I kinda like it. Alinea has a serious Sony bias. Using their own data against them is funny. But whatever... AA is really not a good source.

It's almost like putting your games on pc gets you more money ey sony? wink wink nudge nudge
19
u/UnusuallyShapedChair 19h ago
Sure, if they want their hardware sales to crash and burn like Xbox’s has.
8
u/pinpoint_aim 17h ago
Xbox putting their games on PC is one of the last reasons why their hardware sales is the way it is
1
5
u/Coke_Cola_Killa 18h ago
Monkey's paw kind of situation, I like the odd sony game but can justify getting a console for one or two games.
3
u/Pugilist12 18h ago
I’m no economist, but I’ve always understood console production to be extremely expensive. In the past sometimes they were loss leaders meant to sell the system to bring in software sales. But at $900, it seems unlikely that any single exclusive would cause significant new sales, while putting the game on steam is cheap and easy. Outside of Valves cut it would be pure profit for them.
3
u/newbrevity 17h ago
The world of PC gaming absolutely needs consoles out there. We need them to thrive. Because they are a lower priced point of entry for gamers to discover the hobby. PCs are all so much more focused on a single user as opposed to a console which is much more open to groups and sharing by design. Without consoles introducing people to gaming, I believe PC gaming would be lesser for it.
0
u/Necessary-Duty-7952 12h ago
Except if Sony or MS don't sell more hardware, they get less 3rd party royalties. That's where all the money is from. The amount of money Sony would make from PC sales pales in comparison to the boost they get from being the go-to console.

u/princepwned 17h ago
nintendo looking at sony like wtf are you guys doing you go to pc then leave meanwhile nintendo has always been exclusive.
1
u/VenserMTG 14h ago
Hardware us subsidized, they lose money on the hardware and make it back with psn subscription
-3
u/fingerpaintswithpoop 18h ago
PS5 sales have been falling, and it has nothing to do with PC ports.
9
u/SpyroManiac36 16h ago
PC sales are falling just as much as PS5, but nowhere near as bad as xbox sales
-4
u/princepwned 17h ago
sony live service push and its no disc no buy bs that has them like this
3
u/Redemption1452 15h ago
This is some copium. We can ignore all the effects AI has on all systems and pretend Sony dropping disc is the to blame. Also, why is Sony still out selling Xbox then?
-2
u/fingerpaintswithpoop 17h ago
7
u/iMatt42 16h ago
Price increase has to do with AI driving up the cost of components and is a universal problem for all the platform holders. It’s not a Sony-specific issue.
-5
u/fingerpaintswithpoop 16h ago
Who fucking cares? Prices go up, people can’t afford the console anymore, so they stop buying. That’s the driving factor here. Anybody saying it’s literally anything else is intentionally lying or delusional.
5
u/iMatt42 16h ago
The people that mentioned things before you were actually things Sony could fix and were problems specific to them.
0
u/fingerpaintswithpoop 16h ago
Even if Sony reversed course on killing physical media and cancelled all their live service games, pivoting to the single player games people know them for it still wouldn’t make a difference. Not one bit of difference at all. The simple fact is most people cannot justify buying a PS5 console at their current price when rent, gas, food and other necessities are also going up in price with no end in sight.
It’s the price of the console. It’s just too expensive. Stop pretending it’s anything else.
0
u/Alarming-Basil2894 14h ago
Isnt the ps5 all set to outsell the ps4?
3
0
u/fingerpaintswithpoop 14h ago
I don’t think so? And even if it is, who fucking cares? What does it matter? Who gives a damn about console sales when it is several hundred dollars MORE expensive 6 years after launch? I remember when these things would only get cheaper after a couple years!
0
u/johnnysilverhand718 16h ago
Thats not necessarily why that happened
2
u/WesternOk5765 16h ago
I mean yes it is. The fact Sony has exclusives is why their consoles sell.
Microsoft, if I want their exclusives (which are trash, so really let's be honest that's the bigger deal) I'd just get a PC.
So really, it's:
A. Microsoft has had shit titles this gen
B. The titles they do have come to PC
C. Actually a shit ton of those titles ended up on ps5 too
0
u/johnnysilverhand718 16h ago
It's not entirely due to PC, though, right? Their first party offerings have been a** for a long time, and its only recently that the "good" ones have even come to PC.
Phil Spencer got it right when Kinda Funny interviewed him. They lost the most important generation (PS4/XBOne) when people really started cementing their digital libraries and comitting to those digital ecosystems.
What first party game did MS publish between 2014 and 2020 that we could even compare to a Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, or TLOU Part 2?
None.
They didnt make any good games for a long time. So no, the problem is not publishing the jokes that they did make on PC
2
u/WesternOk5765 16h ago
I mean the Xbox One is their best console ever and it came the closest to properly executing on what they should have done for the last decade and could still do next generation.
Stop trying to sell people Xbox consoles. Sell them a living room PC, set top box, and console all in one.
Apple TV/firestick/roku, a PS5, and a Computer? Nope, here's the new Xbox it's all of them this is all you need. Yep, it's $1000+. It does everything you need. You need nothing else. Done.
1
u/BlackKnighting20 9h ago
It’s part of it, a console needs value, Nintendo understands that.
1
u/johnnysilverhand718 9h ago
But they didnt lose value by porting games to PC
Because they didnt have good games to begin with
1
u/BlackKnighting20 9h ago
They do have good games, get out of the circle jerk, that thing is bad for you.
1
u/johnnysilverhand718 8h ago
They didnt from 2014 until a couple years ago.
Thats a fact dude. Not a circle jerk
0
u/BlackKnighting20 8h ago edited 8h ago
LMAOL, not just circle jerking but deniers as well. Damn bro, get out of the circle jerk, you’re starting to believe their idiocy.
Xbox did release good games but people only want to talk about great games which Xbox lacked. Porting to PC was one of their biggest mistakes. Your console is struggling and instead of building a strong exclusive library they decided to kneecapped.

