$10,000 Gameathlon: Athens LAN: Day 1

I love this game. I played it since I was a child. When retold came out I was so happy. Then the expansion came and I was loving it.

But now I have wife and kids and also ADHD so you can imagine I kinda hyper focused on the game.

Became good at it. At least from my perspective (1500 Elo) was able to play with legends of the game.

But it was paying a toll on my family and time. Because there’s no middle point with someone with adhd. I can either be addicted to the game or not play at all.

So I felt it was necessary to say good bye at least for a while to this beatiful community that has given me so many hours of fun. ❤️‍🩹

Finaly i hawe win in qauntlet mode scirmich. 1 game session: interesting confrontation 1 vs 2.

I found the Collage i made of the Gods in Age of Mythology for the DS ages ago. Thought might as well share it considering the Nintendo game ain't that popular and the artwork was too nice not to be shared.

They are in Following order:

1. Anubis, Bastet, Hathor, Horus, Isis, Osiris, Ra, Sekhmet, Set, Sobek, Thoth

2. Baldr, Freyja, Forseti, Heimdal, Hel, Loki, Njord, Odin, Skadi, Thor, Tyr

3. Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, Athena, Hades, Hephaestus, Hera, Hermes, Nyx, Poseidon, Zeus

Yeah so the hammadriads are the most OP myth unit. They cost WOOD and you can spam them up and then you basically win the game.

You want ranged heroes to counter them? Good luck, because theyll be autotargetting their FLYING HERO Icarus that you can't even counter cuz it's a flying hero. Have fun microing every fight just to be hopeless anyway

ALSO- these hamadriads do more damage to heroes than most myth units. They have a negative multiplier that isnt as big as most... which is weird considering theyre rangd and OP

HOLD UP. You thought this was a hammer dryad post? Nope. Think again.

That God Power Demeter has that raises the dead? Yeah that's just an autowin button. Then she can do it a second time because you know Greek players have no fundies and just spam favour to use god powrs right? Nah, I wont drag all Greek players under the bus. Demeter players tho? Yup.

Finally got all my Blessings to Fine last week (I'm a little behind, I know) and this week would be in theory, my first Mythical if they upgraded. Which they do! Really, really long grind ahead, which I'm not sure I'm willing to do now that I finally reached level 99 in Gauntlet.

As the title says. I want to achieve platinum for the game but my friends don't play the game (their loss).

Just played against this guy and as he was about to lose, the game froze. I thought that was too convenient to be legit. I believe this guy desynced the game when he was about to lose.

His stats are very suspicious too.

I ruled out him smurfing based on his inability to do basic things like building docks on water maps for a fast food economy. Even though his skill is below average he is winning games in under 15 minutes, some games under 9 minutes. His Odin has a 90% win rate too, but he wasn't very good. Has anyone else come across this guy? And if so did your game freeze also?

I can’t figure it out. I just played a game where I had 30 more villagers. 80 villagers to 50 and the guy somehow obtained the same amount of total resources as me. Before you say anything, yes I did get my resource upgrades. And I got most of the relics. But he somehow kept up with my resources and put them all towards his army and wiped me. I was Greek and he was Norse

I don't know why, but lately, playing against the AI ​​just isn't fun anymore. When I tackle challenges like the Gauntlet or campaigns on "Ludicrous" difficulty, the AI ​​turns into a god—though I can't figure out the "how" or "why." For instance, when the AI ​​builds a Titan, it completely ignores my soldiers and heads straight for the buildings. It’s the same story with any unit that deals "crush" damage—whether it's a Myth unit, or a human unit with crush damage; they all just target the structures. So, I end up having to chase the enemy Titan all over the map while it pays absolutely no attention to me or my troops. Then there's the cavalry: the moment they spot my villagers, they get hyper-focused—almost "horny" for them—and ignore everything else. The AI's logic is completely broken. Logically, a Titan should engage the units right in front of it, but strangely, it just bee-lines for the buildings. Even weirder, it targets the Forts first, then the Town Center, and only *then* moves on to the other structures. Maybe I'm imagining things, but the AI ​​behavior definitely isn't normal. I’ve tested this extensively—it’s not just a one-off fluke—and it happens on every difficulty level. I don't want anyone telling me it's a skill issue or something similar; I’ve been playing this game since I was five, and I know for a fact that the AI ​​has been acting strangely lately.

