ā“Advice / Recomendations Should I buy it ?

I have a 2012 Corolla S 218k miles and I’m considering trading it for a 2001 4Runner Limited 260k miles. 4Runner is rust free , and I know the owner, who says it’s been reliable for 3 years. Asking for $6000
I want a 4WD vehicle to keep long term. Would you make this trade or keep the Corolla?

🧠 General I did a proper brake job today

I broke 2 sockets, a screw driver and a wheel stud. I also managed to get the brake pads replaced. I was starting to get pissed.

🧠 General As long as I'm religious about changing oil every 3k miles, does it really matter what brand or type of oil i use?

Bought my dad's 2000 4runner earlier this year. Had about 99k miles when I got it, around 102k miles when I took it for its first oil change since I got it. My dad said he had only been using conventional oil in past so stuck with the same. Got some quaker state 5w-30 and changed the oil. I've never had a vehicle come even remotely close to 100k miles. But I've always been diligent on oil changes.I should be ok sticking to conventional moving forward?

ā“Advice / Recomendations I’m buying my first 4Runner on Saturday. It’s a 1997 limited 4wd in great, I shape need some advice though

it’s pretty much mint just 2 small issues, the power steering pump whines and the back hatch latch needs replaced. It already has a 3ā€ lift, front end has been redone recently and it has extended travel CV axles. The maintenance is up to date and the timing belt and water pump have been replaced every 100,000 miles I’m paying $6,500 it’s got nice wheels and tires on it. I plan to make it into an overland rig but I need advice on the best places to buy parts and what mods I should do to make it trail ready. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

ā“Advice / Recomendations Evap and Misfire code diagnosis help

Post image

Ive been chasing down this set of codes for a little while and cant seem to get rid of them. I replaced all the VSVs with no luck. I smoke tested the Evap system and couldn’t find a leak. What else could be causing this set of codes? They seem to always come together with the misfire code. P0440, P0446, P0300 have been most common but P0441 has shown up as well. Recently started getting P0420 as well.

ā“Advice / Recomendations Are LBJs noticeable early?

I bought some new LBJ's for my 99 sr5 thinking they were squeaking but turns out it was my door and seatbelt (silicone lube and white lithium solved it) but I keep seeing so many people saying to do them so I'm curious.

Do they make any noise or have any noticeable issue when they're starting to go? My 4runner does seem to float on the highway, if I turn the wheel and after straightening the wheel straight it'll pull a bit to the side I last turned, but I just chocked it up to bad bushings I should replace, but after doing a bit of googling, apparently that can point to failing LBJ's, the previous owner did have the drivers side fail and I'm not sure if the passenger side was replaced, so I'm debating just doing them regardless soon but in the future I want to make sure I'm prepared and have some way to identify it in the future.

I do wheel it almost every weekend and have yet to notice any noises even when at full turn over dips and bumps, but the last thing I want is a failure on a trail where I may not see anyone for hours or days, and is there a way to make sure I'm prepared if that happens? Will baling wire or a dozen zipties get me back onto a main road if I'm able to get the front end back up? And what is generally the failure point? The bolts, castle nut or the joint itself?

Thanks in advance! šŸ’Ŗ

Got this 2000 4Runner SR5 4x4, hood scoop with rear locker with a clean title for $3,700 with 218k miles on it. Needs some love like coils, struts and top hats, lower ball joints, outer tie rod ends, valve cover gaskets, top end cleaning, radiator replacement and gonna go through all the fluids drain and replace. Has some ripped bottom seats in the front and some dents and dings, clear coat peel and paint faded on hood and roof but was in Arizona up till 2018 now in the PNW. Almost no rust underneath. Runs and shifts smooth. I feel like this was a pretty good deal right?
