TI: 4th Edition Hello there! I am new-ish — Best Storage, Protection, and Accessories in 2026?

Post image
42 Upvotes

I've officially gone down the TI4 rabbit hole thanks to u/Philbob9632. I've got the base game, Prophecy of Kings (PoK), and Thunder's Edge (TE). Discordant Stars (DS) 3rd print run is on the way.

I look at screens all day, and I am burnt out on OSR D&D at the moment. TI caught my eye while I was dissociating on the restroom floor, and the algorithm sent Cardboard Crash Course my way.

Yes, I am the person who drove into a dark holler of Kentucky for a sub-$100 sealed copy of the Base Game on Marketplace because it was a fantastic deal. Yes, I bought two copies of PoK, and yes, I have returned the extra.

I don't know why I was compelled to do this, but I need to scratch this itch. My partner almost questioned my recent obsession and is chalking it up to some kinda life crisis.

I've never actually played any TI, and if I don't really enjoy it, I will donate the setup to my local FLGS for a local event play. The itch will be scratched, and I will be happy that others can enjoy it.

I'm a buy-once, cry-once kind of person. I'd rather spend more upfront on quality accessories than replace cheap stuff later. Looking to protect and organize everything before my first game.

I've browsed Reddit, BGG, and Etsy, but wanted to hear what everyone recommends.

1. Card Sleeves & Component Protection

  • What sleeves do you recommend for all cards and faction sheets?
  • Any good options for protecting cardboard tokens and system tiles?

2. Storage & Inserts

  • Who makes the best-quality organizers?
  • I've found u/Panamaniac_3D on Etsy. Any other vendors worth considering?

3. Everything in the Original Box?

  • Can you fit the base game, PoK, TE, and DS into the original TI4 box?
  • Are there any inserts that do this without sacrificing protection or organization?
  • Is this even possible? Am I unreasonable for questioning this?

4. Faction Sheet Organizers

  • What is the current meta on vendors for faction sheet organizers or player dashboards? Looking for something durable, functional, color-coordinated, and clean. I have seen various STL files and vendors. I don't have a 3D printer or access to one.

5. Neoprene Playmat

  • Best quality mat for up to 8 players? Prefer a clean, easy-to-read design without too much visual clutter. I've got a large Warhammer-sized gaming table, so space isn't an issue.

6. Anything Else?

  • Any must-have accessories or game aids I'm overlooking?

I'm not looking for DIY hacks or budget solutions. Quality, durability, and functionality are my priorities.

Links, vendor recommendations, and pictures of your setups would be greatly appreciated!

Looking forward to my first game: 14 points and 8 players, where I'll be commanding The Firmament in pink. /s

TI: 4th Edition POK systems added on BGA

Developer here. To celebrate the BGA release of TI4, and the long-awaited Prophecy of Kings physical reprint, some new options have been added. I wanted to highlight these in case anyone does friendly mode milty draft map or otherwise wants more map options.

Premade Map E is a generally balanced map option that is mostly made up of POK systems. This is for players who wanted to see a lot of the new systems and fight over the legendary planets.

Players Build Map + POK Systems uses the normal map building phase, but mixes POK systems into the possible draw pool.

Table Host Custom Setup now supports importing maps with POK systems.

As always, thanks to Fantasy Flight Games for approving the options. To answer the question ahead of time, there's no announcement about the full expansion at this time.

Homebrew Lost Legacies Faction Showcase: Part 4

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Read More on the wiki)

We're on part 4 of the homebrew and starting to get into some of the more weirdo ideas. For the most part if I tried to reused a mechanic I felt was underexplored like capturing or galvanizing, I tried my best to ensure it was done in a way that was novel or helped showcase what it could do. I really wanted to explore situations where components might interact in a way that was different than their intended purpose.

TI: 4th Edition Custom command tokens

Hello!

I made a custom set of command tokens and wanted to get opinion which do you guys/girls think is the best one (and worst)? For me it hast to be black.. I know that we got colored command tokens from TE but I like the feel of plastic instead of cardboard and they look more vivid in the system (because of the white color)

Homebrew Support for the Throne - Bonus Secret Objective/Slot

I was thinking about support and a variant that might be fun to play with without changing the "weightiness" of the original component. I've thought about writing it as part of a galactic event.

Has anyone ever experimented with having support give you an additional secret objective slot? It seems like a way to give someone a "potential point" without immediately changing the game state.

My thoughts were:

-- The secret objective slot is as temporary as the original SftT point, so it can be lost (i.e. if you lose support you must discard a secret, even if you've scored all 4 and it is a scored one)

-- It's slightly worse than obsidian (relic) since it can be lost

-- The incentive is to trade it early rather than later in the game since you still need to draw a secret objective to fill the extra slot (though it could be buffed to include a free draw when received)

-- Narratively, it could be fun because the other faction is offering you support if you "complete their secret agenda to gain their support"

I'd love to hear if anyone else has tried it this way and have some opinions on it. I tend to play with groups who don't abuse the card as much as it could be so I'm not soured on the card and love it when it's traded for favors or other high risk/reward scenarios.