I don’t care if you disagree. I don’t care what the numbers say. They have 0 weaknesses. There is nothing you can do other than hope the Greek player screws something up and you can hopefully capitalize on it. I get that it’s the first civ and the civ that most people try out the first time they play, and many just stick with it because it’s a pretty straightforward civ. I main Odin and I just have nothing for an answer most of the time. I know that Zeus is probably going to come at me midway through classical with 30 Hoplites and Minotaurs, even if i attack first early in the classical age and break his temple and go for a second tc he still will come after me with 30 hoplites and Minotaurs soon after. Then he will break my tc with his hoplites in 10 seconds then he will get a second tc while he’s doing that and break me in age 4 on eco. I know Poseidon is going to raid me with invincible horses and even if I go heavy on hirdman and berserks they will not win, and he they are also way faster so if he starts to lose, he’ll just leave and come back on the other side. Either way, I won’t be able to beat him on eco. And Hades, forget about the early raids, it won’t work. He’ll use sentinel and keep a group of 5 toxotes by his tc, that’s all he needs to keep me away. Then when it’s time to leave his base he’ll come out with 15 toxotes and 10 hypaspists and 5 myth units in the heroic age, I have no answer for that. It takes too much time to mass up huscarl and godi because I can’t train them until the heroic age. No matter what I do, no matter how raid heavy I am, it doesn’t matter. If the opponent is better than me I’m totally screwed there’s no chance. If the opponent is the same skill as me, still, if he’s got more than 10 games with Greeks he will likely have an edge. Worse than me, it’s a 50/50. At best. I’m so tilted I just turn the game off and leave it for weeks at a time. But I love it so I always come back. I've been working on an MCP server that connects AI agents (Claude, Codex, etc.) to the Age of Mythology: Retold scenario editor. You describe what you want, and the agent places units, paints terrain, and edits triggers in the live editor.

**What it can do**

- Place units and buildings, including formations (rows and rings)

- Paint terrain, water, forests, and cliffs, and adjust elevation

- Inspect and edit triggers, players, and diplomacy

- Look up game data: 1,757 prototypes, 896 techs, 161 god powers, and 93 gods across all seven pantheons

- Take screenshots so the agent can check its own work

- Save checkpoints (never overwrites an existing file)

**Custom scenario**

As a test, I made an alternative scenario for mission 10 of the Obsidian Mirror campaign. In this version you are betrayed by your only ally. if you play this scenario on Titan or Ludicrous, you get the option to pick a bonus difficulty level, up to 5 times.

**Caveats**

Hey, so ive very rarely played an rts game, but i have played turn base strategy games such as Age of wonders 4 and stellaris, however i always fizzle out during a game as i find it repetitive and slowly lose interest before i can finish the game. However, i love slowly watching my army grow and my city build. I recently came across these 2 titles and im unsure of which would suit me better as someone who has minimal experience in the rts genre. I understand im asking this question in the AoMR reddit so I think i know what the answer might be. I play on ps5 and was wondering which of the 2 would be better for me and if theres any differences between the 2 I should be aware of. I like the idea of AoMR due to being a fantasy nerd, but ive heard AoE2 is a better game. Im sorry for the question but any advice is appreciated, thank you!

Been a hot minute since we've done some stuff. I've been incredibly busy since getting back from Greece and haven't had much of an ability to do anything but today that changes. Thanks to the support of Firefox, you'll know him as one of the best Hades players on the ladder, we are able to put on a showmatch between two players who I know everyone wanted to watch in Gameathlon.

Today we will see Kvoth and Mosca duking it out with a slightly special ruleset however it will be a great matchup and if you like competion you will love seeing these guys play. They both play solid Age of Mythology and have their own flairs. It's a stylistic matchup that is just so fun to think about but we won't have to think much more YAY

Unique Ruleset:
Both players must select Hades.
Player 1 must pick Hades for game 1.
Player 2 must pick Hades for game 2.

We’ll be playing 2 Rounds of FFA, each on a different map:

Map 1: Forgotten City, a custom map by

[DoD]Skray. It has four Dwarven Forges in the middle that can be used to research bonus army upgrades, and if you control all four simultaneously, you get a super strong Titan Kronos. If you lose control of one of the forges the titan instantly dies until another person controls all 4 forges again, at which point in time he respawns in the middle of the map again.

Map 2: We’ll also play a game of Regicide on Cloud Forest.

Depending on the amount of signups, we'll make one or two groups. These will be decided based on the strength of the players to have a decently fair competition.
