Media Went into pve mode to finish a quest and encountered this rat.

He placed a pulse mine at the top of the tower and made me fall. I knew what he was trying to do but wasn’t 100% sure about his intentions.
I kept talking to him on my way to the hatch. Once I called him out, he got mad so easily I think I hurt his fragile ego when I asked “Do you want my loot?”

Forced pve takes away any reason for a lot of players to act nice. They can no longer be punished by the lobby

u/Tylerdurdenps5 17h ago
I tried pve mode 3 or 4 times and it’s just not for me. Even fewer people use emotes or mics. It feels soulless.
I was just trying it out and thought I’d give a previously glitched quest another shot to see if they fixed it.
But I think this was my last time playing pve mode. I’m going back to normal lobbies.87
u/re_alt0910 17h ago
As a PVE player i honestly found in a little slow for me, not as much loot and too quiet. As pissed as i get when people camp at extracts and rat you out, that tension in the air really adds a "zest" to it.
20
u/cootenheimer 14h ago
"not as much loot" to me is good because normally 2 minutes into the match and my bags are already full. Then I start my selective looting. So I like the fewer loot ops that make the available loot spots more important. imo.

u/re_alt0910 12h ago
The only thing that sucks here is that finding a specific item because even more of a challenge

Which quest? I’m doing them all this run, have like 114 done and haven’t encountered a glitched quest
7
u/Tylerdurdenps5 16h ago
It’s one of the newer quests called “When Everything Falls.” You have to go to the room at the top of the tower in Spaceport and take a picture. The problem is that for me and some other players, the quest is bugged. Even after taking the picture, the objective doesn’t register as completed.
You should still give it a try though. Not everyone has this issue.6
u/AffectionateOkra5182 7h ago
Not my experience. I'm only playing PVE now (I'm afraid that ABMM is not working at all during this test) and I had an amazing time cooperating with a lot of players, especially returning players (for the PvE test) and had a great amount of fun. Yes, also a lot of loot goblins... but this is something that could be fixed I think, at least for the room that requires a key.

u/Blqstoisey 15h ago
It 100% feels soulless. Even when loot goblins come out and try to take your shit and you go on prox to make fun of them, they all just stay silent. It's so weird and the game just has a slimy feel - nobody talking and everybody doing anything they can to steal other people's loot
7
u/Former_Performer9349 8h ago
I gave a guy a rocketeer driver and then he helped me fight a bastion. He falls and dies to the bastion right before it goes down. He doesn’t have survivor and we are near extract but I don’t have but 3 herbals left.
Another guy shows up and starts looting the bastion. Whatever. I try to get the guy to extract because I’m a nice person. But I don’t have anymore bandages. Loot goblin McGee is not helping stabilize him for obvious reasons.
Downed raider finally collapses, and loot goblin McGee loots him. I’m just like “alright dude you already got my bastion and I gave that guy some stuff but whatever”
While he’s looting I call the button on the train and he’s telling me to wait. I hit him with a “kindly fuck off.”
It’s all you can do. Unless you have bull rush, that is.
Sometimes it’s not about the loot it’s about the principle. I mean obviously I didn’t have to give anyone anything but I didn’t need it. I was mainly there for research.

Can I bring something up that I honestly don’t see brought up enough?
What’s the end goal with playing PvE only? I’m genuinely not being snarky or anything, I mean it completely seriously. What’s the things you’re doing in PvE only that make you want to stay? How does that affect your future-play?
Because, from my understanding of everything people who’re just dead set on PvE only it seems very, very, very limited in future-fun.
Right now it’s great(ish). Easy loot. Just some Arc. No biggie. But what happens in like, 3 weeks? You’ll already have your good loot, you’ll already have destroyed countless Arc. You’ll likely have gone through the story content (which is honestly kinda mid from a writing perspective, but that’s just personal opinion), done a bunch of the ranked task things, and hell maybe you even do a reset.
What happens then? What happens when you hit the “endgame” after you’ve been able to just obliterate a Matriarch? Do you just… keep stocking up on Rusted Gears and Arc parts?
Arc just seems like such a shallow game for people to be this invested in PvE.