TI4: Prophecy of Kings Managed to get PoK off of the Walmart app

I don’t know who needs to hear this but I have been struggling to find PoK that didn’t cost an arm and a leg. Month ago I saw Walmart was selling it on their app tried to buy it and the order got cancelled. Last week I figured why the hell not and tried ordering it again. Well just a few minutes ago it showed up at my door. The total price with shipping was around 140 USD

Maybe I just got insanely lucky or maybe it got reprinted and I just didn’t know that but if you’ve been wanting the expansion give it a try no promises though

General Discussion Curating Milty draft

I have some questions for the fellow Milty drafters. Having organized a few real life sessions with a preceding Milty draft, I was wondering if anyone else ever 'curates' the draft a bit, or if everyone mostly just sticks with the default options and whatever it first generates.

So my first question: how does your group handle slice generation? I tend to be picky about the slices it generates, mostly because we only play two or three times a year. I feel like the game is more fun when the equidistants are interesting and all the slices are at least worth considering (no supernovas on the way to MR, and not low in both resources and influence). So I keep regenerating seven slices until I'm happy with the result, and this has been fine so far. I haven't tried messing with the generations options yet, like minimum or maximum inf/res per slice.

And my second question: how does your group pick the factions that are in play? I have so far excluded Nekro and Mahact (because there are still some relatively inexperienced players) and Winnu (anti-fun), but let the tool pick nine randomly from the rest. However, I'm considering to lower the number to seven factions, to make the choice a bit more relevant. It tends to be the last choice people make now, but maybe that's because we don't know much about faction balance yet. Additionally, I thought it might be fun to put seven factions in the pot that we haven't played with yet, but I'm afraid to put too much personal bias into the selection (what I want to play, instead of what might be fun for the group). Any thoughts?

General Discussion Meta of only playing a few times a year

Post image
106 Upvotes

My group play TI about 3 times a year. Some of the players even less, as we switch it up a bit.

I have read what some people write about their meta here on reddit, and I regularly listen to SCPT, so I hear a bit about how high level games are played. And I must say, being a semi-noob group such as us is absolutely awesome!

Our meta is wild. We use all units, and use all techs. None of us care about meta and the absolute optimal tech paths. We have no boatfloat or x-1. No «only blue tech + X89» meta.
None of us whine when we get attacked, we just go at it and blow ships up. We just pick whatever faction we wanna play, without caring about what factions are «best».

We all focus on trying to win, so the player in the lead always gets hit hardest. Our games usually last until R6. No R5 action phase win or R4 status, like SCPT mentions.

There is almost a blessing in only getting to play every now and then, cause our games are just madness and super fun!

General Discussion Are we too soft?

Hey guys, so I was playing a game a few months ago and something happened between two players.

So player 1 one was trying to score an objective so they moved to a certain spot to do so.

Player 2 then moved to that spot as well to try and score a secret and public objective.

Player 1 got upset at player 2 because they were telling player 2 that they should have been diplomatic about their movement instead of just moving into the same spot as player 1 and destroying his units.

Player 2 argued that he is also trying to score an objective and that he doesn't feel like he needs to announce every move he does prior to doing it.

Player 1 got upset and decided to stop playing the game. Game ended right there in round 2.

Is most of the community like this? I was neither player 1 or 2 but I saw it happen and was pretty bummed out we didn't get to finish the game. I feel like player 2 didn't do anything wrong in my opinion. No rules were broken and it wasn't a movement in spite of anything prior. It looked strictly objective based to me at least.

What do you guys think?

Also, why is kingmaking in this game so prevalent you think? Is it cuzz the game is long and people just give up when they have no hope? I personally think its annoying. I usually try my best to win still or turn a losing situation into the best situation I can even knowing I probably won't win. I feel like at the very least, its good practice when you're in tough situations.

Cheers!

TI4: Prophecy of Kings Scalpers

Thumbnail ebay.io

This sub has been the best resource I've found for TI (even better than boardgamegeek). Unfortunately, not everyone knows the reprint is hitting shelves.

We should all try to help out our friends in the gaming community by letting them know the reprint is back in stock or is hitting local areas soon.

Already you can see people are trying to scalp the reprint (the back of the box clearly shows the 08/2026 manufacture)

Don't support scalpers!

TI: 4th Edition Looking for faction stickers

Thought we’d come here and see if anyone has created stickers for all the factions including TE and POK?

I’m looking to label some of our storage boxes for all the strategy tokens and cannot find stickers of any kind. I’ll pay if someone can make these!

Homebrew Lost Legacies Faction Showcase: Part 3

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3 of my faction showcase feels like a good time to talk about power levels. One of the more common pieces of feedback I receive is that, because these factions have such concentrated themes and mechanics, they seem considerably stronger than the “average” faction.

