’t go places like a dog park or interact with other dogs.

We live in Seattle, does anyone know of any beach areas within 4-6 hours drive that may be secluded enough a dog could run around (ideally maybe even off leash very very briefly, like 15-20 mins) without running into a lot of other dogs? He’s a little guy and the most gentle soul, but we’d keep him on leash if there was any risk of bothering anyone. We’d just love to give him a running on the beach experience.

Appreciate any advice. Also open to any other suggestions for interesting local outings for dogs that wouldn’t be too crowded. We just want to give him the best few months we can. Thank you!

Question Looking for a good shop for guitar service/repair

Recently took my guitar into a well-reviewed shop I found on google. I wanted to have some new pickups installed because I was intimidated by the electronics in it and was afraid I'd mess it up if I tried to do it myself.

Well, I got the guitar back yesterday. I don't know what they did, but it is all kinds of borked. The intonation is a mess, the 1st fret has a ton of buzz it never had before, and even when it's in tune it sounds horrible (particularly the lower frets). The bridge pickup sounds awful, like they wired something wrong on the tone switch, and there's a constant static, crackling noise when I have the guitar plugged in that makes me think they either didn't solder it correctly or damaged the volume pot. I don't want to take it back to that shop and ask them to fix it because they somehow managed to mess up my guitar this badly just doing a pickup installation. I'd never trust them with setup or neck adjustments.

tl;dr I need a good guitar repair shop I can take it to to figure out what the hell these people did with it and (hopefully) get it fixed. I've heard great things about Emerald City Guitars, but they told me they can really only do vintage stuff as far as electronics are concerned

EDIT: Should've specified, it's an electric guitar. Baritone, if that matters at all

Question Osechi for New Years

I want to be able to reserve Osechi (Japanese new years Meal) for New Years Day. Typically where I'm from they would start taking reservations now but I don't see any from the main places I would suspect. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Edit: I have tried contacting Uwajimaya and a couple other restaurants and have not heard a response in the past few weeks so I'm reaching out here.

Where to go for the best mushroom dishes

I never considered myself a fan of mushrooms until I recently had the pleasure of eating a mushroom dish at Off Alley. Turns out I love mushrooms just not the grocery store crap

Where do I need to eat to find the best of mushroom season?

Recommendation Recs for an art party?

I’m hoping to reserve a space for me and my friends/family to do some art next march for my birthday, and I’m wondering if anyone has a place they’ve been to that they like? Ideally it won’t be too expensive, like if it’s possible to do it for less than $300 that would be awesome, but that might be an unrealistic goal.

Any local advent calendars for 2026?

Hey all,

I love buying unique advent calendars and wondering if anyone knows of any Seattle (or Washington) local businesses that make and sell their own?

Usually around this time businesses will start taking pre-orders. Open to any type of goods.

I've done the advent calender from Bakery Nouveux (which was awesome, highly suggest)

Recommendation Seattle VS Vancouver for 2.5 day trip?

Hello!

I am planning a solo trip to either Seattle or Vancouver BC for early next summer.

I like to go to thrift/antique stores, bookstores, trinket stores, etc. I also love museums, oddities, location specific activities.

Which city would be the better one to go to? I'm from California if that matters!

Question Things to do Halloween weekend?

Hello! I’m strongly considering flying to Seattle from the Midwest for the first time Halloween weekend. I’m in my mid 20s and will be visiting by myself. Wanted to just post on this sub and see if there’s any costume contests or other fun events to check out that weekend that are relatively affordable. I’m super into music and anything horror related. Not trying to spend a fortune on any big music festivals though.

