MTB spots

Hey guys,

Does anybody know any good hidden mountain bike spots around town? I'm not talking about the forestlands or trails, I am looking for jumps or anything of the like.

Thanks!

Jazz Jam on Sunday (10/11)

Post image
8 Upvotes

Come on out tomorrow (10/11) evening after the Hawks game for the free monthly Anacortes Jazz Jam at 6pm at The Globe (1904 Commercial Ave). This is an event created in partnership by the Manieri Jazz Endowment and the Anacortes Music Project.

Our house band for October's session will feature Warren Newton (keys), Paul Sherman (bass), and Dave Delzotto (drums).

We started up these sessions about a year ago now, and they've evolved into a fun gathering for folks of all ages and skill levels to learn and play jazz, blues, and improvised music. Anyone interested in coming out to just sit back and listen is welcome too.

Musicians interested in joining should bring everything they need to play their instrument (vocalists/pianists/drummers we've got you covered) as well as printed copies of song charts for the house band to reference.

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Anacortes Death Café

We meet once a month on the third Thursday.  Our next meeting:

Date:              Thursday, October 15, 2026

Start:              5:00 p.m.

End:               7:00 p.m.

Address:        Anacortes Elks Lodge

            1009 7th St

            Anacortes, WA 98221

Cost: No cost to attend, and snacks and beverages are available during the meeting.

What is Death Café?

The Death Café movement began in London in 2011 with a simple premise: eat cake, drink tea, and discuss all things mortality with the hope of encouraging people to make the most of their finite lives. Founder Jon Underwood adapted the idea from the “Café Mortel” movement that emerged in Switzerland by sociologist Bernard Crettaz. Since that time more than 16,253 death cafes have sprung up in more than 85 countries.

A Death Café is a safe space to talk about death, the loss of loved ones and fears people have regarding the inevitable.

A Death Café is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives, or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session.

A Death Café is always offered:

  • On a not-for-profit basis

  • In an accessible, respectful and confidential space

  • With no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product, or course of action

  • Alongside refreshments

Everyone is welcome; bring a friend. Gather to talk about death and find community.

Thanks for your curious and open mind!  Hope to see you next week.

Attention: most ferry routes will be tied up for at least part of this morning, Plan accordingly. This is what happens when you tell engineers they're getting 0% raises for the next two years. Full list of affected vessels and routes in the main post.

Does anyone know what is set up at 22 and R? I think the signage said TSP? It looked like a bunch of portable restrooms.

Rentals

Hello!
My family of four is looking to move from Bellingham to Anacortes. My husband grew up in Anacortes and we want to be closer to family again. I’ve been checking Zillow and the property management sites, but I’m curious where else to look. Do lease takeovers ever come up? Are there private landlords that post anywhere? Any live/work trade or alternative housing?

Basically any and all advice to help us secure a place would be awesome!

We aren’t in a huge rush to move but are ready anytime. Looking for around 2k with 2bed/1bath with some yard space.

On Friday I saw a cop car in the ditch

... around Farm To Table Road, I think? There were a couple other cars limping around and a German shepherd bouncing around. Did a K9 car get hit?

Question for Those in the Building Trades

I'm a carpenter and my wife is a teacher. We're looking to move to Anacortes from the Olympia area. I'm wondering: is there enough work in Anacortes/Mt. Vernon area or do you have to go farther afield--ie the San Juans? I've had to commute by ferry in the past and would rather not do that again. My experience is mostly high-end residential and I'd like to stick to that fwiw. Appreciate any insight you can give!

Possibly moving for work!

Hello Anacortes friends, I'm looking at possibly re-locating from CO to WA for work, my job will be in Anacortes proper. Interested where folks live, is Anacortes a friendly place? good for families with small kids (we have a 3 and 7 yo)? how are the schools? What's there to do in the area? how are the amenities? Would a bigger town be suited to live in considering we're coming from a metropolitan area? Considering buying a house but also open to renting at least for a short while.
Any advice/recommendations are appreciated

Thank you!

Edit: Bigger town not better town*

A message to the person who walks the alley just west of main street.

You put your dog's waste into bags; this is good.

Please throw the bags away as well and don't leave them where cars can run over them.

There's the Circle K as a good place to throw it away, depending on which way you're going. There are also several dumpsters in the alley itself.

If you know this person, please let them know. IF you are this person, be better.

Lost miniatures

Hi there, has anyone found any Warhammer miniatures on 12th near steinmans possibly? They fell off my car and I'm absolutely gutted. They would be closest to the Steinmans grocery and possibly just fell in the middle of the road.

Rare Book

Occasionally this book is available to purchase on different sites. It’s prohibitively expensive. Rare treasures usually are.

I was wondering if most knew this book was even out there in the world. I hope the Anacortes Museum has a copy for posterity.

This book was from the days when Anacortes was referred to as Stump Town.

Sunset Beach

My Grandma Piddy Poo Haddon was friends with the lady who donated Sunset Beach to the city. The lady’s name escapes me know.

Most people nowadays refer to the beach as Washington Park.

Canoe Pass

A postcard from 1911.

Canoe Pass is the smaller, northern channel at Deception Pass State Park in Washington, spanned by the historic Canoe Pass Bridge between Pass Island and Fidalgo Island.

Coast Salish paddlers relied on a deep, generational knowledge of the tides to safely guide their canoes through the calmer, narrower waters of Canoe Pass.

Beginner friendly dance classes for adults?

Looking for dance classes in the area for fitness and fun! Open to any style, solo or partnered (as long as they can partner me with someone, I don’t have someone to consistently go with.) I would love to hear recommendations from personal experience.

Ideally something in Anacortes/Burlington/Mt. Vernon but willing to travel as far as Bellingham for the right teacher. Never taken a dance class before, just looking to try something new.

I'm visiting with my Yorkie and really want to see whales. Is there an easy way to do this by island hopping on a water taxi? If so where should I go? The tours are not going to let her come in my purse and she has horrible separation anxiety and loves to travel.
