Some time ago I managed to get my hands on this SL7 for a reasonable price. I thought it would be a good idea to do some maintenance on it. Last night I was surprised by this homemade pulley (amongst other surprises). I understand that on many SL7s the pulley tends to come loose. I would like to replace this custom-made one with a better one. Do you have any tips on how I can get a better pulley without having to immediately go looking for yet another SL7?

vinyl record machine choose

I usually listen to Cantonese songs, John Denver, The Beatles, K-pop, and old Chinese songs. I built my own amplifier, and my current speakers are from Technics and Panasonic. I'm considering upgrading to Argon Audio or the JBL 4312M II in the near future.

Can you give me some suggestion ,SONY PS-LX310BT and Denon dp29f,which one is more equal to me?

Help Help! Coosing between Kenwood KD-500 vs Kenwood KD-550

I incredibly found someone local who is selling both a 500 and a 550, but each seem to have some issues and unknowns. The 550 definitely seems to show more wear of the 2 but with a better AudioTechnica installed with what looks like stock tonearm for the 550. The 500 looks to have less wear and is a little cleaner, but the installed tonearm is unknown to the seller and the cart setup is lower grade than the 500 with the ortofon. I know I can and will likely change stylus or shell, but lets assume I won't be changing the tonearm on the 500. Both are the same price. Which one are you pulling the trigger on, or is it a pass on both? Appreciate you all!

What cartridge for a Dual CS505-1

I'm refurbishing a Dual CS505-1 turntable and am looking for a suitable cartridge. I saw some posts that said the Ortofon OM10 or OM20 were recommended, but I've now been told by a local HiFi shop that they are no longer available. They suggested using an Ortofon OM5E with a OM20 stylus 20. Is this a suitable choice and how does performance compare with an OM10 or OM20?

I found my old record player from when I was a teenager. It still plays great after all these years but I've never once replaced the stylus. Wondering if anyone can give me some insight on what would be compatible and decent quality without breaking the bank?

Pic isn't of my machine I just took it from google images, but it's the same model.

Vinyl warp

Hi everyone!

I ordered this Getting Killed vinyl from Amazon and it came a bit warped as you can see in the video. Is it fine if the record plays normally without skips (it sounds a bit higher in frequency for some reason but I don't really know if it's beacuse of the wrap or not)? Should i return it? Would be glad for your opinion From your personal experiences with warped records. Thanks

Question Which one of these turntables would be best?

Looking through used market and I saw these turntables on sale.

- pioneer pl-512 (no cover), 30$

- pioneer pl-200, 120$

- technics q200, 100$

- Dual cs-505-1, 30$

- Yamaha p-350, 150$.

Which ones would you recommend? I'm really trying to frugal Max as I'm just getting into vinyl (and probably too broke to be pursuing this hobby but oh well too late). Should I be avoiding p mounts or anything?

Any other cheap turntables I should be on the lookout for? Solid amount of belt driven technics but I heard I should stick to direct drive technics.

I can do some DIY, but nothing too complicated. Definitely no soldering.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey all, I'm looking for help understanding what's going wrong with my turntable. When I start the turntable using the automatic mode or manually, the arm goes into position, drops, then picks back up and goes to the off position before starting any music.

Has anyone else encountered this? What can I do to remedy this?

Thanks in advance!

New to this and hoping to get some insight on my setup value. The goal was to get in with the bare minimum for a good listening experience and spend the money I saved on a collection.

Used Rega P1 (MDF Platter) w/ Ortofon 2M Red - $350

Vintage Technics SA-400 Receiver - $100

Vintage pair of Realistic Nova 10 - $15 ($60 after surround repair)

All in: $510

Good deal on MMF 2.3 or seek alternative?

Looking for a first turntable for a midrange system (sonus faber lumina ii bookshelves, Yamaha rn1000a amp) as a mostly streamer whose favorite punk and alternative music is increasingly not available through streaming platforms. Prioritizing something with upgrade potential. Manual is fine, no preference on belt vs direct drive. Can spend up to around 700 but if I can spend less that's great.

Local shop has an MMF 2.3 with ATVM95E cart for 300 USD. They repair / return machines so this one is working fine no issues. Was considering Pro Ject Evo debut 2 and the listenup mmf 2.3 deal as well as rega planar 2 open box deals. If this sounds and works well what would I lose out on with this? I would need to upgrade the platter but I believe this cartridge gives me a good upgrade path right?

