Nutritional Yeast Disappearing?

• Upvotes

Has anybody else found that nutritional yeast seems to be disappearing from the shelves? I used to be able to find it easily in most supermarkets in the free from section and in health food shops, but recently have only been able to source it from random small businesses on Amazon!

Cuban sandwich chain with a few branches around London. Really good vegan options that are prepared at a separate station to the meat options.

I had the vegan Cuban. Really tasty and very messy to eat.

Help me find the mushroom jerky that changed my life

Hi guys, I am not vegan but my favourite jerky style snack ever (and I have eaten meat jerky and biltong far and wide) was a Chinese mushroom jerky snack around 2018-19 in Germany. It was dry and stringy deeply savoury a bit sweet and overall delicious/ it was Chinese and available in berlin (most likely). I dream of finding this in the UK and failing that what your favourite veggie/mushroom jerky style snacks are! Thank you!

Is anyone else sad to see Head of Steam's vegan options have slowly dwindled over time?

This may be very niche lol. I think Head of Steam is mainly in the north. I remember about 7 years ago discovering it and their menu was practically half vegan. They had chicken burgers, sliders, chicken nuggets, hoisin duck, chicken pizza, onion rings, ice cream sundae, churros, brownie, and much more

Now there's barely anything compared to what once was and the ratio of meat/vegan. Just 1 regular burger, falafel, a plain pizza, loaded fries & churros. Now obviously it's still great to have options but DAMN this was one of my favourite places to eat. It used to have so much variety and would even do a discount on all vegan food every Sunday (idk if they still do it?)

Just sucks! I mean it's just 1 of many places really that have caused dissapointment by removing vegan options. But this one in particular really sucks to me

Ice cream

Does anyone remember that ice cream from Tesco with a bear on the packaging? I can't recall the name and am starting to think it was all a dream. It was immense, I wish they'd bring it back along with that other birthday cake one.

Best vegan protein powder WITHOUT stevia?

I've been looking for a good-tasting vegan protein powder, but lots of the ones I see recommended contain stevia, which I'm personally sensitive to. :(

Does anybody have any recommendations for any tasty vegan protein powders without stevia?

Another supermarket birthday cake post

I read previous posts to find the best supermarkets to go to for cakes. I started at my local big Sainsburys. The only vegan cake is the Oggs confetti tray bake. Waitrose next, none at all. Tescos finally, only the Oggs slab same as Sainos.

There's a smallish Morrisons nearby, an Asda about half an hour away, a small Co-op, and Aldi and Lidl. Will I fare any better trying them? There's also another Tesco and Sains I could try in a different town, but it would be a trip in the opposite direction to where I'll be.

I'm near Lewes in East Sussex.

The "delights" of Malmaison in York - any recommendations for places really near?

I have the wonderful delight of a business trip next week staying in Malmaison in York.

Breakfast menu:

https://www.malmaison.com/media/xbtdicom/30253_mal_springsummer_breakfast_a5_lon_ox_yrk_web.pdf

Now correct me if I'm wrong here, but I've looked all through this - they're really asking for £24 for some fruit and a glass of juice? Can't see anything else on here.

Edit: ah maybe my £24 gets me porrige. Without half the ingredients. Yes, that'll be it.

This and the evening menu look absolutely horrific.

Is there anywhere super local I could go for breakfast and one evening meal? I'll just sack my team off because they'll want to eat at the hotel.

Never been to York before

Vegan wineries

I've done a bit of research online and couldn't find anything definitive, but does anyone know of any 100% vegan wineries/vineyards in the UK? I am aware that supermarkets stock lots of vegan wines but I would like to find a local vegan business that I can support. Thanks :)

Soy-free treat options for those with soy intolerance

Hi, wondering if anyone has some good junk-food recommendations for those of us with a soy intolerance?

I know Beyond Burgers are pea protein, and seitan is my go-to for daily protein bump (with a fair amount of legumes for completeness). But I'm thinking more for 'treats' - either other good mock meat stuff or ideally sweet treats - anything with either trace amounts or zero soy content.

Not being able to eat soy obviously isn't terminal, but occasionally it's quite annoying when you just want to grab something quick and dirty.

Just found out that Tony's dark chocolate is vegan

And it's very rich and chocolatey.

Lucky to buy some at a fair, half the price they sell for in the Co op. Gave some to my cousin to try who almost exclusively eats meat and egg white, and she actually liked it and was surprised when I told her it's vegan. 💖

Nut Not as you know it!?

I'm sorry, I genuinely hate this... just ' but nut as you know it' would work so much better?

Are they trying to say it's NOT not as you know it, ie similar? am I illiterate!?

I know this is a small gripe but I'm so annoyed

The response to the RSPCA Assured campaign on my local Nextdoor

The local paper asked "What do you think about the new campaign promoting higher-welfare food?" These are the only comments so far. I left the first comment, and the cut-off one at the bottom is also me saying "so true". It seems some people are finally seeing through the "humanewashing".

The Great Vegan Cull Continues (Venchi)… SO ANNOYED

So I thought I would treat myself to my favourite vegan ice cream at Venchi today, I was in the area of one and it’s pretty warm today.

I went in there to get my usual favourite flavour of Nougatine, which if anyone has tried it’s completely lush and taste exactly like Ferrero Rocher in an ice cream. I get there and I realise that it has now been renamed to Chocoviar Nougatine and it’s no longer marked as plant based. I ask a member of staff whether or not it’s still vegan and after doing some investigation it turns out it’s not.

I’m SO annoyed and I’m SO over it!! There is NO reason why they had to change the recipe, it was completely fine as it was and there was no reason why people who weren’t vegan could enjoy it and it gave us more options rather than the bog standard boring sorbet flavours which quite frankly I am tired of. When will it stop? I’m sooooo over it.

How did you end up vegan?

I grew up eating meat, but I never really liked the taste of it apart from chicken and beef. As time went on, I naturally started eating less meat and eventually became vegetarian, as it just felt right. It wasn’t difficult because I was eating pretty much the same as always, just without chicken and beef.

I was never much into dairy either, as it would flare up my eczema. After being vegetarian for three years, I started having oat milk in my drinks. One thing led to another, and now I’m vegan. I’ve been vegan for almost two years. How did you end up Vegan? Is your story similar to mine or was it a faster transition because of the animals? As I know that’s why most end up vegan