You kidding?
I’m decent in a firefight, but I’m no John Wick. Taking people down was never a huge problem for me, and usually the PvP was fun.
But when I’d run across another player it was like the both of us would be acting on our best behavior.
“Hello Raider, don’t get spooked, I’m right over here by this little hut.” “Oh hey, didn’t notice you at first, what’s up? You looking for anything in particular?”
Being extra polite and helpful in hopes that, whatever they ARE looking for, I can guide them towards IT and not my corpse.
But bro, having absolutely no means of dealing with people like this? It sounds cancerous. I don’t want to play a mode where…
I genuinely should not use keys. You know, the things that give you some of the best loot in the game.
I can have people flock around me, throwing Arc lures, getting me killed, while I have literally nothing I can do to stop them.
I can have people use the environment to kill me, circumnavigating the no PvP.
I could kill literally any Arc in the game and if Jimmy-Bob McZoom gets to my kill first, he gets the loot.
So if I were to play PvE, honestly, I’d be doing literally all of these things. Why? Best loot farm in the entire game, hands down. Free loot from things someone else kills, I can literally not use a single resource to get materials. Keys? Nah, I’ll just take what YOU wanted because, again, that’s conserving a resource and besides… what are you gonna do about it anyway? Can’t shoot me, and the most that’ll happen is maybe a Reddit/Insta post about it. Oh no. Killing people with the environment? Sign me up. Chances are if you’re in the lobby you’ve got something I would want, and, yet again, you have literally no means of stopping me.
People are genuinely fools if they’re NOT taking advantage of this stuff while the mode is out.
It’s literally tons of reward potential with literally no risk.

There really are people that spend their time doing this lmao

This was my experience yesterday. Played heavily all day. My teammate and I figured we'd test PVE and use the lobbies to farm materials on bigger Arc. Any time we (and by we i mean just the 2 of us) took anything bigger than a firefly down people who had no skin in the fight would swarm it. We didn't even bother trying the Queen or Matriarch like we planned. After about the 4th time on seperate runs we gave up and decided to go back to PVPVE lobbies which are normally far more carebear than not. After several runs of just pure KOS TDM coming our way we decided to do PVE for supplies, weekly trials, and help finish quests until this PVE toggle trial is over.
If I wanted to play pure PVP I have better games for that. If I want to play pure coop pve I have better games for that. Arc does neither spectacularly on their own but the pairing of the 2 is what makes it special. If my choices are just PVP or just PVE going forward Im out.

u/msfamf 13h ago
I understand the desire for a PVE mode but I really feel like it's a monkey's paw situation here. People can say they love it all they want but I'm pretty sure they'll get tired of it fast. Between the griefers, loot thieves, and all around lack of challenge they'll either be fed up or have done everything there is to do in short order. There's only so many "fixes" to those issues that can be done before the game becomes a totally different game than was shipped or just becomes Helldivers with an Arc Raiders skin over it.
I love my mostly carebear lobbies where I still get into some shit now and then because I can still largely just do my own thing and occasionally briefly team up to do something bigger or help someone out. There is no forced getting along. We get along because we want to but at the same time if some vulture decides that even though I soloed a bully he's entitled to my loot I can at least make them work for it.
2
u/specter800 9h ago
I'm pretty sure they'll get tired of it fast
They will and they won't care because they'll go find another game they don't like to try and force into a mold it was never designed for. You've hit the nail on the head in your earlier comment and I've mentioned it before but got downvoted: neither PVE or PVP in ARC are very good in isolation; they're passable. The PvE is too predictable and easy while PvP isn't tight enough or varied enough to really hold interest.
ARC is a perfect example of a game that is more than the sum of its parts because of the social interactions. ABMM really hurt them by forcing people to extremes and a full PvE mode splits an already divided playerbase even further. I stopped playing when the social aspect pretty much disappeared. I was either farming blueprints to donate to others in carebear lobbies or I was bogged down in sweatland KOS PvP lobbies, there was no in between and no fun interactions.

