My sweet girl (mystery snail) Elaine escaped her tank and fell about 3-4 feet and when I found her, her shell was badly broken. I was a freaking mess. I love my girl. So I looked up what to do as she was still alive. I put her in the tank and she was moving her antennas. I found you could try egg shell. So I prepared some eggshell pieces. Cleaned the goop but kept the membrane on. I took her out. And slowly rebuilt her shell. I only used aquarium safe glue and only touched her remaining shell to attach. She was moving and responsive when I was handling her. Such a sweet girl. I then set her back in the tank once the glue was nice and dry. I watched her body slowly start to move into the Shell more. And then she didn’t move for a couple days. Then on the fourth day, I came out to check on her and found her siphon had found a crack through the eggshell and was hanging limp. Her trap door was still tightly shut and she didn’t smell so I knew she was still alive even though her siphon was limp. she was obviously trying to get oxygen but too weak to move. So I put her in a container with water in it and it’s floating on the top of her tank. I put her on her side where her siphon would be closest to the water as I didn’t put a ton of water in the container, just enough to cover her. She didn’t seem to move and the next day I came out to check on her. I noticed her siphon looked a tiny bit shorter. And as I was cleaning out the water, she actually retracted it and put it back into her shell. Now today she has not had any movement. But she still tightly in her shell. I have her in the container so she can breathe with her siphon if needed. I honestly don’t know if she will survive and I’m freaking heartbroken. She’s obviously trying to live, so I’m doing my best to support her. I’m concerned that she hasn’t moved. I know she’s not dead, but she’s obviously recovering from a serious fall. How long can mysteries snails live without eating? Has anyone experienced something like this and if so, what happened? Also, please be kind and don’t come at me for my terrible egg shell replacement job, I did the best I could. I figured if she lives through this, I can always fix it up. It is not as easy as you would think. I love my girl, and I’m seriously devastated.

At night, when my CO2 turns off an extra bubbler filter turns on that is full of coral and crushed coral instead of traditional filter media. The goal is to raise the pH high enough overnight that the CO2 drop during the daytime doesn't erode my snail shells. Tonight when I looked at the back to make sure my new timer worked I found 6 species of snails all hanging in that corner!

I have two mystery snails and I feed them pleco waffers and boils carrots. It’s the first time I have them and I want to learn how to take better care of them.

We own some land near a river, and small-scale harvesting of snails don't need a permit. Schistosomiasis is not active in the region. I'm considering collecting a few for personal use since local varieties are rarely sold. Does anyone have an idea or experience on responsibly transitioning WC snails into captivity?

Most of my bladder snails have oblong, smoothly spiraling shells. Then some, like on the right, have much more compact spirals. (I know its not age, because I have over a dozen new babies that look like the left)

suddenly began to see these fellas all around my tank! i dont recall getting any other snails besides mysteries, and this guy looks entirely different from them!

These rabbit snails were going to be thrown away at the grocery store, so I gladly took them. What happened to these poor babies shells? Also one is a mama and just gave birth yesterday!!!!!

When can I reintroduce mystery snails and nerite snails to my tank after treating the tank with panacur (for planaria)? It was treated in April (6 months ago) and I’ve done 5 water changes since then.

This is my rescue girl, Rory. I rescued her from terrible conditions and have been nursing her back to health. She’s gotten quite active and enjoys her time with her much smaller snail sister.

But today I was watching her forage for crumbs on the ground and noticed she looked like she was hanging very low. I am very worried. Is this mantle collapse?

How does my snail look like to you guys? I’m fairly new with snails so not sure if there’s anything I could be doing for him any food recommendations also, he doesn’t seem to like my algae wafers. I do have cuttlebone but I’m not sure if he needs it right now.

At this point I'm pretty confident I ID'ed them correctly myself, but I just want to confirm. Got a bunch of tiny babies by accident with some plants, not a snail the store actually sells.

Found this snail, about an inch or so long, during the breakdown of an old aquarium (moving snails and plants over to a bigger tank).

Who is this? Is this a Malaysian trumpet snail?

I have a yellow/gold mystery snail that I got from Petco. I've had him for a couple months and he has grown quite a bit (so he must be getting nutrients). I have a wide variety of foods that I've bought for him and his fishy tank mates, but I'm not sure what he likes to eat besides my plants. According to what I've read online, mystery snails supposedly only eat dying plants but that was not the case with these. I'm pretty confident that he is a mystery snail and not the apple snail that IS known to eat plants.

He has "mowed" over the Java Moss, which I'm not concerned about. The moss seems okay, just was given a haircut. But it was upsetting that he had eaten all the leaves from my Anubias plants. (I even saw him pooping undigested bright green bits of leaves later on.) I did see him on the Java Fern before, but he left that plant alone after that.

Now I did just make a batch of Snello for the first time the other day. That did seem to be a hit. So hopefully that will help. I'm probably going to give up on Anubias plants and use more Java Fern in their place since he didn't seem to care for that. I was wondering if anyone has had this issue with their mystery snail and if there are certain other plants that they seemed to like eating or not eating as well. I would like to get some Corkscrew Vallisneria for the back of the tank, but would hate for them to become snail food.
