Shogun II Question about Shogun 2 Complete Edition

• Upvotes

So I know this new version of Shogun 2 has recently come out, and that apparently it has replaced the old version in the sense that you can no longer buy old Shogun 2 only the Complete Edition. I already own the old Shogun 2 in Steam and have for a while, and moreover in the Steam store this new version doesn't show up. I haven't tried playing yet, but will my old Shogun 2 remain as the old version or will there be some update that changes it to the new one?

Warhammer III The Nagash and Vermintide Endgames...Kinda Suck Spoiler

• Upvotes

However, the Archaon end times is extremely enjoyable!

I would like to say I play on VH/VH, with a smattering of mods that I don't think really impact the vanilla experience. Let me break down my issues with both of these end game scenarios:

The Vermintide:
This end times scenario suffers from two different problems. Number one: the vermintide itself is easy to ignore. The armies that spawn are stupidly weak, and take far too long to replace themselves. The undercities also do not spread rapidly as the game implies - in fact, I couldn't really see them spreading at all. I effectively ignored them and only wiped them out when I remembered they were there and had nothing better to spend money on. I don't think I even saw them build anything in whatever settlements they did control. For an endgame crisis, this one was extremely easy.

However, that got flipped on its head in the final battle. I brought Neferata's army with an elite force - blood knights, zombie dragon, grave guard infantry with some handmaidens, crypt horrors and a mortis engine for back up. Obliterated by wave 4. Surprise nukes will do that to you. I tried this battle a handful of times before I gave up. I went to YouTube to find a guide, and the consensus seems to be: hero spam. Sorry, not a fun way to play for me! I hate SE doomstacks and that playstyle. I play with a Unit Caps mod so I don't have to face that kind of army, either. If I wanted a handful of models to hold back the horde, I'd go play the actual Vermintide game. This mission is the utter antithesis to what Total War is supposed to be about: leading ARMIES! NOT A HANDFUL OF HEROES!

Should SE doomstacks be a vaiable strategy for those who enjoy it? Yes. But we run into a problem where it's the only viable way to beat this battle. No regular army configuration would have a chance at winning this, whether that be dwarfs, Empire, elves or Chaos. The nukes by themselves render this playstyle untenable.

Is it a really thematic battle? Yes! Face all 13 council members one after the other. That's cool! But the execution ruins any enjoyability this end times offers.

Summary:
1. Make the vermintide itself more challenging.
2. Rework the final battle so there isn't only 1 viable way to win.

Nagash:
Nagash's endtimes scenario has one identical problem to the Vermintide and a different one. The first one is that his initial invasion is extremely strong! The game says he starts weak and gets stronger, but my experience is that he starts dialed at 11 and cranks up to 100. Now, I will say part of this may be my own fault: in the events leading up to the end game, I largely left Nagash and the Vampires alone. Vlad had conquered a good swathe of the Empire, so all of that land became Nagash's in the lead up to the end game. So when the endgame spawned, Nagash's hosts were already at power level 5. All of his armies were a brutal slog to try and cut through, and I ultimately failed to do so. When Chosen are losing to Grave Guard...yeah, it's a bad time. Crypt horrors with 53 melee attack, Grave Guard with MA and MD in the 60's, Skull crushers losing to Necropolis Knights (not even halberds!) you know it's bad. And even if I did win? TDRA would have the entire army back in tip-top shape immediately while I'm completely spent and in no condition to fight another battle. I had to use a command console and force-kill all of Nagash's armies, that's how bad it got.

And then...there's the final battle. And it suffers the same problem as the Vermintide, though arguably not to the same extent. You simply don't have the troops to fight through the entirety of the undead + Nagash and the mortarchs. Bel'akor was already losing to Mannfred before Neferata and Nagash came over. Again, this is an elite army with Bel'akor, Chosen and cav + monsters.

And then there's the endless streams of reinforcements coming in constantly. Not only is the starting army all but impossible to take down without cheese, now you have dozens of extra units spilling onto the field. It's not enjoyable. Again, if I wanted to cut through swathes of undead as a single dude, I'd go enjoy some Ash Evil Dead media. I want to lead armies, not squads.

Summary:
1. Fine-tune the initial end game so it isn't impossible to defeat a single army.
2. Make it so traditional army builds are viable for the final battle.