I had to destroy a rocketeer for a feat, so I took a Wolfpack and a few seekers to get it done quickly. Figured I’d try the new pve mode out. Killed the rocketeer and was gonna grab the drivers to replace my Wolfpack. While I’m looting the main body some dude without a mic comes running up and starts looting the propellers. So I use bull rush to knock him out of the looting animation and sure enough there was another driver in that thruster. Then all of a sudden his mic magically started working. He was pissed because “he helped take it out and deserved some of the loot.” I just laughed at him and started to leave. He then had the audacity to ask for my help killing a bastion. All while this little gremlin was running around with no weapon in his back.
So yeah, pve mode ain’t it for me. There are no consequences for taking other peoples kills, so it really encourages that behavior. I’ll just stick to my friendly lobbies and run the risk of an occasional death from players.

u/msfamf 15h ago
Damn near the same situation was the straw that broke the camels back for us. We were trying to replace wolfpacks we used to take out some bullys we didn't get the loot from and while I was reloading a dude ran up out of nowhere, shot the on fire rocketeer once with, I think, an anvil, yelled "my kill, my loot!" into his mic, and snagged the cores.

31
u/LootKandi 14h ago
Most people here only post to gripe but truth is Reddit doesn’t gather the whole picture of a playerbase’s attitude toward PvE mode. People are also so quick to judge knowing how many others will upvote in agreement before even giving it a credible opportunity.
Yesterday I did trios in Stella PvE and managed to get my research projects done, which is enough of a grind to have fun doing without worrying about dying to other players.
There is absolutely a place for PvE, the question is whether it is going to degrade the PvPvE lobbies to the point where we NEED the PvE mode just to survive without rats.
8
u/Jabroni_413 13h ago
This is kinda my take. Solos i really enjoy normal lobbies and chatting with people. But today I actually got to group up trios with my friends and just chill. We joked, farmed up some arc, FINALLY was able to get my friend a Matriarch kill and he full kitted to just destroy as much arc as possible and it was a blast. Cause you know in regular lobbies trios is just kill kill kill and became unfun to group up.
23
u/HereComesDatNick 16h ago
I play on EU lobbies and everyone was using mics, asking dirextions to quests, help with bigger arc or at some point i found trio of dudes with musical instruments which just started following me for entire game as a personal groovy orchestra

Its literally Americans that are the problem. Its exactly the same in the current WoW beta.
Their country has fallen down a well of hatred, anger, survival instincts, and is just generally fucked up and down. Their social skills are appalling and they have been completely brainwashed into individualism, and are borderline incapable of community or teamwork in online spaces. (This is a huge generalization, and I get its going to upset people, it is the consensus of everyone I play games with from outside the USA)
This is what happens when social media moguls realize rage is the easiest way to get engagement, and then you let them run your country.
I feel so fucking sad that kids are growing up playing online games without anything close to what I grew up experiencing. Glad to hear the rest of the world is doing ok.

I don't even have to be in PvE mode, because everything was already chill with the ABMM.
3
u/JFunkX 13h ago
Me too. Tried PvE. It's not fun. The arc aren't nearly tough enough. Doing the Queen, Matriarch, Emperor husk, or Frigate are hard enough though. The problem is now players that didn't help can run in and loot everything without fear of reprisal from the players who did all the work bringing them down.
39
u/Sir-Grumpalot 17h ago
It is quite impressive how players have managed to make PVE in to PVP.
I had a PVE game where arc downed me at the extraction point so I sat still waiting for them to go, another raider rocks up, chucks a lure granade on to me, and watches every arc turn and kill me.
I couldn't be mad, I was actually impressed at how that had been thought through and worked.
9
u/NaziPunksFkOff 16h ago
It just goes to show that this was ALWAYS a part of the game, and having the option to shoot back was at least fair. Even when the way people PvP'd was underhanded or manipulative, they were playing the game the way it was meant to be played, and everyone had the opportunity to defend themselves and fight back.
Those people still exist in PvE, but now they can exist without consequences.
You can be mad about getting shot at extract, but you could also have anticipated it and defended against it. You can't anticipate the wild shit people are doing here to down raiders. And you sure as shit can't shoot back, so why even bother?
I'll take a fair fight over this bullshit any day.
4
u/PossessedCashew *** ******* 15h ago
Except it not always a part of the game. Lobbies exist where this shit doesnt happen. Toxic griefers will always find a way to make someone else’s experience miserable because they are miserable themselves and have low iq. Remember this is a test, im sure things would be put in place to prevent the various ways we’ve seen people grief if this ever became a permanent mode. Such a stupid argument.
5
u/JiveTurkeyMFer 14h ago
Just like lobbies exist in pvpve mode where people are friendly and don't all just try to kill you on sight, but crybabies will have 55 great games then get upset about the 1 game they got "ratted". Some people just want the game to cater to them and not actually play the game that was created by embark

