Questions & Discussion Peek-a-Bangs Modeling

Thumbnail

So, I'm trying to get around to modeling my character in 3D with Blender. But, one of the quirks of the character is that her large bang covers up the left side of her face. Always. Like the left side is never seen, nor the eye. And I'm trying to figure out how that would work with the hair, because I still want that to relatively have some reasonable movement and physics.

Does anyone have any advice or tutorials or references for something I could use to figure out what to do?

Questions & Discussion How do middlemen find so many VRChat avatar clients while actual artists struggle?

I've been working as a 3D artist creating VRChat avatars on Fiverr, and there's something I've noticed that genuinely frustrates me.

I've had several people, mostly from Nigeria (although sometimes their profiles show other countries), contact me and place orders for custom VRChat avatars.

After chatting with them, I often get the feeling that they're not the actual buyers. It seems like they're middlemen who find clients elsewhere and then outsource the work to artists like me for a much lower price.

What I don't understand is how these people manage to find clients while I, as someone who actually creates the avatars, struggle to find buyers.

I spend hours modeling, texturing, rigging, and making sure everything works properly in VRChat, yet somehow these middlemen seem to be better at getting commissions than the artists doing the actual work.

I'm not against people outsourcing work, but it's frustrating knowing that someone might be making more money just by connecting buyers with artists.

So my question is: Where are they finding these clients? Discord? Reddit? VRChat communities? Some other platforms I don't know about?

I'd love to hear from other VRChat artists who have experienced this. How do you find direct clients without relying entirely on Fiverr?

Any genuine advice would be appreciated!

Questions & Discussion How to use an image as a template. And other assorted questions.

Doing some work for a friend, need to know what software to use for what.

Doing most of the work on flat faced, round signs, connected to light boxes. So like a 2 inch thick 10 inch wide coin in shape.

I need to know a good workflow from reference image ---> finished plate that I can add an offset flange for mounting in the light box ring he has parameters I can plug in. I just need to know if I can steamline the process and I don't I can learn which methodology quickly enough ony own to satisfy his clients demands.

The plates are 250 mm wide

About 2 mm thick

Circle.

I need to ask the offset for the flange but it's about the same thickness as the face (2mm) and about 8 to 10 mm deep where it fits the box (short cylinder).

Budget is Open Source or coughcoughbay.Org\*

I'm fairly tech savvy and good enough to self direct to more knowledge. But the plethora of options is daunting.

I have a very simple project ahead of me. Just have to find out which route.

Any advice?

The images will be vector graphics from illustrator. I'm cludgy at designing for easy printing, so advice on illustrator work flow discipline would be good too. For example how to avoid shapes, or layering that will conflict with the process. Like if there are 3 line segments overlapping by a fraction, but not connected by an anchor point.

Art Showcase Built a free, local-only browser tool to inspect 3D models (PBR, Wireframe, Normals) & export 360° transparent turntables

• Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Whenever I exported an asset (.fbx, .glb, .obj, .stl) to send to a client or import into a game engine, I hated having to re-open heavy DCC software just to double-check if normals were flipped, inspect wireframe edge flow over textures, or render a quick 360° turnaround clip for social/client review.

I built a free, browser-based inspection studio that runs 100% locally on your GPU (0 bytes uploaded to any server, so it's completely safe for NDA work):

🔗 Link: https://viewer.artoli3d.com

What you can use it for:
• Instant Visual & Mesh Inspection: Switch between PBR Studio Lighting, Clay/Plaster (great for checking sculpt silhouettes), Wireframe Overlay (topology lines directly over textures), Albedo/Unlit (flat diffuse check), X-Ray, and Face Orientation (Blue = front face, bright Red = flipped normals).
• Mesh & Texture Telemetry: Live polycount (tris/verts), draw calls, UV coverage %, texel density, and GPU VRAM footprint breakdown.
• 5-Second 360° Turntable Video Recorder: Export smooth 30/60 FPS turnaround videos with native aspect ratio presets (9:16, 1:1, 16:9, 4:5) and Transparent WebM Alpha support—so you can drop your rotating model straight into Premiere, After Effects, or CapCut without keying out a green screen.
• Ultra 4K Transparent Snapshots: Capture crisp 4K PNG cutouts with optional contact floor shadows in one click.
• Built-in Format Converter: Quickly convert between GLB, OBJ, STL, USDZ, PLY, and 3MF right in the browser.

It's completely free, requires no account or login, and has no watermarks. You can also install it as an offline desktop PWA to open .glb/.obj/.stl files directly from Windows Explorer or macOS Finder.

Hope this saves you some time in your daily workflow! Let me know if there are any shading modes or inspection features you'd like me to add.

I want to create diamond like this in a procedural way. I know I can place it manually, but it was time consuming. Does anyone know how to achieve this using any software?

DEEP CITY PROJECT — RECORD 039

A 3D reconstruction of the Underworld during Expedition EX2407pD-QW (2407 CE / 306 p.A.).

Deep City was originally composed of four massive structural blocks suspended inside an enormous underground cavern. All four have now collapsed onto the cavern floor.

The Underworld's cubic structures remain partially submerged in a radioactive substance, with no detectable energy emissions.

This environment is part of my ongoing personal science fiction project, developed through 3D modeling and rendering.

Questions & Discussion When doing model for game, which type of modeling to use and why?

Thumbnail

The first one, where the model is a single model, where the ring is part of the cube,it can't be take off,if doing it the cube will look like two separate cube without top-down face.

Or the second one, where it is basically two cube, the blue is a cube not a ring but when put here it as the same result as the first single model one,and it is faster doing the model.

For the result,It look like the same, but the second one use less triangle.

Which one is the most used, and why?

(Note, the picture is just to make a idea of what I'm trying to say,the picture used both are the second type).

Questions & Discussion I need to get a more unique style.

Hi I'm a game designer and I'm in an indie studio. And we've been working on a game. Our main artist is SO talented and I'm feeling kinda useless... My style and his style is different and I know that I can learn new art styles easily. But here's the problem, I've been doing this only for 2d art and now I'm struggling with the 3d side. Are there any tips or some recommendations about it? How can I get that painterly look? Maybe something like Riot 3d assets style? I'm currently using Blender.

I wanted to improve my skills and do something worthy of a great portfolio. The only problem - it took me awfully long time to make it, I haven't done such detailed wirk with semi-organic shapes like this stock in a very long time, I don't like this stock (because I think the sheer idea i weird), but I took it specifically to train myself to do such stuff.

It's a draft that I will get into zBrush and add bevels and little details there.

What do you think?

P.S. Tried to render it real time with Cycles using new DLSS RR denoiser - that's really sick

Hello, everyone!
Here's the first piece of my updated portfolio. This is a Tabako Bon with Kiseru, it's a game ready 3D asset. It's box where tobacco was stored with an ashtray built in. I added a classic Japanese smoking pipe in this called Kiseru as well. This was to show my texturing skills.
