Show Spoiler lori isn’t at fault for her relationship with shane

Post image
309 Upvotes

i am ready to be bombarded with comments eating me alive for this, but i don’t care. i think this fandom is extremely critical of lori, in particular, and her relationship with shane. let me break it down for everyone and plead my case before everyone runs to disagree.

firstly, in the twd verse they do not have zombie media, unlike us, they had no idea what was going on. absolutely zero clue about reanimated corpses coming alive and eating people. in the midst of all this brand new chaotic news, explosions, fire, gunshots, evacuations, lori is alone. she is all alone with her young son carl because rick is in the hospital with a gun shot wound, while the literal world was collapsing.

shane walsh, rick’s best friend, who lori is familiar with, comes to their rescue, like a knight in shining armor. he comes to lori and carl’s aid and helps them get to safety. bravo shane. he eventually tells her rick is dead, which he had every right to assume with how the events at the hospital were on a downward spiral. and let’s be honest, rick surviving that is unrealistic as fuck. he’s lucky he’s the main character.

anyways, now shane, lori, and carl are all living with the atlanta survivors by the quarry. lori now grieving her husband in this new, broken world and carl grieving his father. shane quickly becomes a new father-like figure to carl, beginning to fill the void rick left in carl’s heart.

on the other hand, what three unhealthy coping mechanisms do grieving people turn to? immense loads of work, drugs/alcohol, and sex/new relationships. lori and shane both chose the last option. it’s assumed that they started their relationship roughly 2 months after rick’s presumed death at the hospital, which is extremely fast, but again, this is not under normal circumstances whatsoever.

the remaining survivors, including lori and shane, are now prey in the new world, danger lurking everywhere, food and supplies are scarce. they never knew when their last days were. their relationship was more so a trauma bonding moment, rather than a cold, calculating affair to disrespect rick. i also think lori saw how shane was quickly becoming a new father figure to carl and that played a huge part in their relationship developing. she was also able to find emotional comfort in shane, again with him coming to rescue her and carl he immediately wore the “i will protect lori and carl forever” badge with honor. it was only a matter of time before they began to date.

in conclusion, it’s unfair to say that lori “cheated” on rick. she didn’t. the moment rick came back, she ended it with shane. did she send mixed signals along the way? well yes, but she never tried to rekindle with shane when rick was back, lori stayed loyal to rick. i just think many people would be shocked how skewed their own values and morals
would also become in an apocalyptic setting.

Show Spoiler S2E4 Did anyone else catch that Shane actually explained exactly why he is the way he is post apocalypse?

Post image

“Turn off your switch. The switch. The one that makes you scared or angry, sympathetic, whatever. You don’t think, you just act. ‘Cause odds are somebody else is counting on you. That’s your partner. That’s your friend. There ain’t nothing easy about taking a man’s life no matter how little value it may have. But when you get it done, you have to forget it.”

It explains a lot of his impulsive decision making. Killing Otis, opening the barn, getting rid of Randall. Not so much his obsession with Lori, or his attempted assault on her. But I think here, he explained why it was so easy for him to do what everyone else would typically grapple with.

No Spoiler What happened to the Oil platforms at the outbreak beginning?

I think we all asked what happened to x place like Mexico, the UK, China, etc or what happened to certain places during or before the outbreak but one that I don't think many people asked is what happened to the OIl Platforms, after all, they are pretty much in the middle of the sea (like the ones in the North Sea in Europe)

All Spoilers Some of these scenarios are absurd.

Post image
• Upvotes

So I’m re-watching The Walking Dead and the first few seasons, especially the first three are amazing.

But when we start to get around season 4 or 5, and I’m still enjoying those seasons too, but that’s when my brain starts working overtime and starts going, why didn’t you just do this or do that?

For example, it has been said multiple times that Walker’s respond to sound. So in instances where the group is in a house that is NEARLY surrounded by a bunch of walkers, Why can’t one member of the group just get out the house through the window or something and make a bunch of noise to draw the walkers away from the house. I mean most times the walkers don’t know how many people are in the building.

Also, one thing about the show that used to kill my immersion is that one minute the members of the group are driving down the road, cracking Jokes and having a good time, and then somebody looks away for one second but when they look back up, the road is full of walkers that they somehow crash into. lol. I mean, how hard is it to spot creatures that walk up to you at the pace of someone’s Mary Jane smoking grandma?

Every time that happens I just roll my eyes at how absurd it is.

Anyway that’s it. I’m sure these points have already been discussed but damn they still bother me.

Show Spoiler What's your favourite scene from the show

Post image

For me it's the moment negan slams lucille on glenn's head twice and everyone is in shock

It was like everything up to now was for nothing

Its over now there's no going back

I was literally wondering "how are they gonna save him now" and the maggie I'll find you scene happened

That moment of dread fear and shock is unforgettable

I get goosebumps and faster heart beating everytime I watch scene again

Pure fear

Like if that happened to Glenn in negan's introduction how bad shit can get now

Also the cricket and natural sounds and no bgm for a bit made it feels so raw and real

I can't stop appreciating that scene It even showed brutality of the world

NO EXCEPTIONS

Show Spoiler its NOT misogynistic to hate the show version of Andrea (coming from a woman)

I have to say this here bcs im tired of seeing people get jumped for this on tiktok, BEFORE ANYTHING THOUGH im only on s4, and im not referring to people who hate Andrea for being a woman (those ppl r actual misogynists)