You had your own agency in that situation, you're just blaming someone else because you refuse to accept that.
Yes, fake friendlies happened but that was 'the risk' of partnering up with someone who could kill you. The person on the other side of the conversation also had the same worries about you too, most likely.
You assuming that everyone has good intentions is what lets you get your loot taken from you, you drop your guard. On the very rare occasions I teamed up with someone, I'd still make damn sure that they were behaving.
I'm not letting them watch my back when I'm on the extract, they can start the console. If they refused to do it, I'd be backing up out of that extraction with my gun on them and they can go down solo. They move an inch from that console, switched their gun or did anything other than go back to speranza, they'd get lit up.You as a player always have agency in pvpve mode, you just don't use it.

I can't imagine ever exposing my back to an enemy. I only ever played this game in pure PVP lobbies, through gritted teeth and sweat. Every noise was something to lock onto. I wasn't hyper aggressive, I played slowly and safely. It was like a survival horror game. Usually got 2-4 kills per run while focusing on quests. Had about a 95% extract rate, only remember dying at extract a couple times because I was smart about how to approach them. Head on a swivel. Seeing clips of Raiders standing and emoting right next to each other is so jarring to me. Completely different game

In the comment you replied to, there's no way to play that so the offending player has any "consequences". At most you can hide in the bushes and hope nobody ganks you on your way to crawl inside extract. There's no way, after you're already knocked, to turn that situation on the aggressor. Please put the glass of copium down.

Easy pickings? But personally I think there is a movement of PVP players who are working to make the PVE toggle option a disaster. There seems to be too many reports of players coming in to PVE and somehow starting PVP up, or blocking players in to rooms or from getting to extraction points.
As frustrating as it is it reminds me of the good old World of Warcraft days and playing as Horde sneaking in to low level Alliance areas and causing mayhem 🤣

It's not a movement or a co-ordinated effort.
Pvp games always bring out people who enjoy dumping on other people, that's part of the appeal after all. You get to drop other players and get their equipment.
Some people want to out shoot folks, some people want to use trickery and backhanded plays.Situations like this video are unmanageable now in pve, in the regular mode you could just shoot the guy and be done with the whole ordeal. Now you don't have a choice but to risk it or forget about it doing your objective because you don't have a response to it anymore.

Why are the people in this game so miserable? I mean seriously, this subreddit rips itself apart daily with differing opinions and so many people go into matches with the intent of ruining someone's day (for gain or just for kicks). So the devs make a PVE mode to try and get some players back but it's not good enough, people still have to try their hardest to be an ass when there's whole lobbies dedicated to having the option of being confrontational.
I get cursed out daily on mic in other games and it doesn't bother me, but there's something especially insufferable about some of the crowd this game has.

you can watch the dev documentary where they're like "yeah this was originally PvE co-op and man...it just wasn't fun. so we changed it completely to be PvPvE and it was really fun." and they were RIGHT and now everyone done moaned and groaned enough that they're saying "Ok, we already tried this, and it sucked. You go ahead and try it and tell us what you think. Go ahead."

u/A2Rhombus 13h ago
Why can mines even be set off by players in pve? This mode was so half baked it's like they literally just removed the line of code that allows you to damage players and nothing else

4
u/g_mci 6h ago
If the long-term decision Embark is testing is whether PvE deserves a permanent place in the game, I hope they don’t interpret mediocre feedback on this stripped-down version as evidence that PvE itself isn’t interesting.
Because I honestly think a PvE mode designed from the ground up, with meaningful cooperative content instead of just disabled friendly fire, could be incredible.

