What’s y’all’s worst experience as a Delivery Driver?

Someone stashed piss bottles in the van and forgot about them. I was at the end of my route on the way to my last stop when I hit a turn and suddenly I felt myself get splashed by something. I instantly knew that the piss bottles flew off and exploded in the van (there was 2 total). Had to drive 30 mins back to the warehouse smelling like someone’s weeks old piss 🤦‍♂️ pretty sure this is a biohazard. Got my arm covered in it and my backpack n lunch box. How would yall react to this? I was heated. Anyways please if you’re a driver and decide to pee in bottles. THROW THEM THE FUCK AWAY AFTERWARDS DONT STASH THEM AND LET THEM MARINATE!!!!

QUESTION 10 hour cons?

Im curious if anyone knows if/how the 10 hour guarantee pay affects the algorithm? What i mean is, if I start working for a DSP that does 10 hour guaranteed pay, and I start going faster to utilize the pay structure, is that gonna make the algorithm up my work load consistently? Or is that not possible?

Amazon DA exam Chapter 5 answers.

Just passed Day 1 and a lot of instructors have been saying Chapter 5 exam is failed the most. What should I pay attention to? Heard it has a lot of trick questions. Anything helps. Thank you!

Any DPD6 drivers in here?

Just curious if there's any other fellow drivers from DPD6 (Salem, Oregon) in this group. I'd like to see if I know anyone

Random package automatically added to itinerary

Post image
6 Upvotes

Had a few random packages with locations pretty far off. Usually set them aside but accidentally scanned one while looking for another. After swiping to finish at a stop this popped up and that package was automatically added to the itinerary. I didn’t pick it up, was just during a regular stop. Of course i’m not going to deliver that lol. But I am wondering if this is a new feature? Never gotten this before.

Also wondering if it counts against me in my scorecard? My dps has a seasonal bonus incentive for having clean scores including how many packages returned. I mentioned what happened to them and they avoided the question. But knowing amazon it’s more than likely.

Out of all the broken issues with the app of course they implement another annoying mechanism designed to prioritize packages above all else.

I got fired by my DSP for having trace alcohol on my breath from drinking the night prior with a friend, because their mom had passed away. They forced me to go in for a test and blew a .01.....would I able to go to a different DSP, or am i just screwed?

rant/ seeking advice

what shoes are yall using for work? all these stairs, getting on and off the van is hurting my ankles and calves lol currently using mix of avias and on clouds.

also id like to mention i been doing this since march and it seems like my legs don't seem to recover as fast as before. i see people complaining about their backs, but for me its just my legs pulsating or even cramping in my sleep. my route is usually 100-130 stops which doesn't seem like a lot, but more than half of them are 3rd floor apartments without elevator 🫩

New driver

I had my first route alone yesterday and I'm slow as hell. I got rescued twice, I only had 129 or so stops.

I got off to a bad start because I was confused about map displays. Two apartment complexes with 4 buildings tanked my time and I didn't even have that many packages per building. I'm probably trying too hard to satisfy customer requests in buildings too.

I got turned around so many times, sent back to neighborhoods I'd already been in, had the map want me to go to a place significantly behind me on a one way street, etc. Any advice for a newcomer? I actually enjoy the act of the job but I'm not fast enough and I can't fathom how you all do 300+ stops, 400+ packages.

RANT Caught the flu and got left on read🤔

I’ve been sick since last night to the point my whole body is sore. I took a at home test and it said I was positive for the flu so I text my dsp telling them I’m gonna be out for a day or 2 because I’m so sick I can barely Stand. I even sent a picture of the test and got left on read so now idk if I should still stay home or not. Granted I don’t think it would even be safe but I’m also not trying to lose my job. I think I’m just gonna try and get a doctors appointment tomorrow so I’ll have a work note but it’s a little shitty that I’m telling you I have the flu and can’t get a response.

DISCUSSION Amazon Flex App installed on our personal devices

So I’m sure everyone’s DSP has told their drivers to install flex on their personal devices, which I think is wrong. There’s a couple of reasons why I feel like this shouldn’t be a thing.

