Discussion Teachers, librarians, and others who work with kids ages 7 to 12: 30-min chat about how kids come up with stories ($30 Target gift card)

Hi all! I’m hoping to learn from people who work with kids ages 7 to 12: classroom teachers, librarians, after-school and camp staff, tutors, and workshop leaders.

I’m researching how kids come up with ideas, tell stories, and make things, and what helps when they get stuck. You don’t need to run anything special. Your everyday experience with kids is exactly what I’m hoping to hear about.

It’s a 30-minute video call. As a thank-you, I’ll send a $30 Target gift card after the call (US only).

Full transparency: I’m working on something in this space and want to learn from people who actually work with kids before building more.

If you’re interested, here’s the 2-minute sign-up form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSejSkCE9bpfadscGtyDwcmRtQ5sgOt9yiKcBXkSs1nLjeRpMA/viewform

Happy to answer questions in the comments.

Mods, if this isn’t allowed here, just let me know and I’ll take it down.

My honest ACE Academy Math review: what a regular class actually like

My child joined ACE Academy Math after taking the trial and placement assessment. He was placed in an honors program, so this review is about that track rather than every math course it offers.

The class was a live online lesson with a small group of students and lasted about 90 minutes. The teacher would introduce a topic, work through an example and then give students time to try problems themselves. Students were sometimes asked to explain how they reached an answer, so the class involved more than watching the teacher solve questions.

The most useful moments were when my child had the right answer but couldn't explain his reasoning clearly. The teacher would ask a follow up question or have him show an intermediate step. That made it easier to see whether he understood the idea. The group format also gave students a chance to hear different approaches to the same problem. The teacher would sometimes compare two solutions or ask the class to discuss why one method worked more efficiently than another. That added something beyond working through the questions alone. The placement process was helpful because the course level did not seem to depend only on school grade. The Honors material was challenging, but it generally followed a clear Algebra sequence rather than feeling like a collection of unrelated difficult questions.

Overall, the main value of the ACE Academy math class for us was the combination of a clear course structure, live teacher feedback, and the chance to hear how other students approached the same problem. It gave my child a more interactive way to work through challenging material than studying indepedently.

I'm a father of three, and I bring the same patience and compassion to my students that I bring to my kids (and my plants). I've dealt with burnout myself, so I keep sessions low-stress. We go at your pace.

For Hire [OFFER] Fall Tutoring (US & Canada)

I will try to keep this short and concise. If I look like a good fit feel free to reply here or DM me and we can talk about the finer details.

Experience: 9 Years as a tutor. Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering from Penn State.

Subjects Offered: I focus primarily in math and science but can handle any subject at the middle or high school level outside of foreign language. I can also help with Freshmen/Sophomore level math and science in University.

Rate: $35CAD/hr via e-Transfer or $25 USD via Zelle

Approach: I try to focus on the why's and how's of each topic covered. I have found that this is the most neglected area in most classes. The student knows theoretically what to do, but doesn't know why they are doing it so they can't apply it to outside situations or to adapt it to new problems. I value being asked questions and talking through the problems to focus on the problem areas.

I also have a testimonial post if you want to read reviews from past students. https://www.reddit.com/user/rjytutor/comments/1q3wy8n/testimonials/

For Hire Russian for adults. Structured courses, clear grammar & speaking practice. 17 years of teaching experience

Tired of studying Russian grammar only to forget it a week later? Or understanding the rules but struggling to use them when you speak?

I'm Irina, a professional Russian teacher with 17 years of experience. I offer individual, structured Russian courses for adults, from complete beginners to advanced learners.

My approach is simple: learning Russian shouldn't mean jumping between unrelated topics, memorizing endless grammar tables, or constantly starting from scratch.

What makes my lessons different?

A complete, structured course
You're not booking a series of random lessons. You'll follow a carefully organized program where grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listening, and reading develop together. Every new topic builds on what you've already learned.

Grammar you'll actually understand and use
Russian cases, verb aspects, verbs of motion, and other difficult topics don't have to remain a mystery. I explain how these structures work, often using comparisons with English, and help you apply them in practical situations rather than simply memorizing rules.

Regular revision instead of constant forgetting
Previously studied material doesn't disappear once we move to a new topic. We continuously revisit and reuse it through exercises, dialogues, and speaking practice, helping you turn passive knowledge into active language skills.

Your own organized learning space
Your learning doesn't end when the lesson does. You'll have a personal learning space with organized course materials, making it easy to review previous lessons and practise independently.

Depending on your course, materials may include interactive flashcards, quizzes, homework, PDFs, and audio or video resources.

Professional qualifications and individual attention
I have a degree from Tver State University and a professional qualification in Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language from the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute.

My courses follow a clear structure, but the pace, explanations, and amount of practice are adapted to your level, difficulties, and goals.

Who are my lessons for?

Complete beginners who want to build a solid foundation from the start.

Intermediate learners who know the rules but struggle to use Russian independently.

Advanced learners who want to improve accuracy, expand vocabulary, and develop more natural communication.

Students who prefer a systematic course over occasional conversation sessions or disconnected lessons.

The first introductory meeting is free. We can discuss your goals, current level, and how I would organize your learning. You can find my qualifications, student reviews, lesson rates, and booking information here: www.ruslangnest.com

If you're looking for more than occasional Russian practice and want a professional teacher, a clear learning plan, and consistent progress, I'd be happy to work with you.

Looking for a basic computer skills tutor for my ESL mom

As described, my mom struggles quite a bit with using a computer. She's majoring in something that requires significant computer use and she is constantly stressed out, spending hours completing assignments and still making mistakes like forgetting to save. I need someone who can hopefully have the patience to show her around excel, but also generally navigating her computer a bit better. Ideally someone who speaks Spanish.