Just double checked myself, pulse mines don’t work on other raiders in PvE mode. This is not from a PvE lobby

I guarantee you a pve player wouldn't grief someone like this.
This was 100% an angry "pvp" player who hates that other people have fun with pve.
10
u/Frosty_Chard4244 12h ago
just because someone griefed in the pve mode doesn't make them an angry pvper lmao

You’re getting downvoted by PvP rats that hate it cuz it’s true. You speak truth. There’s been an influx of PvP players joining pve to harass the pve players. Blocking doors and exits. Throwing snitch scanners and trolling pve players. The toxicity of PvP some players. We all know these players. They love the game cuz they love to ruin the game for others

u/EntertainerKnown2054 17h ago
These are pvp rats not pve players lmao

u/TheThirdRoseDotR 17h ago
Why do people conflate the idea of PvP with bad person and PvE with good people.
That's not it at all. PvE players just don't want the potential of another person killing them, that's the one universal truth about them.
Plenty of PvE players will take advantage of the no risks situation PvE presents.
6
u/Gozagal 15h ago
Isn't that just a PvP rat with extra steps ? A PvP rats hates fights as well. That's why they try to manipulate people so they can backstab them without their target fighting back when in PvPvE.
2
u/specter800 9h ago
Definitionally, no. If you're not fighting other players you're not doing PvP. Just because someone gets to loot before you does not make them "PvP". But I'm sure this sub will now fundamentally misunderstand what it means to "PvP" now just like it does with "rat".

That is completely normal. Game company releases something ==> Gaming community tries to break or abuse it. Nothing unusual really. Sorry, and I also find it funny. As long as someone is not cheating he is acting on the game rules and if its allowed, its allowed.

This is the problem. This whole debate of PvP vs PvE is stupid. The issue isn't PvP vs PvE. The issue is lack of consequence. People who are dicks in PvP will find a way to be dicks in PvE, too. The base game currently has no in-game consequence for betrayal or murder. IRL the thing that keeps some people from lying and murdering to get what they want is the societal consequences; ostricisation, banishment, whatever. Right now in AR you can lie and murder at will and then get a big welcome by the elevator operator, come back to Speranza and use the traders, etc. like you're just some other dude. Then, you can go back out and no-one is the wiser. It's a broken system of risk/reward where the reward very heavily outweighs the risk. They need to implement some form of consequence system. And I don't mean punishment, I mean consequence. Make lying and murdering a real choice, with genuine risk vs. reward so the decision actually matters. I honestly believe a consequence system paired with ABMM would solve a lot of issues and highlight how stupid the PvP vs. PvE debate is.

u/TealcLOL 11h ago
Ignoring the case of PvE mode, why don't you consider ABMM as an (albeit weak) karma system? A lot of the reason you aren't shot in friendly lobbies is because of how ABMM will sort the attacker after into a lobby where many others will try to kill them. Not shooting others is already rewarded by the game with cooperative lobbies giving you easier loot and extractions.

PvE lobbies wasn’t fun yesterday tbh was just full of bellends. The normal friendly lobbies are much better because they’re filled with decent people
12
u/mephnick 16h ago
Or are the normal friendly lobby people decent because there's an implied threat of getting shot if you aren't friendly?
6
u/twosixx_ 16h ago
Yeah I’m sure there’s a bit of that too! Tbh I’m more talking from the perspective of the type people that you encounter seemed very different. 1000 hours topside and had a good taste of the entire abmm spectrum and a lot of the stuff I was hearing yesterday sounded more akin to a Stella red raid at 3am 🤣. Not every PvP player is douche and not every PvE player is a nice person but rarely do a I meet distasteful person in the Fullcracker PvE lobbies and the loudest in PvP lobbies are usually pretty awful.

u/TurbulentFlow 15h ago edited 14h ago
No, normal friendly lobbies are great because you have to EARN your way into them by being chill and sacrificing loot or maybe a whole kit every now and then. You end up with decent people that want to help each other, not people shivering scared of getting shot if they "act up."
The Venn diagram of people willing to sacrifice to get into the friendliest lobbies and the people that get a dopamine spike off of griefing and ratting are basically two separate circles.