Yeah but they have to be live services so they can't be pirated. Sony doesn't have much in that space. HD2 made them a good amount though.
0
u/Coke_Cola_Killa 18h ago
I don't think them being on PS5 has stopped the whole pirating thang given the progress of the KytyPS5 emulator people will just be using that soon im if they wanted to play anything
HD2 is pretty good though. Just wish we'd have got Yotei really it only game I wanna play on the PS side of things
1
u/Downtown_Eye5736 18h ago
That's a new developing situation that hasn't affected anything yet. Sony's single player games simply did not make much money on PC, they are very popular on pirate sites but not so much on Steam.
1
u/Coke_Cola_Killa 18h ago
Overtime it'll start affecting it somewhat. Not a lot but it'll be there. Personally it's not for me. But there'll be those who use it.
Yeah that's true but they did wait a couple years before porting the game so at that point either people weren't interested or they already played it. It's a shame for those who just likes playing a variety of games.
1
u/Downtown_Eye5736 18h ago
I don't think time had much to do with it as Sony not putting any DRM in their games which resulted in them being available for free day 1. Stellarblade had the same gap between it's PS5 and PC release as Spider-Man 2 but since SB had DRM it did like 10 times better on Steam, meanwhile SM2 peaked at under 30K on Steam but had multiple torrents day 1 with hundreds of thousands simultaneous leechers.
4
u/VenserMTG 14h ago
Sony did sell on steam but their exclusives didn't sell well because they play the same
1
u/Coke_Cola_Killa 14h ago
I know all I've brought Sony wise for PC was Days Gone and Ghost of Tsushima. I just want Yotei on pc that's it no other Sony IP that interests me that much
1
u/FrootLoop23 9h ago
Sony still made money on them as they were inexpensive to port. Sony was afraid of losing PlayStation customers to PC, so they stopped putting their mega budget games on PC. Now they must rely on a console base that isn’t growing.
-4
u/Budget-Count-9360 14h ago
Not even close to the reason, wolverine sucked ass, the other exclusives were solid but niche
1
u/VenserMTG 14h ago
Ghost of Tsushima is now niche? The reality is all their exclusives are the same shit. Ghost if Tsushima is boring as fuck for a game that got 10/10 thrown around. God of war sold alright, then Ragnarok bombed because it's the same shit.
0
u/Budget-Count-9360 13h ago
Did you even read the article bro, it very clearly says exclusives made in 2026, Sony didn't port theirs to PC which already puts them at a sales disadvantage, you just wanted some dumb reason to rant on why you hate Sony's games lmaoo, go do that somewhere else lol
1
u/VenserMTG 13h ago edited 9h ago

Are you dumb? Sony stopped porting them because it wasn't worth it. What difference does it make if they did port them? Xbox exclusives sell on PC because they don't play the same. Forza alone probably sold more than any PS5 exclusive ever did on steam.
1
u/Budget-Count-9360 2h ago
How are you gonna make the argument that they play the same when the games presented are, wolverine, MLB, marvel tokon, Saros, marathon, like these games can't be any different and that's not even remotely the reason why lmao, firstly the main reason was Sony made unappealing games that pandered to small audiences and they also didn't port a few of these games leading to flops, it's such an easy data based conclusion but your brain has an absence of logic and is resorting to dumb conspiracies, don't reply to me you baiting weeb, go back to anime
1
u/VenserMTG 2h ago
The only exclusives in there are wolverine and Saros.
Wolverine plays like spiderman, which plays like an Arkham game
Saros plays just like returnal
1
u/Captobvious75 10h ago
Sony should just do their own store. Give it a PS5 big screen mode.
I buy on Steam and the Xbox PC app. A Sony one would be awesome.
1
u/method115 9h ago
Who the hell would do anything that Xbox is doing at this point? How much failure does one company need to show before you look at them and say "do the opposite of whatever they do.". They literally just fired their last CEO and have fired over like 5000+ people in just the Xbox division since the ABK acquisition. Their revenue and quarterly reports just keep going down and they've already predicted it will go down again in the next report.
Taking one cherry picked stat and say "told you so" is no way to run a business.
1
u/Zalvren 17h ago
Sony wants to have a console business though. Xbox has given up on this idea (or at least should), they're not exactly the reference you think they are there. They are the one strategy to not follow for a console maker.
1
u/Coke_Cola_Killa 17h ago
Let a man dream a little.
And I don't think Xbox should give up at all.
Competition is always good somi disagree with Microsoft stopping console dev and if Sony was the only one then what's stopping them from doing certain things. Sure Nintendo is around still but they are more handheld machines. At the end of the day competition is good for us as consumers.