In addition, what’s the weather like around Halloween? Any additional tips on visiting for a weekend are valued. Thanks

Questioning our apartment billing

We moved here a year ago to an apartment that got bought out by a bigger company soon after. The new company has been shady to say the least and a lot of people are filing complaints and leaving.
Here’s my question:
This was our billing for this month
$1999 base rent
$120 for garage
$10.95 for LLIP
$35.14 for Water
$73.81 for trash
$90.74 for sewer
$3 pest control
$120.28 for electricity (we pay directly to Seattle city light so I’m confused why I’m also paying this to our apartment?)
$55 in admin fee and sales tax
We ended up paying a shade under $2700 for the month.
Needless to say, it has been a shock to go from $1999 to $2700 every month. Is this normal for around here? It’s our first time living in a city

Edit: I should add too. This place was kinda crappy when we came. Everything was old and worn down but that was the point. We were happy to pay for and live in that environment. This new company slapped a paint coat over everything. Renovated some of the apartments. They now call it luxury. Nothing has materially changed about the property or units aside from a mild face lift.

Recommendation Places with good lighting for night time photography?

Hello! I’m looking for recommendations for places around Seattle that would be nice and bright enough for some photos at night (past 7 PM)! This would be for a marriage proposal, so it’d be nice if it wasn’t a super busy place. In my head, was hoping for something similar to Urban Light in LA. Thanks in advance!

Motorcycle parking at link stations

Does anyone have a full list of all the stations that have motorcycle parking spots?

I've seen them at Shoreline South (only two spots) and South Bellevue (like 8 spots) but I'm not sure where else.

TIA!

Looking for advice. ☕️

I’m going through a huge career change. I left my job with the support of my amazing spouse to pursue a career in coffee. I found an amazing program through Goodwill, met some incredible people, and had a teacher who genuinely poured into our little cohort. Now I’ve got some foundational knowledge, mock café experience, and an updated resume. In the words of our savior SpongeBob "I'm Ready!"

The problem? I’ve submitted countless applications through Indeed and Poached, and I’ve only heard back from two different places, three times total. I’ve answered questions, responded to recruiting teams, and tried my best to get my foot in the door, but I can’t seem to make it to the interview stage. Most of the responses I get are essentially, “We decided to move forward with another candidate,” without ever having the opportunity to meet me.

So, I’m genuinely asking: Is it REALLY possible to get a barista job in Seattle right now if you can’t even get an interview? Are coffee shops primarily hiring through referrals and word of mouth, or am I missing something? Is it just this competitive, or are some shops a little cliquey?

One shop actually reached out to ME twice, only to turn me down without even offering an in-person interview. 🥲 I’m trying not to take it personally, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t discouraging.

A little about me: I moved to Seattle about 10 months ago from the South (the Deep South, heh heh 😈 iykyk) with my spouse and pets, and we absolutely love it here! I have over 10 years of experience in operations, customer service, and customer retention. I’ve also taken the initiative to get my Food Worker Card and MAST permit on my own, in addition to completing my barista training program.

I’m kind, genuinely funny (at least I think so 😂), and passionate about creating unique, welcoming experiences for customers. I know I’m new to the coffee industry, and I’m not expecting anyone to hand me a job. I’m just looking for an opportunity to learn, grow, and prove myself.

For those of you working in Seattle cafés, how did you get your foot in the door? Should I be walking into shops with my resume, focusing on smaller independent cafés, networking, or doing something else entirely?

I’m genuinely open to advice because I really want to make this career change work. Any tips, leads, or words of wisdom are very much appreciated. ✌️

Looking for any extra electric guitar parts for fiance to make from scratch, "can't afford one a.t.m"

Hello, I am looking for donated materials to help my fiancé build this electric guitar from scratch, as a store-bought instrument is out of our budget right now, and had been for quite some time.

He is a beautiful guitar player with no guitar... If you have any leftover woodworking supplies, old guitar electronics, or hardware taking up space, we would love to give them a second life. We are looking for: • Lumber scraps: Thicker pieces of maple, ash, alder, mahogany, walnut, or oak suitable for a guitar body. • Electronics/Hardware: Pickups, knobs, wiring, jacks, tuning keys, or an electric bridge. • Tools: Wood clamps, wood files/rasps, chisels, or a soldering iron. • Project guitars: Any old, broken, or cheap electric guitars we can salvage for parts.

We are located in the Seattle [he was hit and disabled by a drink driver over 10 years ago so we can't travel too far] but will come pick them up at your convenience. Thank you for your time and generosity.

I hope I posted this correctly, if not.... please ignore 🙏