Reason 1: Using your personal device depreciates it and puts it at risk. I checked my battery usage one night after getting home from work and found that 48% of my battery usage for the day was used by apps related to driving for Amazon. I only used the app for maybe the last two hours of my route. There have been days where my work device shit the bed immediately and I had to use my personal for the entirety of my route. Additionally, using my device for delivery purposes has resulted in me dropping my device multiple times in cases where I normally would have never dropped it because it would just be sitting somewhere otherwise not being dropped while carrying 6+ packages during a multi-stop. If you want your personal device to start acting like your work device, this is how that happens. Battery life goes to shit, cracked screen etc. The kicker is, neither your DSP or Amazon will reimburse you for a new device if it gets damaged internally or externally while using it for work even though doing so increases the odds that it will get damaged in the process.

Reason 2: Data privacy. When you install work related apps on your personal devices those apps are gathering data from your device the moment they are installed. Everything gets sent to Amazon servers and they can gather that data and either use it against you or sell it to a 3rd party and you have no say in how or who your data is used by. To what extent this happens I don’t know. I just know that I don’t want my personal data being used by my employer in any capacity. You already make money off my physical labor and that should be where the buck stops. “Data is the new oil.”-Clive Humby 2006

It really chaps my ass that companies even ask their employees to use their personal devices for work stuff. What it amounts to is the working man shouldering one more cost that should not be passed down to the people who are keeping the wheels turning. If you can’t maintain the equipment needed to operate maybe you shouldn’t be operating.

And if you don’t agree with these talking points for whatever reason ask yourself what you would do if you showed up to work one day and your DSP tells everyone that they are now personally responsible for the maintenance of the vans they are using. Would you pay out of pocket for that? No? So why are we agreeing to use our personal devices in place of the DSP/Amazon making sure their work devices hold a charge for more than an hour? And don’t get me started on trying to charge our work devices while on route when we are stopping every 100 ft to make a delivery. Our DSP even gives us battery charging packs. It makes the device and battery into an unwieldy stupid pair of nunchucks that no one wants to deal with while running up someone’s driveway in the dark while balancing 10 packages and dodging landscape features and family pets to stay at 20 stops per hour. Please discuss. What do you think about DSP’s asking us to use our personal devices for work?

HELP NEEDED! Want to switch DSPs but their in the same warehouse

I’ve grown to love the ppl in my DSP everyone’s super friendly, we have pizza parties, cookouts, etc. The problem is I’m not hitting my 40hrs a week, I work hard, finish early or on time everyday and rarely get overtime opportunities bc my DSP doesn’t want to pay us for the full 40 hrs, they’ve started hiring new ppl for prime and in result half the teams hours have been cut. I was recently informed that a DSP in the same location will pay you for your full 10 hours even if you finish early and u get your guaranteed 4 days a week. I 100% would rather work for them but I feel like I’m betraying the homies if I openly go working for another DSP right in front of them. How do I go about this without feeling like an ass wipe 😭

RANT Amazon lockers….

Just had to deliver 189 packages to an amazon locker that only has 40 slots total. Locker is located outside directly in the sun (texas btw) so takes extra time to try to get the barcode to work bc the amount of light. Also have customers interrupting me to get packages then have to rescan all 7 barcodes. Have to go Door 2 Door for 165 packages across a whole area that the locker is supposed to cover, which includes 25 5 story buildings with no elevators and a whole subdivision.

Wish they could’ve just cut the middle man out and have me directly scan the packages instead of spending an hour and a half scanning packages that will be redirected anyways that will be scanned on the phone anyways. Also none of the pins are accurate and are just at the locker. Have told dispatch numerous times about this stop and how the pins are never right and nothing has been done in months

RANT Life is affecting work

Title just says about it. Ive been working for 7 months and this last month I probably worked only…8 shifts. I’m supposed to work double that. I don’t blame my DSP for not putting me on a route as much, that month before and during I was going through it mentally, worrying about finances and my girlfriend and what I would do with myself. It bothers me so much that at work I end up forgetting to focus on work, I’m too busy thinking about the argument I’m having with my girlfriend or if I should do school or if I’ll ever be able to save enough money for…I don’t even know anymore. I tried so hard last year to get a job and now that I have one I can’t even hold it down because of my girlfriend it feels like, blegh well that’s it!