Microsoft should absolutely give up on consoles.
That doesn't mean they shouldn't make a new Xbox. It just means the Xbox shouldn't be a console. It should run Windows 11 with a living room centric overlay/UI front and central from the time you boot it as an option. Configurable to be a desktop as well, see SteamOS/Bazzite as examples of this on Linux. See the Steam Machine and what modders are doing to the BC250 as potential hardware ideas.
Microsoft made the push with the Xbox One they wanted to be your living room set top box that played games and it was a mess. They weren't wrong though, they just executed poorly.
Execute correctly, it works. Windows 11 based PC, living room UI, option to be used as a PC when someone wants, sure go ahead and charge $1000+. It replaces your fire TV stick/Apple TV/whatever trash smart TV UI your TV has, can play games, can be a PC if you decide, it's a multifunctional device.
Now one problem is gamers prefer steam to Xbox Games. Yeah. True. So make Xbox Games suck less.

u/Iggy_Slayer 13h ago
We know the numbers. Sony's entire PC revenue this gen was $1.2b at the time they announced they were pulling back, and close to half of that number would go to helldivers 2 not to mention other live service games like destiny.
So out of $125b in gaming revenue this gen (again at the time they announced they were pulling back), their single player titles amounted to like $300-400m. Spread out among like 15 games or however many they released.
They decided it wasn't worth hurting their system's reputation for that tiny amount since ya'll kept saying "they have no games" due to porting games to PC.
-1
u/Tiffa_Adil 15h ago
No it doesn't one person buying a PS5 is worth a lot more to Sony than someone buying their games on Steam
When you buy a Sony game on Steam a percentage of that goes to Steam so Sony is making less money on every PS5 game sold on Steam compared to the PS5
Sony also takes a cut from every third party game sold on the PS5 and they want to sell their subscriptions. Making it so the PS5 has "less value" by putting their games on Steam means less people will buy the PS5 and less people will be in their ecosystem.
1
u/QuinSanguine 15h ago
That's true of people who buy a PlayStation. Sony aren't getting any money at all from most of us anymore because many of us don't buy consoles.
Money lost to them Xbox will take.
Like seriously people are ridiculous thinking everyonr buys a PS and buys games there. No, obviously they're buying them on Steam and Sony is missing out on revenue.

u/Fun_PC_Gamer 18h ago
Xbox is going from strength to strength.
Steam is just a wholesale store like Costco, they don't provide any value outside of selling other people's games.
1
u/-Star-Fox- 16h ago
What value does Xbox provide that Steam does not?
2
u/Vivid-Produce-9373 13h ago
for starters Xbox does still develop games whereas Steam is more like storefront now
1

u/Fun_PC_Gamer 16h ago
Steam doesn't make games.
So, I wouldn't support a random shop selling other people's stuff, when I can get a better experience from Xbox who still make games, and have a better eco system.
3
u/-Star-Fox- 13h ago
Ok, so you're a troll. Got it.
-2
u/Fun_PC_Gamer 13h ago
I don't see the point of using a 3rd party store. Nothing to do with trolling. I can go to the source and get a better experience.
2
u/fantasyBilly 15h ago
Valve is working on Deadlock and it's in alpha test. Although they said that it's close alpha but it's really easy to get access.
-2
u/Fun_PC_Gamer 14h ago
Not bothered about Steam, it's no different than a Costco. I'll pass and stick to Xbox PC app.

Forza was not even that good to sell that much. Just a DLC pretty much.
1
u/appledanishcrumbs 11h ago
Found the person who didn't actually play it...
-1
u/Drey101 11h ago
Its Forza 5 on a different map. Tell me something I don't know.
1
u/appledanishcrumbs 11h ago
That is just factually incorrect. Go hate-troll somewhere else.
0
u/Drey101 8h ago
Saying something is factually incorrect holds no value when you say nothing to back it up.
Same races, same progression, same wheelspins, same cheesy dialogue, same activities, even the same damn signs. Five years later, it's basically Horizon 5 in Japan. Adding a few features doesn't make it a fundamentally different game. It's a glorified DLC.
