Discussion Greatest Prodigies in the franchise ranked.
- **Amon**
Mastered psychic bloodbending at 14. He was self-taught in removing people's bending. We also know he was a proficient regular waterbender too and he could fight and beat most people with chi blocking alone. He tanked a lightning strike at extremely close range and never lost a fight. The closest fight he lost was a 2v1 with Korra & Mako where after she got 1 hit on him he left the fight due to his secret being revealed rather than being unable to continue fighting - the other 2 however appeared fatigued. His brother Tarrlock who is also a prodigy didn't look like one in comparison to him. His bloodbending surpassed his own father's too.
- **Yun**
His bending was so good he was thought to be the avatar and he took on an extremely powerful spirit to a draw. We only ever see avatars using the avatar state managing to fight spirits this well and even when they do they have a habit of needing help. He was revolutionising earthbending to mimic other elements. All self-taught.
- **Aang**
The only character to showcase super speed. Battle both powerful benders and spirits while coming out on top. Was fighting other prodigies like Azula continuously while at a disadvantage while being younger than her too and still achieving draws. The youngest airbending master until Jinora - who let's face it became master after continuously complaining to her dad to be given the title.
[This is specific to Aang's airbending. His other elements would push him higher because he learnt seismic sense & lightning redirection so fast - but I'm ignoring those.]
- **Katara**
You can argue she could be above Aang. She didn't have access to a teacher nor any benders at all until she was 14. Then after she finally did, in a span of less than a year - she caught up to both Azula & Toph both of which are prodigies too. She learnt bloodbending and healing instantly.
- **Toph**
Although she was taught by the badger moles she had to bend in secret and that makes it harder for her. She managed to create metalbending and knew seismic sense very young. She is also 12 while Azula is 14.
- **Azula**
Azula is incredible managing to do lightning bending so easily before it became common. Then later in the comics she can redirect lightning too. But she had access to the best firebending trainers her entire life. Yet Katara in a span of less than a year caught up and Toph at 12 was at a similar level.
- **Zaheer**
Beat a bunch of white lotus members as soon as he got his bending. Defeated Kya & Tonraq after having bending only like a month too. Obviously not as good as the others on the list but the speed he achieved his skills is the most impressive.

Discussion Will always love how directly political this franchise is: atla North and South comics touching on anti-imperialism
Discussion I have seen someone argue in Facebook that it would have been better if Aang died with the Air Nomads so the next Water, Earth or even Fire Avatars could have been prepared to stop the war much earlier, do you think this statement holds any merit?

Question what natural event increases earth and air benders abilities?
You know how waterbenders are stronger during a full moon and firebenders are stronger during a comet? Are there any events that make airbenders and earthbenders stronger too? Like, are earthbenders more powerful on Earth Day? Lol.

Discussion Internal Bending Techniques (theory/fanfiction)
There is a little bit of this shown in how Airbenders can increase their speed, but if bending uses energy derived from the users chi, what if benders could use their bending to accentuate their own internal physical capabilities for a more martial arts based combat approach.
Firebenders could fire up their chi to increase their striking power, and maybe their speed in terms of explosiveness as well
Airbenders could channel their internal chi like air to move quicker, free flowing, and be attuned to slight air disturbances to increase their reaction time
Waterbenders could direct healing inwards to give themselves a healing factor. This would allow them to take hits and react like water to return the energy back at the attacker
Earthbenders could root themselves like stone to increase their physical durability, perhaps physical strength as well
These would be high level bending techniques that, by focusing the bending on their internal chi, may prevent the bender from bending externally in exchange for superhuman physical abilities to accentuate their own martial abilities. Extremely high level benders could potentially do both simultaneously. Definitely a trade off but could open up interesting forms of combat.
This is a bit of a video game mentality towards bending but it's a cool idea that I wanted to share. Any thoughts?

Discussion Do we think Aang would have defeated the fire lord without Momo?
Momo led Aang to the lion turtle. Also, Bumi specifically calls out momo in season 1 and season 3

Cosplay Our Aang and Katara Cosplays [OC]
For this year's Polaris Convention, I made Aang and Katara cosplays for my fiancé and me. I sewed/ made the cosplays by myself! These beautiful photos were taken by the wonderful photographer eosandy at Polaris Convention. Now we just need to get the rest of the Gaang together 🌊⛰️🔥💨
Unfortunately none of us realized until way later that a small piece of my belt had flopped over. Oh well 🤷🏻♀️

interesting Scarily accurate predictions when I was showing someone avatar, we just finished the series
“Man I would really like an episode that is just sokka recalling the plot” during day of the black sun
“I love that katara learned blood bending for 5 minutes never to use it again to get revenge on the fire nation” also during day of the black sun
“Sokka created submarines, what’s next airplanes?”
“So is aang just gonna trip over a rock and get the avatar state back” meant to be a joke
“Toph is pretty badass, she can probably create another type of bending through pure will”

Question Why doesn't aang give bending? SPOILERS Spoiler
Avatar aang the movie was very good, but seeing aang knows how to energy bend why didnt aang experiment with giving it. The staff uses the same energy bending to give these abilities it wouldn't make sense for aang to want the staff just for him to end up doing the same thing.

Question Royalty last names?
So we know that rich families like the Beifongs have last names, kinda as a symbol of high status. But do royals have last names too? I mean does Zuko or Bumi have a last name we/I just don’t know about?
It seems like it makes sense that royals have a last name, but we’ve never heard of them in the shows.
Has anyone info on this?

Discussion Has Iroh actually committed war crimes?
I’ve seen this pop up every now and then but people like to make the claim that Iroh was a war criminal but I don’t recall any dialogue or scenes cementing that. All I remember is him laying siege to Ba Sing Se’s walls which was a military objective.
I don’t think any part of that would be labeled a war crime. It’s like destroying an enemy fortress and being labeled a war criminal for it.

Discussion Why would someone like Korra more than Aang?
Looking at all the discussion around the new series, I’ve seen people pointing out Aang’s mistakes and so on; but really, why would someone prefer Korra over Aang? I liked Korra and enjoyed her series, she doesn't strike me as irritating the way she does others but in my experience, Aang is much more likable. So, why would someone prefer Korra?
