Looking for a job Studying IT might have been the biggest fu**ing mistake i ever did in my life.

I am a developer with 3yrs of Frontend development experience. Currently i am working at a product based company but the product is no doing too well and layoffs due to AI is occurring very often and i am not super safe now. We used to be a team of 25 people now only 7 are left and it seems our time is coming to a end too. Was looking at the jobs for a Frontend developer and i realized that i am fucked. Aba bidesh nagayera kam gareko plus the company is remote and never bothered with tax so now 3 yrs ko work ko proof ni chaina 5 yrs plus gap bhaisakyo bachelors sakkeko. Once i am laid off i am fucked so pls anyone thinking to study IT don't.

Resource Sharing Plasma 6.8 adds Bikram Sambat (Nepali) calendar support to the Digital Clock. My first contribution to KDE's upstream.

Plasma 6.8 came out today, and one of the Localization items in the release notes is Bikram Sambat support in the Digital Clock.

Background: there was a feature request open since February 2025 (bug 500298). libicu doesn't support Bikram Sambat, so it couldn't just be wired into the existing calendar code. The calendar is also data-driven. Month lengths differ from year to year and there's no formula for them, so the implementation needs a lookup table. I already maintained a Bikram Sambat plasmoid, so I offered to bring it upstream. And it got merged it into kdeplasma as a new provider in the Alternate Calendar plugin.

Tech Repair Should I ask for a refund?

• Upvotes

I need some advice from people who have experience with laptop repairs in Nepal.

I own a Dell G15 5511. Recently, my laptop suddenly stopped turning on, and there was no charging indicator either. I took it to a repair shop, where they diagnosed an IC/power-related fault on the motherboard.

I paid NPR 6,500 for motherboard repair, hinge repair, and servicing. The laptop was repaired and returned to me, and everything seemed fine at first.

However, after using it for only around 1.5 days, I put it to sleep and heard a cracking/"kadakka" sound from the bottom of the laptop, near the vents. After that, it stopped turning on again, with no charging light or any response from the power button.

I immediately went back to the same shop and complained. The shop gave my laptop to another repairman, who kept it for around five days but couldn't repair it. Apparently, it was then handed over to another repairman, who is currently trying to diagnose and fix it.

Now, the current repairman says that the previous repairman's work has made it difficult even to identify the actual fault.

So now I'm stuck wondering what to do. I already paid NPR 6,500 for the initial repair, and the laptop failed again after barely 1.5 days. I also don't know exactly what the previous repairman did to the motherboard.

My questions are:

  1. If they cannot repair my motherboard, is it reasonable to ask for my NPR 6,500 back?

  2. Since the laptop failed so soon after the initial repair, should the shop be responsible for fixing it without additional charges?

  3. If the current repairman says the previous repairman's work has made the motherboard harder to diagnose, how should I handle this?

  4. Would you trust the shop to repair it again, or would you take the laptop somewhere else?

I just want a fair solution because NPR 6,500 is a significant amount of money for me as a student.

Looking for a job Applying abroad for IT work from Nepal.

Which countries are better for IT jobs from Nepal by directly applying?

My findings are:

  1. Australia: PR visa (costly and hard)
  2. US : H1b visa (costly and require company offer)
  3. Germany: Blue card (require company offer before applying)
  4. Japan: heard of some agencies like manpower offices

Discussion People who work at a law firm — what’s stopping your office from going fully digital/online?

Genuinely curious (not trying to sell anything, just trying to understand the pain points): if your firm still relies on paper files, physical case tracking, manual billing, etc. — what’s the actual blocker?

Is it:

  • Specific software/features that don’t exist for your workflow?
  • Compliance/regulatory stuff that requires physical records?
  • Just inertia / nobody wants to be the one to push for change?
  • Client-side (clients expect paper, in-person, etc.)?
  • Cost of switching?

If you have tried some kind of case management or practice management tool before, what made you stop using it or what did it not cover?

And if a tool like this did exist (or exists already and you use one) — what features would actually make you want to switch your whole operation onto it? Not just “nice to have” stuff, but the things that would make it a no-brainer.

Trying to understand this properly, would appreciate any real examples — even small annoying details, not just big obvious stuff.

Discussion Festival Allowance Ujuri

Has anyone tried filing a complaint for festival allowance and successfully gotten it without any issues?

I soooooo want to file a complaint but i am skeptical thinking if i might get in some trouble and also if its actually helpful. Also,

- I am on my notice period(laid off by the company)

- it ends before Dashain

- it also hasn't been a year of my joining

None of the other employees have gotten the bonus either. Salary pani time ma didaina ani bonus ko ta expectation nai xaina but am i eligible for the bonus and it is worth it to file a complaint?

Also, if yo month ko salary aauda bonus aayena vane what is the last date that i can file a complaint given that this is the last month of my employment in this company?

Government Services Anyone earning foreign software income faced Section 118 interest even though 5% TDS was deducted regularly?

I’m a Nepal-based software engineer working remotely as an independent contractor for a foreign company. I’m not operating a registered business. My payments come in foreign currency through a Nepali bank, and the bank deducts 5% tax on the income.

For FY 2082/83, the 5% tax was deducted regularly throughout the year and the total TDS fully covers the applicable tax liability.

However, while filing the return, the IRD system is automatically adding interest under Section 118.

My CA also thinks the charge is questionable but says it is generated automatically by the IRD system. I visited the IRD office as well and was basically told that if the system calculates it, they cannot change it.

The income is being filed under the special 5% foreign software/service income category, not as normal business income.

I’ll probably pay it for now because I don’t want to delay the filing and incur further charges, but I want to know whether others have faced the same issue.

Has anyone here with foreign software/IT/freelance income had Section 118 interest added even though 5% tax was deducted regularly and fully covered the annual tax liability?

If so, did you manage to get it corrected, or did you ultimately have to pay it?
