in the wild A nice glass of Chardoneigh
Spotted this one in a "best prom dress" contest.
It's particularly bad considering that this girl comes from a town known for producing excellent Chardonnay.

Hello good morning folks!
We have a former member that has been private messaging folks. So far its just been mods that dont have them blocked. I am not sure why this person is so hellbent on harassing people in here. Anyway, if anyone receives an unwarranted private message from a member here please report them for harassment and block them. If you want to you can modmail us with whoever it is and if its the same person we are dealing with, definitely report and block. Person is totally unhinged and its been a year since they have been banned and muted. I shouldnt be surprised at them keeping it going after all this time. Person needs to get off the internet.

Its literally part of the rules. Posting the names of deceased children is an automatic ban.
Now we have a highly followed trial going on and the name of a woman is involved. Stop posting it. We have been inundated with posts on her name.
Thank you.

I'm assuming it's pronounced LeeAnne, but I want to say Lee-uh-han-uh

for context: a teacher in my hometown recently named her child Tripp Riggins, first and middle. Her cousin copied the name three months later, and this is the BD’s response to the teacher’s callout post.

This from an article in the Daily Mail...
Amari'anna's father, Juicesiyah Alexander Ezekiel, who also goes by Julius Windham, told Erie News Now: 'I wouldn’t even put this on my worst enemy.

Encountered this in the wild, took me a second to realize… Erika?!?! I was flabbergasted, I still feel uneasy.

Came across one today that I think fits here, in a spreadsheet of staff sent to me for licensing (hence I can't really screenshot!)
I've never met a 'Mersaydiz' before, and I'm not sure I ever want to.
Is that a tragedeigh? (Either the name, or me not wanting to meet them...)

Recently I've been meeting a lot of parents who have been spelling their kids' names with X'. The two I remember specifically are X'Ziana and X'alo. But there were others, just cant remember them!
X'Ziana was pronounced like "Sienna"
X'alo was pronounced like "Halo"

This poor child. I thought it was bad when she named her other son Pony, but this takes the cake

I've been working at a Starbucks for 2 years (for work expirience) And i've seen some terrible names, The worst being Tyeighler, Daxton, Mk'Kayleigh and, I kid you not. Skarptizol, What the fuck is a Skarptizol? Sounds like an over the counter drug.

I was chatting with a family friend this weekend about baby names. She’s a young mother expecting her first baby (boy) in a few months. I was politely nodding along as she went down her list of potential names. They varied from conventional to creative, but all of the sounded fine until she got to
“Malice”
I was a little stunned and stumbled a rebuttal, “…isn’t malice…a bad thing?”
She coyly admitted “yeah…”
I think the couple is settled on a more neutral, conventional name thankfully.

Just saw a tiktok with twin boys named “Rayn Amirri” and “Ryan Amarri”
Not a tragedeigh but a tragedy for sure

My daughter's name is Liane, pronounced LeeAnn. Of course this was back in the 1980's when I chose it. I love the was it looked. I don't remember us being in that "tragedigh" phase, as young mothers naming our children, but maybe I missed it. My other kids have biblical names, spelled conventionally. Since she is 40+ it's not going to make any difference, but I've seen this subreddit and wondered if I fell in this trap.

(Yes, I’m so sorry I transposed the letters in the title, it’s Caoimhe, I’m just super jet lagged which always hits me like a truck and trying to power through it and failing, I misspelled my own name earlier…)
So, I just flew out to the US from Ireland to do last-minute wedding prep, and was sat across from a couple with an ADORABLE wean who told me very proudly (in a Boston accent) that they were Irish and wanted to give their daughter an Irish name.
Cool. That’s awesome. I’m a Saoirse (variant Seer-sha), although born and bred Irish (my nickname at home is “Sour Horsey” after the worst attempt I’ve ever heard that of course spread like freaking wildfire throughout Belfast🙄) and I love honouring your heritage. However… CHECK THE SPELLING!
In this case, it was not mispronounced. We have a popular radio presenter named Caoimhe (yes, I misspelled it myself in the title, I’m SO jet lagged and trying to force myself to just power through it) and they thought it was lovely. They did not look it up or ask someone and utterly massacred it (although credit to them, they remembered “Saoirse, like inertia” from SNL so they did try… but it made it worse in doing so.)
Queevia. That is what they named their child. It was embroidered on her T-shirt. Sweet Jesus. QUEEVIA. They were at least vaguely pronouncing Caoimhe right (the C sound doesn’t really exist in English, you make it by pressing your tongue against the roof of your mouth instead of in your throat, but there are essentially two variations: Kwee-va and Kee-va. The radio presenter had the first variant, so that’s the one they went with.)
At least the wean looked about two, it wasn’t too late to save the situation, so I said quietly “look, our language is a little weird and we make consonant sounds based on what vowels come first, and Caoimhe is one of the roughest names for a non-native speaker. Would you like to know how to actually spell it?”
Nope. They did not. Theirs was “unique” and already embroidered on everything the poor little girl owns, so Queevia it is. Not the gorgeous Irish Caoimhe.
I weep.