Yesterday I made a comment mentioning how I disliked Andrea for essentially choosing an man she barely knew over her friends and I swear, 10 ppl were jumping me for apparently being ‘misogynistic’ simply because I dont like Andreas character in the show, and that shes just an girl who was manipulated. 💀

In s1-2 I genuinely loved her character, although in s2 when it came to her almost letting Beth take her own life is when i started to really hate her, my breaking point was in s3 where she chooses an man she barely knows (which i understand she wanted stability which IS valid) over her long-term friend, even when confronted by everything, even with the reasoning of “i didint want anyone to get hurt” she wanted to be an savior rather than to hear all sides she still sticked by the governor’s side till later on. (Even after hershell says the Governor was an “sick man” she never questioned it until she saw the Governor wanted to hurt Michonne, but by that point it was too late)

I definitely get Andrea likers, everyone can have favorites!! Hell- ill defend Michonne because shes my favorite character in the whole show so far! I love characters with flaws and Andreas definitely complex, but I dont understand the double standard of calling ‘everyone’ misogynistic when they dislike Andrea for very valid reasons, im not even gonna bring up shane and andrea being together because that was like an actual nightmare

Show Spoiler Season 9 is good lol

Spent years hearing about “the show goes terrible when Glenn dies” and occasionally “the show goes terrible when Carl dies”. I’ve got friends who stopped watching when Glenn died but they insist “trust me bro, no one likes the show after that, I didn’t need to watch it, I just know it’s awful, Game Of Thrones levels of show decline”.

Well I finally got through the show and looking back and everything, season 9 was pretty good? It was certainly a big upgrade on 7 and 8. So why does everyone act like there’s nothing to like about the show post season 6? 10 and 11 weren’t amazing but again, certainly better than 7 and 8 and I didn’t find myself wanting to stick my head in a meat grinder due to boredom like with 7 and 8. I liked to see characters behaving like human beings again and not just grunting or having split personalities every other episode.

So happily surprised with the show in all honesty.

Show Spoiler A moment of compassion for Shane and Lori

I'm watching the season one finale, when they are at the CDC. The episode starts when Shane tried to get Rick out of the hospital.

Like everyone, Shane lived a traumatic event. He never thought he would have to take care of his best friend family. He really tried to get him out but there were soldier killing patient in the hallway!!! This is insane stuff to witness!

Him and Rick did everything together their whole life. I bet Shane became a police officer because of Rick's influence. He probably didn't know what to do with his life and he followed Rick at the academy. Rick is basically his whole life and family. I can understand that once he saved Lori and Carl, he felt like he had a purpose in life in the mist of the apocalypse. When Rick came back, he took that purpose away from him, so insanity took over.

I really don't think Shane and Lori were ever involved before. Shane saved them because they are his family and his connection to his best friend. Him and Lori trauma bonded over their shared love and experience. Lori was disconnected with reality. It's like the world ended because her husband got shot. She tried to keep a brave face for Carl, but she really had no hope for the future. She was reckless with her life. No way she wanted to get pregnant but still engaged in sexual intercourse because she wasn't thinking that far into the future. This is the type of stuff depressed people do. Many times she hinted not wanting to live.

All this to say, I don't see Lori as annoying as I used to (except for the car accident). And I don't see Shane only as the vilain he was at the end. They are a sum of their trauma and this is what I love about Walking Dead.

Show Spoiler My personal thoughts on the Characters so far (Season 7, Ep 4)

Watching the show for the first time and went in almost completely blind. Apart from the few key scenes that you can't get around knowing when you were online the time it aired (like the s7 ep1 scene).

I thought I'd talk about what I thought of the characters right now.

Negan - He's cringey af. Can't take the guy seriously. I wanna punch him in the face.

Rick - I really like Rick but he's lost a lot of my respect after the first episode. Not saying I'd act differently in his situation at all. But I want season 5 Rick back. He was peak.

Daryl - One of my favorites. Love him. I'm really worried about him but I know he has a spinoff so he's gonna be fine, I hope.

Rosita - She's amazing. Not much else to say but that I really really like her.

Abraham - He was also one of my favorites. I feel like the show doesn't have enough redheads in it (Saying that because I have red hair, lol). But he was amazing in almost every way.

Eugene - I'm starting to warm up to him. I'm holding out on further judgement.

Carol - Loved her in season 5 so much. I know she had ptsd and I hope she gets better, but I wish she was still like she was in season 5.

Morgan - I didn't care for him until the last few episodes of season 6. I'm warming up to him tho. He's cool.

Ezekiel - Just met him and I absolutely love him. I want more of this character. He's so cool. And he 100% has a crush on Carol, I feel like. Lol.

Glenn - I'll miss him. He wasn't one of my faves, so it's honestly not as sad losing him as it was sad losing Abraham for me. He was cool, there since the beginning, but his death was well made, so yeah.

Maggie - I don't care too much for her. I loved her in season 2. Season 3 was boring anyways and I liked her in season 4. After that I kinda lost track on her. I know she's pregnant (or was pregnant, idk)

Carl - He's alright. I liked him a lot in season 5 & 6. He didn't do much in this season yet.

Michonne - Love her. Nothing more to say than that.

Dwight - Hate that bastard. For obvious reasons.

Gabriel - I love Gabriel. He's great.

I think that's everyone I remember right now.
