DISCUSSION Amazon Flex App installed on our personal devices

So I’m sure everyone’s DSP has told their drivers to install flex on their personal devices, which I think is wrong. There’s a couple of reasons why I feel like this shouldn’t be a thing.

Reason 1: Using your personal device depreciates it and puts it at risk. I checked my battery usage one night after getting home from work and found that 48% of my battery usage for the day was used by apps related to driving for Amazon. I only used the app for maybe the last two hours of my route. There have been days where my work device shit the bed immediately and I had to use my personal for the entirety of my route. Additionally, using my device for delivery purposes has resulted in me dropping my device multiple times in cases where I normally would have never dropped it because it would just be sitting somewhere otherwise not being dropped while carrying 6+ packages during a multi-stop. If you want your personal device to start acting like your work device, this is how that happens. Battery life goes to shit, cracked screen etc. The kicker is, neither your DSP or Amazon will reimburse you for a new device if it gets damaged internally or externally while using it for work even though doing so increases the odds that it will get damaged in the process.

Reason 2: Data privacy. When you install work related apps on your personal devices those apps are gathering data from your device the moment they are installed. Everything gets sent to Amazon servers and they can gather that data and either use it against you or sell it to a 3rd party and you have no say in how or who your data is used by. To what extent this happens I don’t know. I just know that I don’t want my personal data being used by my employer in any capacity. You already make money off my physical labor and that should be where the buck stops. “Data is the new oil.”-Clive Humby 2006

It really chaps my ass that companies even ask their employees to use their personal devices for work stuff. What it amounts to is the working man shouldering one more cost that should not be passed down to the people who are keeping the wheels turning. If you can’t maintain the equipment needed to operate maybe you shouldn’t be operating.

And if you don’t agree with these talking points for whatever reason ask yourself what you would do if you showed up to work one day and your DSP tells everyone that they are now personally responsible for the maintenance of the vans they are using. Would you pay out of pocket for that? No? So why are we agreeing to use our personal devices in place of the DSP/Amazon making sure their work devices hold a charge for more than an hour? And don’t get me started on trying to charge our work devices while on route when we are stopping every 100 ft to make a delivery. Our DSP even gives us battery charging packs. It makes the device and battery into an unwieldy stupid pair of nunchucks that no one wants to deal with while running up someone’s driveway in the dark while balancing 10 packages and dodging landscape features and family pets to stay at 20 stops per hour. Please discuss. What do you think about DSP’s asking us to use our personal devices for work?

is this a hot take? I prefer the rams over the edvs.

hi I’m kit. Does anyone else just prefer the rams and the sprinters over the evs? they are easier to drive and I never have to worry about my ac or heat killing the battery on the drive, and I never have issues of getting too close to a curb when pulling into a narrow parking lot or driveway entrance since the evs are not very good at turning sharper turns

also the evs have a heavy door on the drivers side and it takes more force to open and shut them, can be annoying. On rams it’s very light. Also on evs I can’t roll down window on the right side but I can roll windows down on both sides for gas vans and feel that air.

Also, the evs I drive sometimes will say “cruise control unavailable, camera too blurry” and the rams never have that bullshit

Is this a hot take? People here told me they love the evs but I can’t make myself like them at all

QUESTION Annoying new driver questions sorry

First, id like to say this job is bs lol. 3 to 4 times the amount of packages that flex gets but with 75% of the time is insanity.

Anyways, i just started like 3 days ago and i am so fucking sore its insane. Im not sure how im supposed to keep pace like this really. Any tips on how to idk recover faster or not get as sore?

Also, multistop locations like apartment buildings take me fucking forever. After ive gathered all the packages, got into the apartment, and organized the packages in the parcel room, its been like 30 minutes which sets me back BAD and im still on nursery routes so I cant keep on sucking like this. I only for 107 of 144 stops done the other day and i dont want to get fired lol

QUESTION Would you deliver or rts this guy

Post image

There is a box on the other side of the driveway but it’s just a home depot tote and not even a weather proof one. No signage anywhere near the “box”. My first thought was mark it unsafe and rts it. Second thought was to launch it at the empty Amazon box sitting in the yard about 10 yards behind the sign. I did put it in the tote because this guy is for sure a complainer. It took everything in me to do so though.

Speeding infraction dispute

So a few days ago I was dinged for speeding. There was no sign on the road between where I pulled out of a stop and when I got flagged, and the digital display on the dashboard screen didn’t show a number at all.

My DSP said they are disputing it. Has anyone had something like this happen? Did you win or lose the dispute? What do you think my chances are of getting this wiped?

what shoes are yall using for work? all these stairs, getting on and off the van is hurting my ankles and calves lol currently using mix of avias and on clouds.

also id like to mention i been doing this since march and it seems like my legs don't seem to recover as fast as before. i see people complaining about their backs, but for me its just my legs pulsating or even cramping in my sleep. my route is usually 100-130 stops which doesn't seem like a lot, but more than half of them are 3rd floor apartments without elevator 🫩

AMAZON DRIVERS HAVE HAD ENOUGH!
📦 400–500 packages. ⏱️ 20-minute loadouts. 💧 Rushed just to grab water. 📢 Yelled at by Amazon warehouse management while trying to load our vans.

WE ARE DRIVERS, NOT ROBOTS! ✊

📣 TO AMAZON WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT:
We demand RESPECT! Stop rushing us, yelling at us, and treating drivers like numbers. We deserve enough time to load safely and get drinking water.

📣 TO DSP OWNERS:
✅ Respect your drivers!
✅ Follow labor laws!
✅ Provide proper uniforms!
✅ Maintain SAFE, CLEAN vehicles!
✅ Set REALISTIC return-to-station times!
✅ Respect our legally required breaks and meal periods!
✅ Provide fair holiday time-off opportunities!
✅ Respect and fairly handle our PTO requests!

Dismissed - Is There Anything I Can Do?

I have been with my current DSP for a month in the UK, pretty much had an immaculate scorecard. Done everything by the book.

I just got a phone call from my DSP saying that Amazon have flagged an age restricted item not being delivered properly (checking ID) and they are having to terminate me. I don't remember the incident but I always do the proper checks.

Lucky for me its a second job for extra money, but this seems a bit brutal. Can I appeal? They said I cant even apply for other DSPs going forward.

Amazon have thrown the book at me without the chance to defend myself.

QUESTION Interview at someone's house.... Should I be alarmed?

Post image
85 Upvotes

I'm a 25 year old woman so this is a bit unnerving. It's a group interview, but still...... What do you guys think?

Edit: I'm going to bring a pepper spray, share my location with a couple people and have my dad on a call muted. I'm kind of going for the plot at this point, but I agree that this does kind of say something about how my experience working there will be. I'll keep y'all updated 😛

Edit 2: I got spooked again and told the guy I'm open to a phone interview or a public location and that I'm going to withdraw if not. I've had some traumatic experiences with men and have seen enough true crime to know this is not safe. If this was a horror movie everyone would be yelling at the screen not to do it 🙃

Edit 3: He said no to doing the interview at a public location or over the phone, so I backed out. I put in an application for another DSP anyway 🤷🏻‍♂️ Weird as hell.