What i dont understand is all these rat fucks lurk in pvp ambushing and hiding to get the drop on people its because they are shit at it and have to pick on players who don't have intent to fight.. just like them trolling care bear servers.. this is all the same.

u/scarytrafficcone 11h ago
I mostly play friendly when I can, but I think the point of the game is to be a scrappy raider, and ambushing is part of the design. That's why they included mines, stun traps, guns designed for fighting human enemies, etc. That's why it takes a while to loot a box, so you're vulnerable and nervous. That's why a lot of things lock you to your crowbar and make loud ass noise. The tutorial level has you getting caught pants-down while breaking open a door by an ambushing. Awareness, positioning, and avoidance of traps and ambushes is as much a part of the competition as the direct fighting is. Why would one ever not try to get the drop on someone in a PvPvE game about raiding for gear in a competitive post-apocalypse? Should I say "Hey buddy! I'm getting ready to shoot you- make sure you're all loaded up and everything so that this is a Fair Fight." It is literally core to the intended design of the game. What does your ideal PvP situation look like?

I’ve said it a few times but pve only mode is an issue as it makes one mode dedicated pvp and now what we’re currently seeing,a mode where people are unfriendly, not communicating and are trolling
6
u/ULTRA-LANCER 16h ago
As a PvE primarily player, keep in mind these aren't real PvP players. They're just a bunch of Nance's. There are a lot of decent legitimate PvP players

u/thetardyowl 15h ago
Can attest to this. I was a Carebear (back when I played), and while running duo with a friend, we ran into a couple of guys on Dam who were NOT Carebears lol. But one of them was wearing the same back pack I was, and we bonded over our shared fashion sense.
He gave me a queen core lol

I always liked the approach of someone saying friendly to respond back, I'm not. Gives them a heads up and usually get a quick laugh. Rarely ever actually shot cause I ain't about to end someone who likes my dry humor.

I’m a mixed player, mostly friendly in solos and pvp in squads. I usually don’t mind running into a rat in solos. I actually enjoy a good fight. Just because I was trying to finish a quest doesn’t mean I’m exclusively a pve player. Just saying

I see people asking about pulse mines not working and getting downvoted but I had a similar question.
I assumed in PvE mode mines wouldn’t trigger - is that incorrect and they do trigger but don’t do damage (which doesn’t matter for the pulse mine) or did the griefer trigger it himself (maybe shot it?)

Idk why people are whining about pve when destination modifiers are pvp only.
PvE toggle removes all destination modifiers.
Like the egagement bait youtube video yesterday showing people crowding around a keycard door on pve. Anyone remotely serious about using a keycard would do so in a night raid or something, which is pvp only.

u/HoboThundercat 10h ago
I use keycards all the time with players in the same hallway lol
My lobbies are chill, I’m friendly, I chat people up and I’m confident. You also have to have a mic. I think rats have some sort of humanity and when you talk you become a human being and they feel bad lol. When the game first started the unspoken rule was no mic, fair game. You also kinda have to give the vibe like “hey I’m friendly but if you overstep you’re gonna die.” Not only do I get left alone 90% of the time, but my lobbies are so friendly that we when you get downed, players will travel 200m just to revive you. ABMM works great.2
u/PrivacyIsBaked 5h ago
Nah some people are just dicks even if you are confident and talk on mic. Dicks will always exist to stroke themselves.

What I dont get is why did the pulse mine even trigger on a player in a mode where supposedly it shouldn't.
I haven't messed with the other mines at all, but I just assumed in the pve toggle mode, mines would only trigger on ARC or yourself (since self damage from equipment is still on).

I am a pve player, i've returned to the game for the pve mode, but it was clear as a sunny day that it would have people doing this. Theres no way someone would play the pve mode without thinking of everything that already happened on the main mode of the game. Learn how to protect yourself in every mode.
