Audio/Video Be kind to yourself when you're training! Fem voices come in all shapes and sizes.

I've seen a lot of discourse and even some arguments lately about who sounds fem and who doesn't. Women come in all shapes and sizes and have voices that range across an entire spectrum.

Quit being so hard on yourself and have fun with the journey!

It’s like this, Internal part of the voice. Something that binds the overarching words together? Almost like the backdrop of what i’m saying.

Any help would be huge :( really frustrated. Worried i’ll need surgery.

Question My pitch keeps slowly dropping as I talk

So I’ve been working with a vocal coach for a few months now and according to her, I have a pretty passable fem voice now. However, when we do extended conversation or I practice on my own for a while, I find that my average pitch slowly starts creeping back down to my baseline masc range and ruins the fem voice.

It’s too slow of a change to notice in the moment, and I’m not really sure why it happens. I don’t really have much strain or anything at the higher pitches, at least not any more than normal. My vocal coach says it’ll just fix itself with more practice but I’m worried it’ll never get better. I have no clue how to fix it or practice not doing it - you can’t fix something if you can’t even notice you’re doing it.

I’ve been researching surgeries to permanently raise pitch but the risks and recovery are super scary so I’d love to not have to do something that drastic.

Question Hard palate tension when practicing vocal weight

Hello,

i have been trying to practice control over my vocal weight and i've been liking my progress, but i've started noticing that there is this strange tension building in my hard palate, like it just feels tense, not painful or anything and nothing past it (not soft palate nor anywhere near my voice box/throat) and i'm just not sure what might be the issue, i saw it could be related to either jaw or tongue tension, so i've tried to stretch my tongue and relax my jaw and i'm fairly certain i am not slipping into falsetto either..

My reference point for weight has been the 'cooing at a baby' method from Trans Voice Lesson Youtube, and from there i glide towards softer whisper and towards louder buzzy voice.. i do think i have a conscious control over my soft palate, or something in that area and even when i try to focus on relaxing anything near where the tension is.. it doesn't completely help.

Did anyone encounter this or has any advice?

Thank you.

Criticism Wanted 35 Days Post-VFS — Looking for Feedback

Hello! I’m 35 days post-op from a modified Wendler glottoplasty, and I’m looking feedback on how I sound! My pitch has increased a lot, though I’m not able to gauge how well my voice passes. I trained for about a year prior to surgery but my voice was pretty buzzy and I wasn’t able to get to a place where I could sustain my pitch above about 160hz without losing volume and range. I tend to have flatter intonation when reading than talking as a heads up :).

Discussion I feel like I'm going to be practicing my voice every day for the rest of my life.

I kind of just accepted it. I am mtf and have trained my voice to be passing. A big goal of my transition was to get a female voice which I have mostly achieved. Of course it isn't perfect. My voice is a very important goal of my transition, as my voice dropping was one of the worst experiences of my life in regards to my dysphoria.

I am mostly happy with my voice right now. I have a lower pitched female voice. I have really improved on my vocal weight and I am straining less.

But I have become hyper aware of instances when my resonance drops back down and my weight becomes too heavy when I am out in public. When I wake up and practice, I often hear gaps in my resonance that I have to fix. I have been practicing every day for a year now. Because my voice is something that I use every single day, I don't feel confident when I don't have a practice session in.

Really sucks that one pubertal change sentenced me to a lifetime of playing vocal cleanup. In february I am having a consultation for a glottoplasty which I am still on the fence about because I have made huge improvements to my voice over the course of a year. Glottoplasties also dont address resonance. It would be nice to make vocal training at least a little easier. But I also like singing. sooo

Maybe one day I'll be able to use my voice without practicing. But I have too much trauma roped into what I used to sound like and want to stay as far away from that as possible.

Criticism Wanted What does my voice read as? I feel like I may be settling in way too low and/or breathy, but I feel like it sounds more natural. I used to be way too high and artificial sounding, so I’m not sure if I overcorrected.