My goal was for all LL factions to sit above the middle of the pack, but I’ve done my best to keep them below the strongest factions in the game. Development started before TE, so I had no way of knowing just how strong DWS and CR would be 🤣.

One consequence of the “Franken First” design process is that I want every faction component to be a worthwhile pickup or have a clear use. At the same time, I wanted to avoid locking factions into a single way to play.

Few things frustrate me more than an almost useless faction technology with a pickup rate close to zero, or an alliance or promissory note that nobody is interested in using. I want each faction to have a clear identity while still offering meaningful choices and room for different playstyles.

Hopefully this gives some relative insight into the design process.

TI4: Prophecy of Kings Looks like POK stock in Canada might not be avaliable until mid December

I was hoping it would only take a few weeks after the asmodee USA restock to reach here, but it looks like it might be longer than that :/ quite a big gap for some reason.

Sucks too as I have a game planned in November and was hoping to play with POK, oh well. Just need a little more patience I guess.

Shout-out to u/Panamaniac_3D for saving me $300. I had been considering picking up a resold copy from eBay for a hefty markup, but after asking about a reprint here and seeing their response I waited. Lo and behold, about a month later I get a notification about the reprint and It's ordered not 5 minutes later. One more week and it arrives. Now I just have to get a game (🫩)

General Discussion Is Winnu Fun?

I have never played as or against Winnu. From what I understand, however, it seems that Winnu's presence in a game means that the other players will have to play around them to an extent, such as keeping them off of Mechatol or perhaps blocking public objectives, lest the Winnu player run away with the game. Tell me if I'm wrong, of course.

It seems to me that they're very all or nothing; they either do very well and score very quickly if nobody plays around them by denying them Mechatol or they are completely inhibited. If that's true, is it really ever fun to play as Winnu? Or are they not so warping and deserving of the table's heat as I've been led to believe?

A follow up to my previous post here are factions 4-6 of my Lost Legacies Homebrew?so=search).

I wanted to put a lot of care and focus into designing starting fleets/techs and homes in a way that helped showcase combos within the factions to show off what they are good at, so you might see a few quirkier fleets or starting setups among the project.

I'll keep these up piecemeal to ensure they're easy to digest but feel free to check out the wiki?so=search) if you're bored

General Discussion What do you do in the final round when you're out of the game?

I was in this situation this weekend. Going into the final round I had no way of winning. It seemed like a little bit of a conundrum because there were ways I could pick up a secret objective point by taking a few more turns after securing my public objective, which I did. But it felt like I was just extending the game unnecessarily for everybody else. In retrospect I wonder if I should have passed at some point and let the contenders duke it out. What do you guys do in that situation? Do you try to eek put every possible point you can get, or do you throw in the towel to help the game end a bit faster?

General Discussion Discussion on Game style options for three players on taken home system

Hello,

Me and my good close friends play once a month, with pok c1-4 and now TE. We have found that our playstyles have some attrition and would love to have more input from outside:

We were discussing how a player should react to their home system being taken from other players.

The issue arises when a player which has their home system taken, stops playing to win and attacks to retaliate/punish/damage the player that attacked.

The two point of views we have:

  1. A player should always prioritize winning, so in case someone takes your home system, you should maximise victory points even if the chances of winning are now small to not cause a punishing effect on the player that managed to take their home system, as this would result in the third player almost automatically winning.
  2. A player that gets his home system taken and is now behind or can not score points, is allowed to attack the player that took his home system to retaliate for the war act. This attack is clearly not focused toward winning the game but more on taking action against the player that took their home system

Now the arguments

In (1), the argument is that if we do this, the game remains playable for the other two, and incentivates protecting your home system more, to avoid such actions. Additionally, the idea is that this is an actio that is aimed at weakening or stopping a player. The issue is that the player that does not retaliate is probably going to play the next hours without a real hope of winning.

In (2), the argument is that as a war/political game, attacks on the home system are war declarations and the attacked part would rather die than seeing the attacker crowned as the galactic emperor. Also as, if an opposing faction takes you out, you would take revenge against it. The issue is that if this happens, most of the times the third player will have a huge advantage as two players just lost a lot of point or plastic.

We would like your input to ease our point of view to a compromise.

We all agree that it would make no sense to exterminate the attacker, and that the punishment, if allowed, should be more or less proportionate. We also all agree that if it gives points, or stops a player from winning, it is more than fair game. The issues comes when one says, I can do it to hinder that player, because it's easy and not well protected, should the attacked player do (1) or (2)?

There is not a correct answer and the goal is to find a solution where everyone can have fun.

Edit: Apparently there is no clear course of action that everyone agrees upon. All agree that you should defend your home system and that having it attacked it is a missplay. As for the reaction, many say 1 and many say 2.
