So sick of my formulaic sound... Kick, Mids, Acids, Reverse Cymbal, Snare, crash, etc.

Spent all day on the small details, and I am SO happy with this sound.... Anyone else forced a change in their sound?

Sometimes, a change is needed to develop...

I've noticed that many producers understand what a compressor does, but still struggle to know when they actually need one.

I've learned that compression isn't something you should automatically apply to every sound. It should always serve a purpose.

Here's how I personally use it:

• Basslines: To control dynamic differences between notes and keep the low-end more consistent.
• Drums: I often use parallel compression on percussion buses (keeping the kick separate) to add density and cohesion without sacrificing too much punch.
• Leads: Sometimes I compress after reverb and delay to bring out their tails and create a fuller, more atmospheric sound.
• Vocals: To control volume peaks and keep the performance consistent without losing its natural dynamics.
• FX: Only when there's a specific reason, such as controlling excessive peaks.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is producers compressing everything just because they think they should.

How to Sidechain in REAPER

So i made this track because i was inspired by the trance classic from the late 90s. I think the intro is quite boring, and the hi-hats are too static sounding, but otherwise i like it. It's a finished track but i still would appreciate any feedback.

Recently made the switch to Linux and using Reaper to run VST, mainly Vital. I took a full year off any production. What are your opinions about this little sketch I've made so far. No builds, sweeps, advanced percussion etc. Just the 5-6 main synths, kick and hats. But all the melodies are completely original (though it does remind me of something). Does it sounds like trance to you and do the melodies interacting make sense? I tried a bouncy Platipus style bass from the 90s. But struggle to really make it deep enough. Any comments welcome

I’m reaching out with a request that’s deeply personal to me. I’ve been searching for the exact lyrics/mantra of the track “Yathasatyam” by Dark Whisper from Goa Gil’s Har Har Mahadev compilation album (released December 2019 on Alice-D Records) for several days now, and I haven’t been able to find them anywhere.
This isn’t just casual curiosity—this song has immense sentimental value in my life. It’s been there for me through some really significant moments, and I feel so connected to it spiritually and emotionally. Every time I listen, certain vocal chants and mantras move me deeply, but I can’t make out all the words clearly, and it’s been weighing on me not knowing the exact meaning and full lyrics of what I’m connecting with so profoundly.
I’ve tried:
• Every lyrics database (Genius, LyricFind, Shazam, etc.)
• Contacting various music platforms
• Searching psytrance forums and communities
• Looking through album credits on Discogs
But nothing has come up. I understand this is a relatively niche psytrance track, and lyrics aren’t always officially published for this genre, but I’m hoping someone in this community might have:
• Transcribed the lyrics themselves
• Heard Goa Gil or the artist mention the mantra in a set or interview
• Access to the album booklet or any official documentation
• Knowledge of which Sanskrit mantra(s) are used in the track
The title “Yathasatyam” is Sanskrit (यथासत्यम् - meaning “according to truth” or “in accordance with truth”), and from what I can make out, there are beautiful vocal chants throughout, but I need help understanding the complete mantra/lyrics.
If anyone can help me with even partial lyrics, point me to a resource, or know someone who might have this information, I would be eternally grateful. This song has been such a source of peace and strength for me, and knowing the exact words would mean the world.

Fun project I have been working on, just want some feedback/thoughts!

I think most producers know this feeling: you start a track, the initial idea feels great, but at some point you get stuck. You change the kick, add another layer, EQ everything again, change the melody… and eventually the project ends up abandoned.

After producing music for many years, I’ve realized that sometimes the problem isn’t a lack of technical knowledge. It’s the decisions we make during the production process.

For me, these are 7 of the most common reasons:

1. Poor sound selection
2. Not having a clear direction for the track
3. Missing background elements and atmosphere
4. Trying to force a melody that simply doesn’t fit
5. Overproducing and adding unnecessary layers
6. Overmixing sounds that were already good
7. Losing perspective after listening to the track too many times

The last one is particularly important for me. Sometimes closing the project and listening again the next day solves more problems than another two hours of EQing.
