Zen

Wow I feel like an idiot at how quickly people see it but at the same time it is so hard to read

u/C0mpL1c1t 14h ago
It's cursive so if you are young enough that wasn't taught to you in school, cursive Z looks nothing like printed Z so there's no reason you WOULD see it.

u/Left-Chemist-8212 14h ago
Haha same. I read it immediately. I did always have a problem writing z’s. I used to journal in cursive just to keep the practice up. I’m gonna do that again. Mainly just stopped journaling in general.

u/ticklemesatan 14h ago
I was old enough to learn and such, but still don’t remember how to write or read a cursive Z. This might be the first time I’ve seen one written in 30+ years

It's cursive, not hard at all

u/flyonthesewalls 14h ago
Ugly cursive, but yeah. Just as people are no longer going to be able to write it, they won’t be able to read it anymore. We’ll be reading this like ancient scripture.

u/Clojiroo 14h ago
There’s nothing ugly about this at all. In fact I’d argue it’s better than 99% of handwriting out there.

Did you not learn cursive in school?
1
u/Sad_Net_609 14h ago
I don’t think they teach it anymore.
1
u/Objective-Tea5324 14h ago
It may depend on where you live but my oldest who is 13 was taught and my 10 yr old should be starting soon.

To me, thats a f7nky lower case s and an upper case L
2
u/noturFaultitsmine 14h ago
Where were you taught?
I wouldn’t know what the lowercase letter represented unless it was part of a word. The second one looks like an uppercase L.
2
u/After-Past-9404 14h ago
Czech Republic.
Yeah, imagine me freaking out when I encountered the US cursive "G" for the first time as a kid. That one's really impossible to figure out without prior instructions.
1
u/noturFaultitsmine 11h ago
Yes my first thought was an uppercase “G”… I understand the confusion now lol

In your defense, I was going to say "it's trying to say zen". Which, is kind of ironic, because it's something we step on and wipe our gross shoes all over. Normalize door mats that have our enemies and/or insecurities on them.

Do you not know how to write?
15
u/halfpighalfmanbear 14h ago
TBF, I think they stopped teaching cursive in American public schools like 20 years ago.
5
u/Flathead89 14h ago
I was learning it in the 2nd grade here in VA in 1996....then we moved to NC halfway through the school year and my class there was still doing first grade stuff. NC never taught us cursive or required us to write in it.
1
u/mindlessfreak30 14h ago
I'm the opposite. I switched schools, same state different districts, only like 15mins apart and the new school held me back. They made me repeat the 2nd grade because I hadn't been taught cursive in the previous district yet... looking at it now kinda messed up considering cursive isn't utilized anymore.

u/Better-Lunch670 14h ago edited 14h ago
It was a real question. I see now that it sounded kinda rude. My bad.
Actually half of the US requires cursive to be taught in school.
2
u/halfpighalfmanbear 14h ago
Yeah, I did a quick search after I posted. Common Core excluded cursive writing when it rolled out in 2010, but over the last 10 years, many states have reintroduced it. My home state just made it a requirement again earlier this year.

Cursive z's were always stupid. Like, the end of the z is right there at the beginning of the e, WTF did we let some Victorian tell us it needed a more dramatic loop than a j or g.
It was probably some idiot at Oxford who thought zetas were rad or some bull$hit.

I try to feel zen when I realize cursive is now a foreign language.
7
u/nedeta 14h ago
Is it though? That N is fucking terrible. My grade school english teachers would be appauled.
1
1
u/ChirpChirpCricket 14h ago
The ‘z’ and ‘e’ aren’t even connected like they would be with an actual pen stroke either
1
u/Clojiroo 14h ago
I hate to break it to you, but handwriting is not supposed to look like the super loopy smooth letters that they teach you on a chalkboard when you’re six.
That is in fact what a lowercase N is supposed to look like. It’s not supposed to look like the letter M. And it reveals how we get from calligraphy/handwriting n to metal type n.

u/Impossible-Pool231 14h ago
I hate this. Drilled that shit into our heads in school that high school and college everything was going to have to be done in cursive. Then computers happened and now they are teaching math in the most luscious ways that that is becoming a foreign language 🥴

u/headermargin 14h ago
I like the idea of cursive, but everyone writes it so out of standard it bleeds together
5
u/jeffguy55 14h ago
It's exactly this, I can easily read standard cursive but some people's cursive is so sloppy I have to use context clues to work it out.
1
u/headermargin 14h ago
Exactly.
Thats an atrocious z for starters and its all too close together.
If I didn't know any better, id think it said Ben

"Zeh". It's supposed to be "Zen", but the designer does not understand how a cursive "Z", "e" or "n" work.

I know cursive...it looks like Jew at first glance.
1
u/Better-Lunch670 14h ago
No it doesn't.
0
u/Firm_Airport2816 14h ago
Sure it does... thats a sloppy n and and a lower case z... and not very well written
1
u/Better-Lunch670 12h ago
Looks absolutely nothing like a cursive j or w.
0
u/Firm_Airport2816 11h ago
No..it looks exactly like a printed J and W
1
u/Better-Lunch670 10h ago
Nobody prints a J like that. You're grasping at straws. Either you know cursive or you don't lol stop changing your excuse.

u/seenhear 14h ago
Ironic to misuse that word so.
0
u/Better-Lunch670 14h ago
I'm not sure that word means what you think it means.
0
u/seenhear 14h ago
Not being able to read cursive does not make one illiterate.
1
u/Better-Lunch670 12h ago
That's sort of the definition. The ability to read and write.
If all you can read is Times New Roman, then I consider you illiterate.

Well stop bombing innocent countries and children and maybe I will stop making jokes about them.

u/Better-Lunch670 14h ago
You suck at jokes if there was supposed to be a joke in here somewhere.
0
u/chungstone 13h ago
That wasn't a joke, it was the truth. Crazy what zionist are allowed to say and get away with. Condemned by multiple countries for their war crimes.