With both of these end game final battles, it's like somebody who only plays hero spam stacks created them. I understand the need for difficulty, but it's at a point where anything else grants you no chance of winning.

Maybe I'm just missing something, some mechanic or whatever, but both of the final battles just feel really overtuned. Am I crazy, or does it feel this way to anybody else?

Warhammer III AI knows where hidden units are

Post image
• Upvotes

The AI sent a unit of spearmen and chariots directly towards my hidden, stalking mournguls while the rest of our armies were facing off mid - is this because the AI cheats and knows exactly where all your units are, or is it intuitively deducing that I might have something hidden in exactly that spot?

Shogun II Going to get Shogun 2. Is it worth playing the new one or is a downgrade?

• Upvotes

Just the title. I haven't played either, I've read the controversy briefly but as someone who as never played any total war game, is it actually a downgrade? I won't be buying either copies, before I get flamed for that. Just 'borrowing' from internet friends.

Call it recency bias or whatever this shit is their magnum opus. A roster supporting every possible playstyle while fighthing whole world as the Main Villain is what I was seeking for this game since it's release and they nailed it.

And his final battle....That battle is nearly gonna blow up my pc, I have never seen that sheer of insanity in any of my Total War battles.

Warhammer III About Neferata's "Incite Rebellion" Manipulation

• Upvotes

I have 2 problems with it:

1st: The rebellion army doesn't build up over the end turn. It stays a measily 10~11 units and doesn't grow in strength.

2nd: You can't use it on your own settlements. This would be perfect to revive factions. Either to farm defeat traits, to vassalise them. Alas it doesn't work.

The only use now, is to get an extra fight in enemy, or allied territory.

Warhammer 40k Got this ready for the WH 40,000 Launch.

• Upvotes

We’re aware that Total War - Warhammer 40,000 has fallen short of both your expectations and our own standards. We’ve seen your feedback, comments, and reviews. We agree that the current experience is not where it needs to be.

Unfortunately we where not able to implement changes to address the issues identified in the Beta as we didn't want to invest the resources required. I hindsight the poor state of the game at launch was clearly forseeable, but corporate greed won the day.

As a result we are working with platform holders to remove the to enable refunds outside of the standard allowable period for the coming month while we investigate the issues. Existing owners will still be able to access and play the game.

We are working closely with our development team to identify the causes of these problems, deliver improvements, and ensure Total War - Warhammer 40,000 meets the quality standards players expect from Total War.

SEGA & Creative Assembly

Edit: God forbid someone take the piss of a corporations ability to consistently screw up.

Warhammer III As undead legions, I'm finding dwarfs to be quite annoying. How/what would you use to deal with armies like these? (No Nagash)

• Upvotes

As the title says, I'm finding dwarfs to be the most troublesome faction to deal with. A steady frontline backed by a heavy gunline with magic resist to boot, it kinda feels like dwarfs are a natural counter to undead. Nagash is also, unfortunately, off elsewhere.

So, how do you deal with armies like these? I haven't unlocked everything for gravecall yet, but a few things. Maybe a mass ethereal swarm or something...?

Any tips/tricks/ideas appreciated! This is my black pyramid, how far I've gotten (for gravecall reference):

Warhammer III Patches and Save Files

So given I have restarted my campaign twice already because of the changes done in the last few patches since I am playing nagash. If I load a previous save file post hot-fix theoretically it should fix in the save or will it continue to be broken?

Warhammer III Saytang the Watcher quest never appeared for me

Playing as Yuan Bo and doing well, but I noticed that the none of the quests related to Saytang the Watcher never appeared.

It might be because I started the campaign in patch 9.0.3 and as of writing this post it's patch 9.0.4. Either way, CA pls fix.

When I'm in battle and I use my units to charge after the enemy, after 1 minute they just give up?? The game literally tells you to use infantry to charge and when I do so I'm punished?

Warhammer III Can Nagash get the non Mortarch Legendary Lords?

If I use the recruit defeated legendary lord mod (or just wait for them to confederate naturally) is it possible to obtain non Mortarch lords such as Settra, Ghorst, or Noctilus?

If so I will probably wait on confederating Arkhan and Luthor Harkon until I can make sure the other legendary lords are in their faction.
