Follow up on this original post from 3 years ago. Any suggestions/ideas to revamp the page?
I just went through and added a wiki and updated the FAQ on the sidebar to add a couple of new links. I also pinned u/nexttotheinfluence ' s great 4Runner Mechanic List he posted a year ago. Thanks again for the detailed list. Also introduced some post flairs (General // Modifications // Advice/Recomendations // Photo/Video).
- Banner -> Is anyone good with Photoshop on here and wants to design a banner? Reddit recommended size is 4000x128 px for desktop and the mobile banner is 1600x480 px
- Page Icon -> I saw in the original post that u/Axe56 provided the current one and also introduced another version with the typical Reddit Icon's eyes. Here's a survey showing the great designs he made. Just want to see if we want to keep the same, update to the eyes version, or if anyone cares to create a new one...

Got this 2000 4Runner SR5 4x4, hood scoop with rear locker with a clean title for $3,700 with 218k miles on it. Needs some love like coils, struts and top hats, lower ball joints, outer tie rod ends, valve cover gaskets, top end cleaning, radiator replacement and gonna go through all the fluids drain and replace. Has some ripped bottom seats in the front and some dents and dings, clear coat peel and paint faded on hood and roof but was in Arizona up till 2018 now in the PNW. Almost no rust underneath. Runs and shifts smooth. I feel like this was a pretty good deal right?

I broke 2 sockets, a screw driver and a wheel stud. I also managed to get the brake pads replaced. I was starting to get pissed.

Ive been chasing down this set of codes for a little while and cant seem to get rid of them. I replaced all the VSVs with no luck. I smoke tested the Evap system and couldnāt find a leak. What else could be causing this set of codes? They seem to always come together with the misfire code. P0440, P0446, P0300 have been most common but P0441 has shown up as well. Recently started getting P0420 as well.

Bought my dad's 2000 4runner earlier this year. Had about 99k miles when I got it, around 102k miles when I took it for its first oil change since I got it. My dad said he had only been using conventional oil in past so stuck with the same. Got some quaker state 5w-30 and changed the oil. I've never had a vehicle come even remotely close to 100k miles. But I've always been diligent on oil changes.I should be ok sticking to conventional moving forward?

I have a 2012 Corolla S 218k miles and Iām considering trading it for a 2001 4Runner Limited 260k miles. 4Runner is rust free , and I know the owner, who says itās been reliable for 3 years. Asking for $6000
I want a 4WD vehicle to keep long term. Would you make this trade or keep the Corolla?

itās pretty much mint just 2 small issues, the power steering pump whines and the back hatch latch needs replaced. It already has a 3ā lift, front end has been redone recently and it has extended travel CV axles. The maintenance is up to date and the timing belt and water pump have been replaced every 100,000 miles Iām paying $6,500 itās got nice wheels and tires on it. I plan to make it into an overland rig but I need advice on the best places to buy parts and what mods I should do to make it trail ready. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I love my new-to-me 4Runner, but sometimes I feel downright tiny in it.
On long drives or technical terrain, I spend so much time trying to peer over and around my steering wheel that I end up with neck pain.
On my latest camping trip, I packed a 2" seat cushion and it was an incredible QOL boost. I'm thinking I gotta diy something to lift the seat, still brainstorming.
Anyone else have any similar experiences? Or am I alone haha

Only sounds like this once it warms up, cold it sounds normal, also seems to idle a bit rough warm or cold almost feels like a misfire and I havenāt gotten misfire codes, only occasionally like maybe once a month Iāll get po136 for downstream o2

Not really, but I understand Mitch. Have cash, will travel. In the last 2 weeks I've missed out on a '01 Limited 4x4 with 160k miles for $5800, made arrangements to meet the guy the next day and he sold it before I could get there. I figured that would happen, it was an amazing deal. Messaged another 4-5 different people asking completely logical questions, got left on read, hadn't even made it to the lowball stage yet. Got a response from one guy about a week ago, he's ~6 hours away, so figured if it was still around I'd follow up when I had some free time to get away. Hit him up with a few more completely reasonable questions to see if we could make arrangements in the next couple days, got called a tire kicker, wouldn't answer my questions or get the pics I was asking for, so I guess bullet dodged there.
I spotted a Limited on Kings in the neighborhood the other day, I may pass by and try the Mitch Method and see how that goes.
I know the right one will come eventually, but sheesh it's tough out here.

I bought some new LBJ's for my 99 sr5 thinking they were squeaking but turns out it was my door and seatbelt (silicone lube and white lithium solved it) but I keep seeing so many people saying to do them so I'm curious.
Do they make any noise or have any noticeable issue when they're starting to go? My 4runner does seem to float on the highway, if I turn the wheel and after straightening the wheel straight it'll pull a bit to the side I last turned, but I just chocked it up to bad bushings I should replace, but after doing a bit of googling, apparently that can point to failing LBJ's, the previous owner did have the drivers side fail and I'm not sure if the passenger side was replaced, so I'm debating just doing them regardless soon but in the future I want to make sure I'm prepared and have some way to identify it in the future.
I do wheel it almost every weekend and have yet to notice any noises even when at full turn over dips and bumps, but the last thing I want is a failure on a trail where I may not see anyone for hours or days, and is there a way to make sure I'm prepared if that happens? Will baling wire or a dozen zipties get me back onto a main road if I'm able to get the front end back up? And what is generally the failure point? The bolts, castle nut or the joint itself?
Thanks in advance! šŖ

Not my video. My buddies 4runner is making this noise only when accelerating. Has anyone run into this issue or know what it could be?