Thanks!

Is this a good purchase?

I saw a Technics SL 1200 Mk5 at my local shop, no dust cover or cartridge for $400.

Im in the market for a new turntable (upgrading from a very low end turntable) so that I can have a better listening experience and not damage my higher end collection of vinyls Ive recently acquired.

Is $400CAD a solid price for this unit? The only issue the owner stated was pitch control is a little off and could use a service if I want to use the pitch, but im simply listening at 0. He also recommended the AT120XUSB, but im not certain on that one.

Any input is appreciated! Im highly motivated to pick up something nice for myself as this year has been a rough one.

Cheers everyone

BSR Turntables

I recently got into fixing up old 1970's Stereos with BSR turntables for a hobby. I have read that new vinly will mess up over time. Is this something I need to worry about? I have bought several new albums along with some old and I do not want to tear my new stuff up.

Help Help needed - hum/noise from AT-LP60-USB + Schitt Mani 2 + Yamaha RX-V4A

I've got a setup that consists of an Audio Technica LP60-USB turnable, into a Schitt Mani 2 preamp, and into a Yamaha RX-V4A home theater amp.

The amp is indeed overkill for the scenario, but it was our home theater amp for our last home. We moved and downsized to a soundbar, but I decided to keep the amp it and move it to my office for music.

I decided to add the Mani 2 to improve the sound quality a couple months back, and it's been a phenomenal addition. However, since adding that, once the amp is on for 10-15 minutes or so, it starts making a hum, like something is unplugged. It only happens on the phono setting, so it's not other inputs.

The hum goes away when the RCA plugs are unplugged from the Mani 2, but if I plug in something else (like my cassette player to it, for example), it comes back. That led me to think it has something to do with the Mani 2 and something that kicks in on it from input sensing.

I contacted Schitt and they thought it might be some sort of power issue. However, I found that if I move the record player (which sits on top of the amp), the buzzing eases up.

So it seems like there is input sensing on the Mani 2, but the power in the LP60 introduces hum into the amp, but only on that setting.

I really don't have another place to put the LP60 or the amp. I might just have to deal. Anyone have any suggestions on any other things I can do?

A few days ago I was at my mom's house and she told me she had alot of vinyl records in her basement so I went to check it out.

I was already listening to 30's music on Spotify so ofcourse I was searching for music like Glenn Miller etc. In her collection.

She doesn't use a record player anymore so I wanted to get one for myself and listen to her collection.

Since I already had studio monitors and an audio interface hooked on my pc , I figured I just needed a turntable and a preamp.

So i got a Erres 5677 ( which is basically a Philips AF-677) and a cheap pre amp (fosi audio box x2).

Which resulted in my current setup 😊.

Only thing I want to change in the future is to be able to listen to records without having turn on my pc and switching the 2 Jack's if I want to use my mic while gaming.

Question Second Hand Vintage, advice needed for a Beginner

Hello everyone,

I went through Vinyl and this Subs highlited posts and Links and could not find information on a specific turntable. Besides 2 or so posts of how they restored one.

I found at a secondhand store a "Hitachi HT-460 Automatic" turntable for 60 bucks. I plan on for some time to step into the Vinylgame but did not really focus on yet.

What should I be looking at to determine if a turntable is in good shape? Maybe also ask if I can turn it on an le naybe play a Vinyl?

I looked online and did not find anything. Is this a good deal?

Any brands in Vintage to look for a maximum amount you would spend?

I am located in Germany/Switzerland.

My tt beginnings (living room ambient tunes)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Lil music station for living room entertainment/studying/house chores. Issa vibe at night.

Tt: RT81

Speakers: R1380db

Handmade album stands so I can switch up the presentation. Excited to make them prettier later on.

All bulbs are smart and on routines for extra good vibes.

Inner and outer sleeves + cleaning/static kit.

All in ~$1k cad including shelves.

First ever spin: Volume Alpha, c418 - While sipping a tea and looking out the picture window on a fall morning. Immaculate.

Just moved in, it will look better once all the shelves are filled. Yes the speakers should be further apart, but meh, keeping them off the same table as the tt was my priority. I will slowly be stealing my dad's hundreds of records when we visit eachother.

Will likely never upgrade except for stylus replacements.
